There's a match where our manager Adrian Heath is interviewed during the game

Frightening that Jimmy Mullen was younger than I am now when he managed Burnley.

...And Clive Middlemas, walking off with Mark Winstanley, looked about 74, when I suspect he was early 40s

MoM performance from Steve Davis. Some great surging runs from the back that night. Beyer esq.

He was 50 in 1994, but always looked older.

Jimmy was only 39/40 when he took us over, but always seemed about 50 to me.

Was that the match Wayne Dowell was sent off? I think it was his debut.

Dowell was sent off againt Middlesbrough when Brian Robson was player-manager. I remember when Robson (already booked) committed another dodgy foul, the ref came up with book out but put it away again. When Dowell (already booked) committed another dodgy foul, less dodgy than Robson's, off he went.

I don't know if he was sent off in any other matches?

Jamie Hoyland was interviewed in the sponsors' lounge last week, and he said that just before that game he'd received a letter from Sheffield United (his boyhood club) telling him he was banned from the ground unless on official Burnley business. So he was very pleased to score the goal.

He hadn't done anything wrong except that Sheffield wanted him to sign a transfer request so that they didn't have to pay him the £16k or so player's cut of the transfer fee. He wouldn't sign it.

It's forgiven now and he is welcome back at Bramall Lane.

This was Burnley's first ever televised (live) game I saw.
Quite a big deal at the time, it was moved to Sunday afternoon for ITV and they made a commentary box on the bee hole end.

Thank you very much for Jamie Hoyland, thank you very much, thank you very very much.

Didn't John Gayle score one of his goals with his shoulder. Don't think he ever actually score with his head despite his size

Liam Robinson - one of his very few goals for us after his “big” £250k move to us from Bury.
He always looked overweight and I never understood why we signed him as he had an awful record at Bury too. I always thought this was a dodgy transfer and something never stacked up for me about why we paid that fee.

Jamie Hoyland was a good player. Really good bloke too. Played against him 3 or 4 years ago when he played for Burnley Veterans and he was still a good player !!

Dowell’s two yellows were for fouls on a future claret as well if I recall.

I THINK we signed Liam Robinson from Bristol City but he had previously been at Bury where he'd done well. He'd been a flop at City and they wanted shut and the story on here is usually that we went to City with a serious bid to buy someone else and they turned it down, but then fobbed us off with Robinson for silly money, at which point they all fell about laughing!

That’s right - I remember now.
I rang radio lancs on that football phone in they used to have and managed to get on to discuss it !! I’m sure his stats were something awful like 1 or 2 goals in the previous 30 games !

Now Wayne Allison would have been a top signing !!

I just remembered it as a Sunday game live on Granada, which the SheffU game was also. Cheers.

It was Burnley's first ever live league game broadcast and the first game broadcast live since 1967.

Couple of things of note:

We're attacking the Cricket Field 2nd half which has been discussed on here recently.

Secondly, Jimmy Mullen is in what is now the opposition dugout. When did that swap? As a kid I seem to recall Mark McGhee in front of me in what is now the home dugout, I'm guessing he was managing Reading at the time?

This is a match I'll never forget and it has little to do with football. I was scheduled to work at the Pfizer plant in Cork so I drove down the coast road, no Irish motorways then, so I might be able to pick up English radio stations and keep a check on the game. After going through the town of Gorey I was run off the road by an Irishman in drink as they say. My car a 72 day old Citroen Xantia rolled and ended up facing upwards and only held up by the numerous hydraulic pipes Citroens have which prevented the car from slipping 20 feet or so into a field. I couldn't open the doors because they slammed shut because of the position the car was in eventually rescue services arrived and I got out. In the group of onlookers and I must say kind helpers were a gentleman and his son who were good Samaritans in every way they helped me to retrieve my expensive equipment from the car they offered me a bed for the night but I had numerous phone calls to make so I stayed overnight in a hotel in Enniscorty the gentleman took my meters etc. to his home and his wife collected me from the hotel the following morning. An engineer came out from the company I was contracted to in England I completed the work and flew home 4 days later and fortunately the missus had taped the match and wasn't that the weekend of the first ever national lottery, like I said one I won't forget.

Tended to attack the Cricket Field end in the second half for most of the 90’s.

I think it may have been under Cotterill or Coyle that the dugouts were swapped over.
