A shame as they were certs to go down with him. Surely that’s his managerial career over.
If Dyche doesn’t get a look in there I’m not sure where he ever goes, you’d think it’s made for him.

This is a big surprise not, Lampard another big name player who's yet to prove he's a capable manager.
No doubt he'll walk with a fair wedge though talk about a reward for failure.

Not sure this is a good move/timing by Everton if this has happened. A new manager has next to no time to assess current squad/ buy new players in this window. Big payoff to Frank/ any other management team members axed + running close to financial fair play constraints also mitigate against any big new player signings.
Would they next go for a manager to try & keep them up this season with gritty style (then replace next season) or one to achieve a longer term plan (which could involve a rebuild in the Championship)?
FL scraped them out of a fix last season (though they don't have Richarlson this time round) - can they bank on a new manager doing this?
Forrest are beginning to reap the reward of sticking with their manager after looking doomed earlier in the season (though the job isn't done fully yet).

Some desperate club will appoint Lampard pretty soon.
Football management seems to be the only career where multiple sackings have no bearing on your employability

It’s been reported all morning that Lampard is on his way although nothing official as yet.
Sean Dyche is favourite with the bookies and would be a good appointment for them although they don’t often go with the best option, in fact rarely do.

I think they've already spent "the brass"(to the tune of half a billion in the last 4 or 5 years) and are now quite constrained by FFP

Bielsa is a funny one. He has so many fans in the game, Pep among them, who say he's a genius, yet he's never had a job at a top top club.

This one of the reasons why Dyche won't be the next manager.
In all likelihood, potential managers will have been sounded out and their business plan appraised.
From rumours a month or so back, Dyches plan involved bringing Chris Wood and other players in. That ship has now sailed along with his plan.

He spent quite a bit of money. Onana, McNeil and Maupay cost best part of £60m in the summer and none of them have been a rousing success.

Not sure he’s a scapegoat. There’s a decent enough team in there. He’s lost 8 of the last 9 games and basically shown no signs of progress at all since he was appointed.

He hasn't been sacket yet, although all reports suggesting that he will be. He is probably playing hardball over his compensation. Blaming lack of investment is laughable. A club where supporterterd think they should never be relegated are in for a rude awakening.

By and large I think you are correct, however some of exceptions where gifted footballers have done the business:
Kenny Dalglish, at Liverpool
Zinedine Zidane, at Real Madrid
Kenny Dogleash, at Horse Botherers

I guess you'd need to see what % of good players become good managers and compare it with what % of players become good managers to have a stat on this that is meaningful in anyway

I agree with the point you're making, but I'm not sure I'd describe Lampard as a naturally gifted player. He struck me as someone who worked really hard on his game and probably overachieved, for the talent he had.

Might this be because there's many football players (perhaps 30 to 40 at a club) but only 1 manager; who might be good bad or indifferent.
Then we move along to talking about good players - could be helpful to have a common understanding of good player; be they internationals of teams that won more than they lost for example, premiership players who've won trophies or appeared more than 200 times.
Managers - when do they become good? Winning the Champions League (Roberto di Matteo?), several promotions (Eddie Howe?), working on a shoestring and exceeding expectations (Gareth Ainsworth?), developing players. Just some observations on how good might be measured?, or is me playing devils advocate.

On the 14th of January, the club security advisers told the board members to stay away from their home game with Southampton "for their own safety." (Guardian)
It appears the only harmony is the board members being loathed equally.

Spot on.
Lampard did a decent job at Derby and a good job in his first season at Chelsea but he’s been beyond dreadful since.

Think I remember seeing him mentioned as the lowest paid Premier League manager on about £1.5pa before he signed him a new deal. Imagine he’d have had a wee bump but it must still be significantly less than the £5m Lampard was quoted as being on (admittedly The S*n)
