Things you don't miss about "old" football

I'll start with the following...

1. The old rule of goalkeepers being able to pick up backpasses.

2. Crap stadia.

3. Managers being interviewed during the game.

4. The tackle from behind.

5. Racist or similar chanting.

There must be many many more.

Thoughts?

The old leather ball,it didn't half hurt your head on a cold muddy winter's day, sometimes leaving an imprint of the laces on your forehead. OUCH

Unfit professional footballers more bothered about their booze and fags than the fans they played for. Turning up stinking rough on a Saturday afternoon while laughing and joking with their teammates about how hungover they felt.

2. Crap stadia.

Thoughts?
That's interesting, as I would view some of the new concrete bowls we visit nowadays as being 'crap stadia'.

Apart from the racism and hooliganism I think the only thing I don’t miss is not being able to see Burnley’s goals on tv every week.

Hooliganism.
English teams being banned from Europe.
England failing to qualify for major tournaments.
Bananas being thrown at ethnic majority players.
Rattles bloody noisy objects.
2 legged cup ties especially if we've been gubbed in the 1st game as we often were.

TBH I didn't mind the back-pass until they altered from the goalkeepers' 4 steps and bounce rule. That old rule kept the game moving.

Liverpool being good.

That long walk via some allotments away at Watford before the game, and then being escorted by the police miles away from where your car was / the tube station.

Wales never qualifying for anything.

Ardiles and Maradona.

Plus a fair few of those things listed above. But on comparison, I think I'd go for the late 1970's / 1980's experience if you include a return to British rail and not getting ripped off, having to book trains, pre-order tickets to games taking away all the spontaneity.

I kinda liked crap stadia. Modern ones are a bit soulless. I didn’t mind goalies picking up back passes but it did seem to slow the game down. I don’t remember managers being interviewed during games because there was no live football to speak of (depending how far back you mean). The racist chanting I don’t miss but then we all did it because we didn’t know any better. Tackles from behind? Indifferent really.

I think I pretty much enjoyed most of the old times but:
The pitches looking like the Somme on a bad day.
Malcolm Macdonald.
Stamford Bridge (a mile from the nearest goals).
Never getting on the Longside against United.
Or City.
Or Liverpool.
But I did like the orange ball on a snowy pitch.

Houseboy, do you mean not getting in the Cricket Field End or having to move to The Longside or maybe I’m just a fair bit older than you. Anyway we usually got moved to where the CFS Burnley fans sit now. On The Longside it was more a case of being shoved down to the front or towards The Beehole.

Some on here saying they didn't mind the backpass being picked up by the keeper.
That change of rule revolutionised football. Now we need to stop keepers time wasting by holding on to the ball for ages, goal kicks and falling on the floor whilst holding the ball in the last 10 minutes or so after catching a simple shot or cross.

The backpass rule, 100%. And now we've got used to watching games on perfect surfaces, I'd probably struggle to enjoy a game on a rutted, cabbage field. Even 8th tier non-league has better pitches than the old First Division.

Uncovered away ends wouldn't be as much fun now I'm not 15 anymore.
