There were a few games in the mid 80s where you could sit on the terracing and still have a good view, especially the Beehole End.

I just believe It’s the wrong time of year for these type of games. £12.00 is still a lot of money when families are having to go without. The cost of living crisis is really getting hold and this is just one of many (luxuries) that people are sacrificing.

You'd imagine that when we got our lowest ever gate against Colchester (?) you could sit any where in the ground (Including on the Longside) and still have no-one stood in front of you. There must have been no more than 400-500 supporters on the terraces that night.

Agreed, Beddie. It's performances and results though too, a lot of Rovers fans aren't happy. Unconvinced about the manager and back to back heavy losses in derbies.

Plus there is over 30,000 of them boycotting Ewood until the Venkys have gone. These strong willed supporters have vowed never to step foot in Ewood again while the Venkys are there.... unless they are playing us Utd or LIverpool in the cup or a win from promotion then they forget their morals. Forest at home was never going to make the plastics pay up.

There is definitely more than 400 people who have subsequently claimed to be on the terraces that night.

I took to standing (sitting ) at the back of the Beehole End a lot around then. Nobody within 20 yards.
Too many depressingly poor gates to dwell on.

I wasn’t on the terrace, I was in the Bob Lord stand… I think the gate was around 1,700. Proud I was there, but certainly did not feel much pride at the time. They were very worrying times, I hope no-one gets the chance to re-visit those experiences.

I was on the Colchester game and the one against Darlington in the Associate Members Cup in 85/6 when the gate was less than 1200 .. we always stood halfway up the Longside but level with edge of the Bee Hole penalty area … the biggest difference in those days was that you
could suddenly see through the full length of the Longside right along to the far boundary wall in the away end .. it was often sparse on there to say the least … and
bloody cold at this time of year

I might have been sat next to you...albeit about 30 seats away

The funny thing is it didn't seem as unreal as it does now. Being only a teenager I didn't know anything different. I remember looking across to a sparsely populated Longside..but it was sparsely populated most games. I remember the Hereford game very well..sat in the Cricket Field for that one.
Sat front row behind the goal for a good thumping win against Crewe (Phil Murphy?) and against Stockport early season..Trevor Matthewson sliding the ball into his own net in front of me in another home win. Beating champions Northampton too. There was the odd good performance that season before we fell apart.The crowds were poor but they were for football as a whole at that time.
Must have been torture for the older fans..but like I say I knew nothing better. I think starting supporting at the bottom leaves me appreciative of what we have now..but it also means it holds no fears for me.

Pre-Orient the atmosphere was dire but after that it got a lot better even though we had some pretty rough seasons in Division 4. Decent away following too.

It certainly shocked the town and the fans into backing the club again. Crowds picked up steadily...helped of course by going to Wembley the season after. The era of the Sensible Priced minibus had begun.

Before kick off, the Rovers P A will announce the crowd to the teams.

I was trying to cheer my Rovers supporting mate up before their game last week by telling him that, when they beat us 5-0 at their place, we went onto beat PNE at home 3-0 in the next game. Interestingly(or maybe not)the Orient game was 27 years after our league title win. It's 27 years since Blackburn won the Prem. Make of that what you will.
I don't remember our title win being banged on about like it was yesterday at the time. Unlike our equine loving friends down the road.
