He's a good defender and will improve Birmingham.

All the best to him. About time he flew the nest tbh.

He's been a loyal servant to Burnley over many years.

I wish him well

Their main CBs are injured I think, so he's basically cover and if he does well probably stay on but I also think Brum are in trouble financially?

Never let us down when called upon but wonder if he’ll regret not leaving sooner and playing more games in his career.

A player who could be called on when needed but always seemed to drop a clanger three or four games into his run in the side.

Personal highlight for me was the second goal against Leicester at home which realistically clinched the Euro spot over them.

The last surviving link with the Coyle era too!

Good luck to him, but if he was ever that good, we wouldn't have bought countless others from elsewhere to play instead of him.

Good luck to Kev Long. Don’t remember him ever letting us down. Been very loyal, but he’s been paid very well along the way so it was clearly of mutual benefit.
I don’t see a purge. The word doesn’t seem to fit right…. I associate it negatively and I don’t think it should be perceived like that.
I see a manager moving on older players, players who are limited to a particular style/type of play and thus have no future here. From what I’ve seen so far, it’s the right way to go.

Wonder if the permanent move (instead of a loan) would indicate a small fee? It can’t be for subsiding wages because we could just as easily have done that on a loan. Unless he gets another year (or more) if he plays in a certain number of games perhaps?

Edit - turns out Cork signed on loan very shortly after Coyle left.

More of an exodus than a purge. Why are Lowton and Long so desperate to leave? Has VK lost the dressing room?

Looking at it differently.
If he has his head screwed on and has saved financially.

Spent 10 plus years training to do a job and has rarely had to actually do it. But will be a multi millionaire.

Not many jobs you can do that and be so rich by 30.

Was happy to sit on the bench when nobody was going to get regular game time at center half when Tarky and Ben Mee were fit.
Might not have been the best but he certainly had an important role

He has made his own dressing room, one that doesn’t involve fringe 30s hangers on.

To be fair, we all ask the club do the business early. Be decisive and get it done.

Which they are doing, get people out you want out, even if we the fans like them.

Hopefully then room for incomings.

I'm glad he's finally leaving to get regular footy, rarely injured that I can recall, but purely due to Mee/Tarks being such a great CB pairing Kev Long was always going to struggle to break into our side particularly during our PL years.

Makes sense for Long and Lowton to leave now they aren't going to feature for Burnley under the new regime, plus it frees up places in our squad should the right players become available this window.

Probably fairly easy to be loyal when you’re on 20 to 30 grand a week.

To be fair to him, he did reasonably well, on the whole, the few times he was called upon.

Hopefully he gets to play plenty of games now, for the remainder of his career. The games he’s played to date, he’s probably got fifteen years left in him!

If either, or both, wish to continue their careers after this season then they are doing the right thing now, putting themselves in the shop-window (so to speak).

Certainly wasn't clear from what you wrote and it was more a jokey reminder that we had another "link" to the "Coyle era" still here, but if you want to get all offended and upset by my lighthearted remark then I suppose you are right in line with the modern trend, so we'll done 👏 👏
