I’ve heard Stoke is quite barren for a good place to drink these days but any tips appreciated. Staying in the Hanley area so if anyone knows anywhere around there prior to making our way towards the ground?

Hanley takes me back to my uni days which is a while ago so memory is a bit hazy! There’s definitely a Spoons but the only other bars I remember would have have been the ones that opened at night.

Like any other city centre there should be plenty to choose from. It’s not the friendliest of places though.

Last time I went there was on the train and we all went in a big uni bar. The police cordoned it off and made it mandatory to get a coach into the ground from the bar and charged us for the privilege.

Same here, wasn't all bad though as I was still a student at the time so my NUS card got me some tins of Brooklyn for about a quid a pop

me and the lad were down there for 5.00pm,always drive into town and park up next to the Glebe pub, on a car park which cost 3.00.

Had good banter with the Stoke fans in there,then caught the buses outside,which are laid on every home game, for 3.00 return.

Back home for 11.15 prompt.

Last time we were there we went in the Gardeners Retreat, quite near the ground, not sure if it's still going was a long time ago. Good pub.
