We made some top snowmen that day on the pitch at The Shay.

Nice of the ref to give us two pens for clearing the pitch.

Would the current team beat that team on that pitch ? Would that team concede less then say 6 against our current team on our pitch ?

Remember standing on that terrace and my feet slowly sinking, can’t quite recall what the surface was made of :?:
Also wasn’t there a fanzine around at that time ? Think the headline on the front page after this game was “Mud, scuds & missles“ ?

I'm not sure poor old Whooshie Deakin would cope too well with Benson.

It was the time of the Gulf War and No Nay Never nicknamed Ron Futcher 'Scud' - old, slow and inaccurate. Funny the things I remember. I'm sure I've forgotten far more important stuff than that.

Was that the one where the snowballs were launched from up above where the buses were?

Rochdale for the Pies used to be the one I looked forward to.

I’d forgotten about the snowball game  But I remember the bloody ashes and mud of an away end banking though. Was like a second home, following Belle Vue to meetings against The Dukes a couple of times a season at that time too (in the stand). Seem happy days now, but in truth it was all pretty gloomy most of the time.

And a fair number of us were marched around the ground on the track to get us all together again.

Living through those days was great fun at times, being a big fish in a small pond. Perhaps being young, healthy, and relatively carefree clouds the memories somewhat 😁 . Not a patch though on the brilliant times we have had though these last ten plus years. Are younger Clarets missing something though that makes them take what we have now for granted ?

I think to experience where we have been is to appreciate more where we are now.
The Football is more enjoyable for me now but I do miss the times of going to games not needing a ticket and paying on the gate , stand where you like.
Could make a late decision to go to an a game Home or away and stand together with your mates.

Only talking with a couple friend's the other evening about how we'd look at the fixture list on Friday & decide what game to go to.
( if Burnley, Man City or Sunderland weren't possible :D )

I know the pitch is bad but good god football has moved on a lot since those days.

That is worse than what lads at north west county’s level would produce these days
