What an astonishing day/night that was.

Learned Brian Miller had been sacked just as I was boarding the coach. Watched us keep it to 0-0 at half time at White Hart Lane and then go behind in the first minute of the second half. And then that amazing response to win 4-1 with three of the goals coming in the final quarter of an hour. Two own goals, two goals from Billy Hamilton, equalling his total number of away league goals in two seasons.

One of those brilliant nights watching the Clarets.

Remember it well, it was indeed a fantastic night, especially after going behind early in the 2nd half.

Back in the eighties I had a lovely canary yellow Ford Cortina Mk 4 which had seen better days. I was all set to drive down to this game from Ipswich but the motor wouldn’t start so I had to miss the game. Imagine my ire when I heard the result.

Good grief 40 years. I was in LA at the time and couldn’t believe the score shown in the LA Times. This was before the internet etc and rang my office in Leeds to check, which was not straightforward, if it was a misprint.

Have to admit I was shocked when I realised it was forty years ago

I lived in London at the time, it kicked off a bit after the game and I remember me and my brother trying to hide massive grins on our faces on the bus home.

Was a school night for me and there was no way I was being allowed to travel down to London so I had to be happy with the Radio Lancs commentary. There were then brief highlights on ITV either that night or the night after, I remember the presenter saying something like ‘and before Burnley fans start throwing bricks at their TVs let’s get to the action at White Hart Lane’.

With working in those days I couldn't get to the match and after the sacking of Miller just beforehand I thought it was blessing! I actually listened on the radio and was quite upbeat at half time, but when they scored (Terry Gibson?) straight after the restart I turned it off and sulked. I turned it back on when it had just ended to hear the bad news and bloody hell I couldn't believe it. I was utterly shocked and grabbed the wife and spun her round the room, which DEFINITELY wasn't the norm!!

Absolutely brilliant game, loved it.

I remember radio Lancs went back to the match slightly late and all you could hear was the crowd noise as Spurs fans celebrated their goal. The heart sank!

I’ve always loved this iconic photo of my hero at the time, Billy Hamilton, after one of his two goals.

I missed the kicking off after the game but I remember it being a lengthy walk back to the coaches. We had Peter Higgs, Burnley Express, on our coach.

Never noticed before but do I see a Burnley fan celebrating in the Home end behind the goal for the 1st and 2nd goals we score ?

Suspect the Spurs No2 is Chris Hughton, but not certain.

The Saturday before, I think we lost at Bolton in pouring rain and Jim McDonagh score direct over Billy O'Rourke's head. Every one though I was mad going to Spurs.

I was there and that was pretty much an all time low watching the Clarets and crikey, that takes some doing because there's plenty of candidates. When the opposition goalkeeper scores from his own box and runs around celebrating you know you really are crap!

A memorable night indeed in the Milk Cup round 5 and our first meeting with Spurs in that competition. I still have the Official Programme and ticket stub from that game which reveals 40 pence for the Programme and £6 for the seat. I can remember sitting on the tube travelling to the game, turning to the back page of the London Evening Standard, and news of Brian Millers sacking was in the Stop Press. You don’t see that these days.

I know it was a bloody long walk but I wasn't bothered, I was young(er) and enjoying the night out.

School night for me also over the hill in Keighley.
There were a few of us at a pal's house playing snooker on a 6ft table. All we had was the radio for updates.
Seem to remember it being an age since the last update.
Then it came. It was Burnley 3 Tottenham 1. We went ballistic. 40 years. Eeh. Happy memories.

I was invited into a box owned by Daily Mirror. Surrounded by Spurs fans. One brought me a piece of cake before the start in a nice way to tell me they would win easily. At the end I proudly took him a four pieces back. What I night to see us score 4 at WHL. Had seen us do it before when we drew 4-4. Great but now distant memory

I still have the full game commentary on a cassette tape in a box in the loft somewhere.

Shows how times change, I didn't find out the score until I went to school the next day.

I was listening with my mates on a small pocket radio wandering around lane head area where I lived. I was 14. I remember it like yesterday.

Not me, but I was in that same stand, though further to the left of the goal. I'd only just gone to live/work in London and a new workmate took me up there to watch; I'm not sure if he ever took me again.

A mare of a night for Roberts, it seems the only time he failed to connect on those highlights was when he tried to foul/trip Hamilton to stop him scoring the last one.

Can't remember why but the only way I could get into this game was via having a ticket in the Spurs end...in fact on one of the upper tiers of "The Shelf" at WHL. Therefore had to be one of those horrible times when you are to surpress all emotion because you're surrounded by opposition fans. It was pretty hard to do as Billy Hamilton galloped away and blasted in that 4th goal !! For some reason I ended up later that night, fittingly, inThe Tottenham pub near Tottenham Court Road tube with friends who'd been in the Burnley end..

Remember going to Bolton the Saturday before and that was bad but I turned up to get coach ( viscount central ) and people thought I was mad but I wasn't bothered but wanted to go for day out and enjoy watching my team and the bonus was beating them which was brilliant, I remember it kicking off after the match as we neared Broadwater flat's where we learned later on that was where the gruesome murders took place by a guy called Neilson I think he was called . UTC

I bought the ticket a bit late and we were in the end away from most Clarets. We travelled in the Everton team coach. There was trouble after the match with a neighbour suffering a stab wound.

Got back to Stockport on the sleeper (in the seats) with some of the usual suspects on the train. Possibly the best away trip ever until Ewood in 2014. I shudder to remember what came over the following decade....

I was at the Bolton game but no way was a 14 year old me being allowed time off school to travel from Nelson to London, so it was Radio Lancs commentary and a game of darts with my brother. One of the most memorable of nights.

In 2002 i went to a Coca Cola roadshow at a large Sainsburys in London Colney where they had the FIFA World Cup on display. I managed to get my photo taken holding the cup, wearing a Burnley shirt of course. At the show were Clive Tyldesley, Rodney Marsh and Ray Clemence. Lots of SPurs fans having photos taken with him, when i spoke to him i introduced myself as a Burnley fan and told him he should have been sent off in the 83 Milk Cup game but didn't hold a grudge because of the 4-1 victory

Unbelievable match Hordle, Ardiles etc whacked 'em.

Walking back to Seven Sisters and on the tube, could hardly contain myself. The Tottingham Hotspur fans were far from happy! Loved it!

40 years, that's incredible, I rememberthat game like it was yesterday. Also, if I'm not mistaken, it will be 14 years on Saturday since the Carling Cup semi against Spurs.
