Police after Boro
Absolute discrace. Several police on horses running their horses into fans for no reason. No trouble whatsoever and absolutely no need. Saw a couple of people clattered by a horse and one police officer in particular shouting at fans calling them idiots without provocation.

Re: Police after Boro
Easy for me to say as I'm not there (so I'm not in any way justifying their actions) but there is trouble against Boro pretty much every time we play them

The Lancashire constabulary do have a habit of being over zealous at times.

It was kicking off in pockets all over, unfortunate if you’ve only seen the worse of it but it’s dark and intimidating knowing what’s going on for a police person and a horseArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 5:21 pmAbsolute discrace. Re: Police after Boro
I think to be fair, there was a reason for them to move into position quickly.
The boro fans had a coach parked across the cricket club exit and exit for the longside.
When I exited there was an argument going on where I had taken a boro fan had been attacked.
It was a stupid place to allow the coaches to park and I think the police came in to respond to this in response because they saw a pinch point and all the fans on the coaches giving it large and our fans giving it back equally.

It wasn’t for no reason. I saw it - some fans were being dicks so they did what they needed to. Just don’t be a knob, it’s not difficult.
Agreed about the parking of the coaches - why one was parked directly opposite the exit of the cricket field path is beyond me.

Re: Police after Boro
I'm sorry but from what I saw the police totally and utterly made the situation worse. The horses were a danger to everyone who happened to be walking by at the time. Their aggressive nature and the fact they knocked 2 or 3 people over who were doing nothing wrong escalated everything. It was dreadful policing and the most intimidated I've felt leaving the ground. I'm absolutely furious and will be letting the police know my side of the story.

Before the game alongside the cricket club I saw a mounted officer shouting abuse at Boro fans in the cricket club, not sure what instigated it, but I was surprised by the tone of language used - it appeared the mounted officer was trying to goad the fan in some way, and it wasn’t banter for sure
Re: Police after Boro
The police should have moved the coach before fans exited it was in a stupid place and certainly could have caused a major problem. The police didn’t seem to realise that boro always bring a large support to Burnley and an element of their support always looks for trouble. The horses stopped a more serious punch up developing but did barge into innocent bystanders.

As we were approaching the ground 4 mounted officers came charging over to the CFC entrance and one of them appeared to be being aggressive towards a steward stood at the gate

Walk like a sensible human being on the far side from the coaches and the Police would have no reason to get involved.

I was there when the Police got involved, too many Burnley 'fans' trying to get alongside the Coaches to wind people up.
I saw kids as young as probably 11 alongside some 'adults' who should know better.

I saw it happen. Boro fans getting between the coaches goading Burnley fans who like a red flag to bull respond. happened all the way along Belvedere road and the main flashpoint was at the junction. the police just need to keep the Boro fans on the coaches but they were goading the Burnley fans who reacted

Didn't see the aftermath , just saw a boro fan get knocked to the floor by a Burnley fan on corner of Belvedere rd....but the boro fans were really ' up for a scrap '.....like they usually are.
Re: Police after Boro
Back in n the 80s there were the Boro cut throat boys who always fancied a scrap. Bit like Burnley, tough town with a minority who like scrapping.

Re: Police after Boro
Absolute nonsense parking a bus across the exit from the Ground even the copper I spoke to couldn't see why
Re: Police after Boro
It wasn't just after Boro but before also ... we walked down around 2.35 past the Cricket Club where a couple (maybe 3 of 4) of BFC youths were giving a bit of stick to the Boro fans having a pint on the other side of the fence who were giving it back in Spades ... a couple of officers (who had NE accents were Boro police down here helping out) who were using selfie cam sticks, and singled one lad out ... nothing done said to the 30 Boro fans on the other side of the fence... not excusing our fans but the Plod were a tad heavy handed in that instance ... and I believe they were Boro Police by the accents of the two officers involved.
But as for after the game to have coaches blocking the gateway onto Belvedere road was ridiculous ... no wonder the passions were raised ... a Pinch point created by stupidity ... but it really did look like BFC fans were singled out whilst the Boro were allowed to goad the trouble ... hey ho it happens ... Our fans need to be the bigger in these situations and walk away not bite ...

Re: Police after Boro
Boro actually had a great following considering their current and recent trajectory. A massive group of (young) lads were ejected from the Bridge at lunchtime, so fair play to them for following and supporting their team. But tbf to Lancashire constabulary it was pretty powder keg on Belvedere Rd after the game and it's their responsibility to ensure it doesn't escalate beyond "handbags" which it showed every indication it easily could today.

It shouldn't cause trouble but even if it wouldn't it's daft that the police didn't get that coach moved the second it stopped there. There's always police hanging around there after the match.

It’s simple really. Just behave yourself on match days and let the police deal with the few idiots who can’t.
We criticise them when trouble gets out of hand and also when they appear to be heavy handed.

I once couldn't attend a home game years ago as I needed to work, after work I was walking through town back to my car just after 5pm with my Burnley scarf on and a policeman came up to me and started screaming in my face if I couldn't behave I would be arrested. It was kicking off around town apparently - just shows you can not even be involved whatsoever and get some jumped up prick cop being over the top.

I mean it's not as though we'd just won yet another game, still top of the league, playing great football, great atmosphere, the whole country saying we're a joy to watch. Absolutely nothing positive so, yes, absolutely essential to go looking for a barney.

For us travelling Clarets, one of the best things about parking up Tod Road is not only do you get away quickly but you avoid all this nonsense.
If I didn’t read about it on here I wouldn’t know there’d been any bother since about 1988.

After me and my son walked off the cricket field stand we found the entrance at the top of the walkway next to the cricket pitch almost blocked by a coach, after squeezing past the coach we started to walk down towards St Mary's church and then to Aldi carpark where my daughter picks us up, whilst walking past the coaches there was a few teens trying to mouth off towards the Burnley fans between the coaches but instead of policing them onto the coaches the police especially the ones on the horses started to physically push the Burnley fans down the street.
I was behind a lad in his 30's when the woman on the white horse blocked our path on the pavement and screamed like she was on helium keep moving, I shouted up to her how the **** do you expect us to move with a massive horse in my way, she couldn't control this horse and it was jumping all over and she almost come off the back.
The lad infront of me shouted up to her control that mutt of an horse unlike me he didn't swear, she then screamed at him don't you ******* speak to me like that, she then called over another female police officer on a horse and they both charged at him walking down the street, the both crushed him between the two horse's and squashed him into the wall next to the traffic lights.
He fell to the floor and three male police officers jumped on him, he wasn't resisting at all but whilst one held him down the other two repeatedly punched him in the face, I stepped forward and was grabbed by the fattest copper I've ever seen, I told him to take his hand off me and his replay was I'll do what I ******* want, I said this is out of order and these two shouldn't be punching him in the face, fat copper said he's punched a police horse (He didn't I was behind him all the time), my reply was even if he had you don't have a right to punch him back whilst held down, the replay from the two on the ground was from the first one we've not punch him we slapped him, the second one said whilst laughing no it was a closed fist punch not a slap get it right.

Sounds very much from the above some of the police were making up for the Rovers game which was pretty much a none event trouble wise.
Paying some fans back for needlessly making them work a Sunday and all leave being cancelled.
And for those saying " if you're innocent abd just walk home you don't get caught up in it" tell thst to a 13 year old who had got struck with a batton, or a disabled person pushed over and injured
You can't honestly believe in the heat of the moment the officers on horse back vet who they are charging at or swinging battons towards do you ... deary me

You need to get your wonderful tory MP involved if you want to see any action come from this. Sadly there is still a view held by the establishment of this country that football fans are largely uneducated low lifes and as such can be completely disregarded when it comes to normal conventions.

Re: Police after Boro
What a contrast to the excellent policing on the Blackburn game, where the police were friendly approachable and made what is traditionally a high tension game into a well policed event for both events.
Re: Police after Boro
I saw a middle aged lady lying on the floor at the corner of Belvedere and Brunshaw rds after the game a few people said she'd been knocked over by a police horse.
I agree the policing was over zealous, I was trying to cross the road to get to the 110 club and was blocked from doing so.

Re: Police after Boro
The use of police horses is symptomatic of the attitude, described by Corky, that is shown towards football fans. I don't trust horses and that comes from my experiences at football. I understand they are used as mobile barriers and provide an elevated view but there must be better and safer ways of achieving whatever objectives are satisfied by their use.
Feels like the police have lost a lot of the goodwill they generated in how they policed the derby. I would encourage anyone who saw any police misconduct to write to the IPCC. It's not in anyone's interests to have hot-headed thugs in uniform.
