If you haven’t seen the first series of episodes then watch them on BBC catch-up. A brilliant script combined with outstanding actors/acting and set in the atmospheric and beautiful countryside around Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Halifax.
If you watched the original series of programs when they first appeared then watch them again they’re even better the second time around.

They were filming near my home and at my work earlier this year, got a few glimpses of Sarah Lancashire and the police station in the show is the empty gym at Dean Clough Mills in Halifax.

I haven't seen it but I just read the summary of the first series. Our heroine seems a typical drama creation loaded with issues - raped, divorced, suicide, living with a sister who is an alcoholic heroin addict.....

We binge watched the first 2 series over the weekend and then last night watched the 2 new episodes from series 3....... new series looks at least as good as the first 2.

Makes a welcome change from the usual professional couple, living in showcase house overlooking scenic view seen through wall to wall windows. Said couple having various affairs with each others best friends, office colleagues or casual acquaintances like some middle class version of The Jeremy Kyle show.

Couldn't agree more Mala. Knowing the 3rd Series was imminent I rewatched the first two series over Christmas/New Year and enjoyed them even more than first time round. That's why it it's called a drama! Would be extremely dull if all drama had to mirror real life with no artistic licence.

There’s something wrong with me, unlike 99% of the population I can’t suspend belief sufficiently to watch this kind of thing.
I know the acting is of a high standard, but life just isn’t that interesting and dramatic in reality.

I think it's pretty well done to be fair.

A good example of over dramatising recently was Stonehouse. Why would you need to dramatise this, the real story is surely drama enough. Yet Stonehouse is made into some comic book character that apparently is nothing like his real persona was.

Maybe there's a takeaway there for the BBC chaps who prioritise the content of their news programme. The level of dumbing down to cater for flag-wagging simpletons is pretty much out of control.

Apparently 1 million more for top notch acting in the gritty drama than for Hazza. I've seen Sarah Lancashire in other stuff fairly recently and to be honest she's been average. Best thing on the telly at the moment.Sarah Lancashire is brilliant and with all the other actors. I certainly hope that horrible teacher and wife beater gets his comeuppance.

I was only told about Happy Valley over Christmas. I'd never heard of it.
I've since watched the first two series, and will start the new series tonight.
It's brilliant, even better than Line Of Duty.

Best thing on tv at the moment the scenes where Sarah Lancashire called two of her colleagues in episode one tw@ts was acting at its finest,closely followed by the ending of episode 2 in the cafe,shout out to Siobhan Finneran who is a brilliant actress

I did exactly the same thing but I’m a bit behind. The Americans are going mad for her. She did one about Julia Child but I don't think she is keen on keep going over there and leaving her family.

Peter Salmon works or worked for BBC and was head of sport I think.
His brother played football locally back in the day and has had a physio practice for years - previous to this he was physio at Man City.

Sarah Lancashire in Happy Valley brings sarcasm to a new level ,especially in the 1st episode in series 3 where she knows who the deadly body is in the quarry ,and she’s got bite marks to prove it.
