Hard to pick a mom, it was a real team performance, everyone played their part. I thought Bastien was very good, took the ball cleanly, and always looked to carry it, or pass it, forward when he could.

Muric 8 - fantastic sweeping and distribution
Taylor 7 - stuck at it despite being bullied and won a few headers afterwards
Maatsen 9 - 120 passes. I’ll just leave that thought here.
Roberts 7 - quite lively and progressive
Beyer 7 - like Taylor stuck at it despite their lumps clattering him
Bastien 6 - actually did ok, filled in decently enough but we were right to switch it up, they couldn’t cope afterwards
Cullen 7 - advanced up the field well, could have beem a touch braver
Brownhill 7 - energetic but doesn’t offer much of a goal threat
Barnes 8 - very lively and unlucky not to bag
Tella 8 - terrible attempt to win a pen and I’m not convinced he is a wide man, better at running behind. Great finish.
Zaroury 8 - most penetrating forward but his final ball let him down until the vital moment
Benson 6 - crocked early and struggled
Rodriguez 9 - superb and as well as good feet at their end he made 4 vital clearances at our end
This was a game where we started at 70% of our potential and faced some bad luck / bad refereeing which allowed them to sneak ahead and hold on. When we raised it to 90%, which offensively is about mid Premier League level, they started to struggle and the goal seemed inevitable. Before the free kick I was saying to the other half that they were ready to go, we then just needed a player to apply the coup de grace, and we have so many candidates, one normally steps up.
Posted on Twitter the other day that there is maybe no better historic example of a side bouncing back after a player fire sale and partial reinvestment at a profit. Normally a side bouncing back keeps the same players. We are arguably the most upwardly mobile side in world football (Fulham may disagree), young players will be desperate to join us, we can pick and choose them as a result which is a bit of a virtuous circle. I see us where Fulham are in a year’s time. It can’t last but we should enjoy the ride while it does.

Have a feeling the Wat’s just don’t like Muric!
Surprised (maybe I shouldn’t be) about some of the low scores tonight, West Brom are the best team we’ve played in my opinion.
Muric 8 what an outlet for our defenders
Roberts 8 never concedes possession
Bayer 7
Taylor 7
Maatsan 7
Cullen 9 just everywhere
Bastien 6
Brownhill 8
Tella 8 plus 1 for the goal but was tempted to take one off for the dive
Zaroury 7 great through ball
Barnes 7 good stuff. Unlucky not to score
JRod 7 some lovely link up play
Twine 8 what a free kick.

The “win of the season” competition is going to be hotly contested this season, but in the circumstances that is going to be a serious contender.
Muric - 8 - no chance with the goal and didn’t actually have much goalkeeping to do, but he had plenty of the ball at his feet and his passing was absolutely world class.
Roberts - 8 - got through plenty of good work down the right side.
Maatsen - 8 - occasionally guilty of forcing it with his passing, but he was a dynamic presence down the left and linked well with Zaroury.
Bayer - 8 - a very solid night’s work.
Taylor - 7 - defended solidly enough but the difference between him and THB is his willingness to be brave with his passing into midfield, and it was too slow and lateral at times which allowed WBA to set.
Cullen - 8 - grew into the game and ran the game after the break, even if the balance with Bastien wasn’t quite right.
Bastien - 7 - didn’t do much wrong but at times it seemed he and Cullen were trying to do the same job and the balance with Brownhill ahead of him wasn’t quite right, and we lacked a bit of fluency in midfield as a result.
Brownhill - 7 - plenty of dynamic running and might have had a penalty, but at times his touch wasn’t quite as sure as we needed it to be.
Tella - 7 took his goal brilliantly and pressed well but he struggled to create much for others and chances were otherwise at a premium.
Zaroury - 8 - not everything came off, but he always looked the player most likely to unlock WBA and so it proved, with the perfect through ball demonstrating there’s so much more in his locker than whipping in crosses and shots from the wing.
Barnes - 7 - a good night’s work for Ash and unlucky not to bag a goal in the first half and led the line well, but he’d have probably benefited from a technical player like Twine playing off him rather than Brownhill.
Rodriguez- 7 - provided a slightly more subtle focal point in an advanced number 10 role, and linked nicely without ever really looking like scoring.
Benson - 6 - his threat committed a man and created space but this wasn’t his night on the ball.
Twine - N/A but wow.
Firstly - WBA are a good side - one of the best we’ve played this season. They were decent enough on the ball, well organised and physical with some real height, and our initial struggles with set plays, including for the goal (albeit aided by a clear shove) suggested it might be a difficult evening. Down the spine of the team we were a bit stilted, with Taylor less comfortable passing down the pitch, Bastien not quite moving the ball quickly enough, and Brownhill spending too much time with his back to goal and not quite able to link up with Barnes. We were probably a technician light and a dynamic player too many down the spine, even if all played fine in isolation.
But we grew into the game, dominated the second half of the first half and we’re unlucky not to be level at the break - and the second half followed a similar pattern until we really turned the screw once Kompany sorted out the shape with the double substitution. After that we were far better balanced and if any team was going to win it, it was always going to be us. Kudos to Twine for as good a free kick as you’ll see, and the link up between him, Maatsen, Rodriguez and especially Zaroury down the left as we wound the clock down was almost worth the admission on its own. Special team this.

Muric 7....some sublime passing !!
Roberts 7
Taylor 8..thought he looked very good at CB tonight
Beyer 7
Maatsen 8...such a clever player. The way he comes inside and supplements our midfield when we have the ball is fantastic. Can inject real pace too
Bastien 7..decent but somehow less dynamic than Corky
Cullen 9....edged MoM for me. Seems to be everywhere.
Brownhill 8 ..also showed incredible workmate
Tella 7...mixed bag. Great goal and always looked a threat but takes the wrong option on occasion. I haven't seen it on TV yet but if he did dive then very poor
Barnes 7....unlucky not to score and a solid performance
Zaroury 8...love him ! Didn't realise he had played the through ball for Tella's goal and what a beauty it was.
Jay 7
Benson 6
Ywine...not on long enough to mark but WHAT a goal. That's a world class free kick isn't it ?

really enjoyed that. Ended up making the form team in the division (other than the top 2) look average by the end. Didn't get much luck for the whole game, but we stuck at it and reaped the rewards. 5 penalty appeals, close offside, hit the woodwork twice, their goal looked either a foul or out of play, but despite all the adversary, we prevailed.
Muric 8 - Great distribution and a good save in the second half
Roberts 8 - Looks a different player since the WC
Beyer 8 - Cultured
Taylor 8 - Won some crucial tackes, and is finally moving the ball more quickly
Mastsen 8
Cullen 8 - Our best midfielder tonight
Bastien 7 - Did well considering he isn't match sharp
Brownhill 7 - Grew into the game second half. Has some engione on him
Tella 7 - Needs to be involved more, but his goal was a fantastic finish
Zaroury 8 -Constant menace
Barnes 7 - Unlucky not to get a pen and score a couple
Rodriguez 7 - Looked sharp
Benson 6 - Poor crossing, got nailed. Hope he's ok
Twine 8 - Kind of knew he was going to score. Seemed like his time to arrive. So pleased for him
I genuinely think we can go the whole season unbeaten at home

Another supposedly top championship team comes to nick a goal, spoil things, waste time and is duly sent home with nothing. They've got some good players and look pretty solid but their solitary threat was their height at corners. This was all about us though and our team that doesn't stop doing what it does, knows it will find a way and works ridiculously hard to turn things in our favour. Another excellent win for the best team in the league.
Muric 8 topped his first pass of the night really badly and then didn't put a foot wrong for the rest of the game. The long one to Zaroury and the banana ball were the pick of his passes. Clearly fouled on their disallowed goal.
Roberts 8 excellent again
Beyer 8 both centre halves were fine and dandy
Taylor 8 he doesn't break the lines as well as THB but he switches play just as nicely.
Maatsen 8 apart from one instance in the first half, where he waved his winger past, he was top.
Cullen 7 obviously not used to playing with Bastien whonis different to Cork but he got better as the game went on
Bastien 7 nicely chilled and used the ball well and with a real calmness. Anticipates things really well and he was often in the right place to nick the ball away an sweep things up.
Brownhill 7 +1 for not trying to take that free kick
Tella 7 keeps going when things aren't going for him and he got his break in the end. Some finish it was as well, he took the time to reset himself as the ball ran across his run and thumped it home.
Zaroury 7 lush ball through to Tella and we put a he'll of a lot through him tonight, despite his end product being a bit off. Mint at the end with the old biznizz.
Barnes 6 unlucky with the one that hit the bar and he worked hard all night
Rodriguez 6 his best work was defensive towards the end and being involved in the triangles of tekkers as we ran the clock down
Benson 5 +1 for getting subbed for Twine
Some team, some season. Drink it in.

Brownhill 8 - never stops
Zaroury 8 - constantly probing, inventive play, classy as ever
Barnes 7 - industrious

Muric 8 - As good with his feet as any keeper i've ever seen and that second half save was as good as a goal.
Roberts 7 - Solid.
Beyer 7 - Not breaking the lines since moving sides but doing a job.
Taylor 7 - Really good tonight. Kompany giving him an audition at centre half in the earlybseason looks an inspired decision now.
Maatsen 8 - So busy
Cullen 8 - Decent enough throughout but finished the game like prime Zinedine Zidane
Brownhill 7 -
Bastien 8 - MOTM for me whilst he was on the pitch.
Tella 8 - Menace. Disn't always come off but his goal changed the game.
Zaroury 8 - Special player. Could justify being far more selfish at times but he plays for the team first and foremost. Sky's the limit for him.
Barnes 7 - Unlucky not to bag.
Rodriguez 7 - Showed real quality of touch and movement which helped us greatly.
Benson 6 - They doubled up but ge still caused problems. Sadly he didn't find the range with his final balls.

Tough to mark. I thought they weren’t great. Perhaps could have been but a bit Middlesbrough like in that they probably had more to offer than hanging on, but didn’t. I thought Coventry were better.

Was going to be critical of the defending for those first 2 corners, having now seen their goal clear foul on Taylor, however Muric got away with one in second half.

Muric 8 - sensational distribution. Could’ve been more dominant when defending corners.
Roberts 8 - solid defensively and played a pivotal role in our dominant 2nd half.
Beyer 7 - not at his best (maybe he prefers to play left sided) but had a very strong second half.
Taylor 7 - showed great pace when needed and one great block from Swift in the 1st half.
Maatsen 8 - had a troubling first 20 mins or so but then really grew into the game showing great energy and perseverance. Was vital in getting Zaroury on the ball in good areas.
Cullen 9 - best player on the pitch. One phenomenal block in the 1st half, always showing for the ball and running the game from the deep pivot. BUT then also getting more involved in and around their box in the last 20 mins when we penned them in. Great close control.
Bastien 6 - was ok but doesn’t offer enough imo. Lack of energy/tempo and a bit of a ‘water carrier’.
Brownhill 7 - didn’t have a good start in the advanced role with his touch letting him down a few times. Once he moved deeper he got far more involved in a role that’s better suited to him.
Tella 7 - some finish for the goal! He’s not a winger and was far more effective down the middle in a two.
Zaroury 8 - Furlong may have scored but he couldn’t handle Anass. He didn’t know which way he was going to go and Zaroury had him on toast. Great to watch - especially in the 2nd half.
Barnes 6 - battled well and was unlucky with the ‘offside’ goal and when hitting the bar. Just wasn’t his night.
Benson 6 - got clobbered as they were worried about him. His presence gave us more width/threat that was needed and lacking in the 1st half.
Rodriguez 7 - played very well as a focal point. Touch was good bringing others into play.
Twine NA - Wonderful free kick in one of the ‘moments of the season’ so far.
Vitinho NA - helped block things up.

Really suprised at some of the marks for Bastien. Won us possession back countless times and looked to get forward. Tiring after the hour mark unsuprising given lack of game time. I thought it was easily his best performance for us.

I thought he was decent, but the balance isn't quite right to fit him into this team.
As a partner to Cork in a double pivot, suspect he'd grow into a very good player. But he and Cullen are similar in stature and whilst Cullen is more of a ball player, they don't look to me a natural combination because they operate in similar areas. Nor for that matter is Brownhill and Bastien, because they are both industrious supporting players rather than creative prompters.
So the balance in that 3 wasn't quite right last night, which is absolutely no criticism of Bastien - he did fine on his own terms. It's just he was duplicating a bit of Cullen and a bit of Brownhill, and so there were some ingredients Cork normally brings to the mix (winning headers, screening the centre backs, bit of extra quality on the ball and calmness assertiveness on the ball) that were missing.
Ultimately, Rodriguez as an advanced 10 redressed that balance and we looked much better as a result.

Bastien did well last night..in what was our toughest test of the season.
Given that he's barely figured this season I'd say he's gonna improve with every game. Bank on it in fact.

Everyone should just be enjoying this team while we have it
Slowish start, with them scoring a goal that wouldn't have stood if it had been seen, and then we just grew into the game and just get better and better
Great strike by Tella to win it, and a gree kick that would have CR7 fanboys creaming their pants (if it had been scored by him obvs)
Fully deserved and we are simply one of the best sides to ever play at this level, and I think we can get even better
Muric 8 - distribution out of this world
Roberts 8 - good
Taylor 8 - dealt well with the big lad
Beyer 8 - good again
Maatsen 8 - as above
Tella 7 - great goal but wasn't great
Bastien 7 - did ok, just needs game time
Brownhill 7 - best first touch since Ian Moore contender with one last night though!
Cullen 9* - ran it second half, absolutely ran it
Zaroury 8 - final ball a bit off, but a peach of through ball and he had his man on toast 2nd half
Barnes 7 - probably should have scored, but led the line well
Subs
Benson 6 - hope the injury isn't serious
Jay 7 - extra bit of craft certainly helped
Twine 8 - what a free kick!
Said it before, and I'll say it again, but to change the team and style completely in such a short period of time and be this good is something that never happens, and we are watching it live in front of us

Same here. He got stuck in and kept the ball moving. It's not glamorous stuff but what he did, he did well.
