random facts
Good grief, it's boring with no midweek game. So........ random facts and questions around them..... I'll start with a couple
When is "middle-aged." If it's a literal term then it would be 27 in Central African Republic, where the life expectancy is 54 years
I have an idea... let's build a wall from London to Auckland, New Zealand. Not long enough? Then build it longer, like the Chinese did with the Great Wall of China
Independence for Siberia!! If it was, it would be the world's largest country by land size......

The expression 3 square meals a day , comes from the Royal Navy. When sailors were given food on ships and ate it from a square board with sides to stop the food spilling as the ship rolled
Posh come from the abbreviation also from ships of the well to do travelling on outward journeys on the Port side - port out and coming home on the starboard side. Starboard Home abbreviated to posh. Actually this is an urban myth, but nice entomology

"Freezing the balls off a Brass Monkey" is nowt to do with the Testes of a primate dropping off in cold weather....
But due to the fact Cannonballs were stored on a plate called a Brass Monkey... Cannon balls were made of iron and the classic brass monkey was made of brass, an alloy with a much-greater thermal expansion than iron. As the temperature drops, the brass monkey contracts more than the iron balls. When the drop is enough the balls will fall off and roll around.
Hence the term "cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey"

Re: random facts
I once heard their are more natural objects in the galaxies than grains of sand on Earth.
I was dubious but as the galaxies are infinite it could well be true.

Re: random facts
That can’t be true because the planet earth is situated within a galaxy and therefore so are all the earth’s grains of sand. Grains of sand are natural objects so at the very least the total number of natural objects in the galaxies includes all the grains of sandTricky Trevor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:12 pmI once heard their are more natural objects in the galaxies than grains of sand on Earth.
