Has this happened before… A Burnley player playing an international game at the same time as the Clarets have been playing a fixture?
AFCON?
An international way back when?
Both games kicking of at 3pm, GMT

I should imagine in the 60’s the likes of Mcilroy,& Elder would have played for NI whilst Burnley were playing at the same time.

Good call from Carwin above. Also Elder & Willie Irvine later as the Home Internationals were in season and Saturday back in the 60s

If Zaroury plays in the third place match will that be the highest level a Burnley player has played in a World Cup?

The thing is Morocco did everything but score. They had no one on the pitch who could produce an on-target shot with either foot and/or a cool head in front of goal. Guess who has shown all of those skills for their club?
If Tella returns to his parent club I think that Zaroury would be very effective in an out-and-out striking position.

I'm more shocked Ilias Chair didn't get a minute either. I wasn't expecting a last second call up in Zaroury to feature, great experience for him though.

Get the play-off on Iplayer straight after the main event.

It's always difficult to tell how good players really are when they are only performing well against Championship opposition on a weekly basis.

Yeah I agree, he will feature soon though, if he keeps developing he will be a starter but let’s not forget they’re a bloody good side

I hope Anass Zaroury gets the chance to get his first Morocco cap. Happy for him if he only comes on for a few minutes at the end. Absolutely thrilled if he gets more game time and the chance to make an impression on the game, an assist or even a goal. Whatever happens I hope he and Morocco finish the WC with 3rd place medal.
All of Burnley FC, squad, coaching staff, analytics team, all the support staff and the owners will be buzzing if one of the squad gets a medal at the WC.

He's already been capped for Morocco - against Georgia.

I missed that. I assume a pre-WC friendly?

Yeah the day after he joined the squad, he came on for the last 20mins
He may not have played any minutes there so far but from his instagram posts he’s been absolutely loving it and will have been a hell of an experience for him regardless.
You can tell how close everyone at the club is. One of the first things he did after their QF game was FaceTime Brownhill on the way down to the QPR

Hope AZ gets a chance to shine today although he'll likely have to come off the bench.
However just being part of Morocco's run during this World Cup can't have done him any harm for when he returns.

At least he will have missed this cold snap by the time gets back. He will have saved a fortune on his heating bill.

Ah what’s the point? Maybe they are taking 3rd place too seriously or have bonuses based on final position

Why wouldn’t they go all out to finish in third place?

How many other sports have a play-off to decide 3rd place once the finalists have been decided?

By not getting on in a pointless game, does it not mean Zaroury not get to keep his options open for a potential switch to Belgium (should he wish)… pretty sure that caps (used to) have to be in competitive games to be binding and that other players have switched after playing friendlies.

To the Q higher up.
On 8th October 1960 we won 4-1 at Deadwood whilst N. Ireland were losing 2-5 at Windsor Park to England.

Brilliant to see a Burnley player in the latter stages of the WC, let's hope he can impact the game.

Not sure. Don’t know why that’s relevant though. How many other sports require players to kick a ball into a net?

Sure the commentator said Anna’s was the 2nd Clarets player in this World Cup,after Woot, must have forgotten about Roberts.

Bloody typical that he finally makes his WC appearance when most of his club fans wouldn’t have been able to see it

I'm just glad he got some minutes in. We want him firing on all cylinders when he next pulls his claret shirt on.
