Is anyone on the intelligent octopus tariff and, if so, are you using it to charge an EV ?
I’d like to get a users opinion on the app octopus uses to “intelligently” interface with the car (or is it with the smart charger?)

Yep, I’ve got it. Having issues setting up in the new house but it worked perfectly in the old place. Set your car to charge in the off peak hours and the octopus app does the rest.

Really good. Works out about 3p a mile if you get over 3 miles per kWh

On Octopus Go, trying to work out which is best for us.

I’ve got a podpoint charger which came as part of the car. We rarely use it as it’s actually cheaper to charge at work. We mainly use it for emergencies if anything as we’re not on any special tariff that gives us the lower prices overnight.

Can I ask, with the Octopus Intelligent/Go, can you use any charger or do they have to supply it, if that makes sense?

You can use pretty much any charger, there’s a drop down box on their website to select from.

I was on a 3 pin plug at the old house as I knew we were moving so didn’t fit the charger.

Thanks for the answer. I have a compatible car but the octopus website won’t let me progress without choosing the “correct” charger. I was wondering if I could choose any charger that would work just to get on the tariff and then let the app interface with the car (Ford) - this would only work if the interface is with the car and not a smart charger (hope that makes sense)

During the process (on the website) of applying for intelligent octopus it says that you need a compatible car OR a compatible smart charger however the process doesn’t complete unless you choose both - hence my question and post above.

Octopus phone support were pretty much useless on this and google doesn’t throw up much (neither does my cars owners club forum) so I thought someone may have used it on here and have info that might help (seems like 1fatclaret is the key to this )

Ive just gone on to it.

Im using it to charge 2 EVs so have to use my Ohme charger to manage that rather than the car's API capability.

If you have the Home charger, I can recommend a group to join on Facebook.

The intelligent refers to it being able to control when your car charges if it's better to charge outside the 11:30pm-5:30am window. I know there are certain cars that have issues with the tariff though because of the APIs in the cars keep getting updated and blocking/breaking the ability for Octopus to communicate with your car to tell it to charge.

I’ve checked and both the car and charger is compatible, so that’s good. Now just to figure out how to swap things over. The 10pp kWh is impressive, as I’ve been charging at work at 22pp kWh which I always thought was a good price for a public charger.

That’s good that both are compatible - what I’ve since found out is that although it lists cars as compatible it is not necessarily the case so when trying to sign up it depends on the charger being compatible for the system to work.
My charger is definitely not a smart charger as it is a 5yr old Rolec and as it turns out my make of car passes the original criteria but maybe the model doesn’t.
I would still like to get on to the intelligent tariff as it is a longer cheap period and a little lower rate than Go (I would use the car’s own app for scheduling purposes) but I think that if I can’t pass the initial charge vehicle test (putting octopus in control) then it won’t register me.
One thing I read on one of the forums is that, to sign up to intelligent, you give them enough of your details and details of the car to make it possible to remotely control the car (implication is that in the wrong hands the info could be used to steal the car) and so the insurers need to know (ie so I believe, I can’t confirm this so just need to check)
