Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
Does anyone know if these three have found suitable jobs, or are they likely to be waiting for Sean Dyche to manage a new club and join him. Of the three I think Billy Mercer has a great track record, and would be a real asset for a new club

I believe they are in the running to replace Ken Bruce.

Of all the backroom staff we lost/fired, I was most disappointed to see Billy Mercer go.
And given where we were as a club that included Sean.

Steve Stone was an annoying co commentator on the Newcastle v Fulham match on Sunday on Radio 5 Live.

There was some quote at the time that made it sound like it was just a temporary job until he joined back up with Dyche.

Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
From someone close to the club, I heard a while back that Mercer had started succumbing to age and wasn’t as hands on in training. Knees and wrists going a little so he had other coaches doing the drills and was more observing. The Hung Juror wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 1:21 pmOf all the backroom staff we lost/fired, I was most disappointed to see Billy Mercer go.

Still gutted to see him go though as the effect he had on our keepers was unreal!! Imagine him teaching Muric regularly how to improve certain aspects of his game, we’d have possibly the best keeper in the world on our hands if Mercer’s track record is anything to go off.
Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
Again. Who cares
Good riddance

Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
Woan and Stone never appeared to be more than a pair of nodding dogs. If the rumours are true then they're as much to blame as Dyche for the atmosphere around the club turning so poor.
Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
Muric does seem to be improving, as does Peacock-Farrell

Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
Don’t Mercer and SD go back to his Chesterfield days ? Mercer was no doubt an excellent coach though he had 4 international class keepers in Hart/Heats/Pope/Robbo to work with not to mention talents like BPF and Norris ( Norris doubters might keep an eye out for him next couple of years )
Keeper coaches are a bit like keepers in that there’s barely a f@g paper between the top 500 in Europe .

Norris that will be under pressure the second Peterborough lose a game? That club is toxic and he’s got a Kevin Long-esque track record of playing games.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 4:30 pmDon’t Mercer and SD go back to his Chesterfield days ? Nowadays goalkeepers are surely like the outfield players - they can afford not to.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 5:21 pm...Have any top 'keepers gone on to be top goalkeeping coaches?
I've long held that few of the truly gifted/top players make great coaches, as guys that good never really know/understand how they do 'it', they just can, whereas the less gifted/journeyman players who had to work at their game to earn a decent living, come out with a better idea of how to do 'it' and are thus able to coach others.

Many have gone into keeper coaching but it’s a real back room type profile . There must be a good few but can only think of Nuno Santo as a top keeper whose gone into actual successful management in recent years .

Good to see this thread has rapidly turned into the classic “you will agree with my way of thinking or I’ll call you a DH” thread.

He was helping them out until the new manager had been able to bring in his own goalkeeping coach after which Billy Mercer left. He said at the time he went in that it was dependent on him getting a call from Sean Dyche.

They do go back to his Chesterfield days but it was Brian Laws who brought Billy Mercer in back in 2010 to replace Phil Hughes who had gone to Bolton.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 4:30 pmDon’t Mercer and SD go back to his Chesterfield days ? Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
Think it was more of a point that Heaton and Pope were signed on a free and £1.5m from lower league Bristol City and Charlton and were a long long way from being international keepers till they worked under Mercer. Neither Pope or Heaton were that young either and neither had pulled up any trees at their previous clubs and loan spells - wasn’t Pope at Bury on loan at one point ?AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 4:30 pmDon’t Mercer and SD go back to his Chesterfield days ? For them to both play for England and turn out to be 2 of the best keepers in the history of the club has got to be a lot to do with Mercer.
As for Joe Hart - as good as Mercer was he was no miracle worker !!

I have moved on, but still have a passing curiosity of ex staff and players - as many others clearly do.

Maybe the people who wish to discuss the subject. Is that a difficult concept for you to understand?
Why would you bother with a thread, whose title is quite clear, if you don't care?

Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
Exactly my thoughts. Football is very emotive and grips you. Personally if I see an article about an ex manager, ex coach, ex player of Burnley, I simply want to read it, whether they were good or bad for the club. And as another poster has said, if not interested just dont open the post and dont commentFeedTheArf wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 6:52 pmI have moved on, but still have a passing curiosity of ex staff and players - as many others clearly do.

Not as I’m aware, he just went with Coyle, Stewart & Davis. We blocked the physio from going until the summer, he’s at Blackburn now.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 6:49 pmThere was a bit of uproar over Phil Hughes going to Bolton at the time wasn't there?

Jussi refused to work with him on his first day at Bolton apparently, demanding his regular GK coach be brought back in.

Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
I’m not sure I know a fan who had an opinion on him to be honest. I don’t think he was highly rated. Coyle shunted the previous goalkeeping coach out at Bolton but was forced to bring him back in after protests from the keepers including Jussi.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 9:40 pmBy our fans? He went on to work with Coyle at Wigan & Blackburn.

Re: Have Mercer, Woan & Stone Found Jobs
Whilst I get the “if you don’t want to read a thread about ex-personnel, don’t open it” sentiment, the difference between Mercer and Coyle is that we had a bazillion threads about Coyle. And every subsequent team he went to, whereas this is the first (or so) thread about BM.
I’m one of the first to say “who cares” about Coyle. It was ages ago and rightly time to move on. This is far fresher.
