India-Australia test series

Worth keeping an eye on this tour by the Aussies ahead of this summer's Ashes.
1st blood to India on a turning wicket, bowling Australia out for 177, 5 wickets for Jadeja, before reaching 77-1 at the close, Rohit unbeaten on 56.
However before any England fan gets carried away it's blessed hard to win in India, and Australia appear to missing several key players.

No doubt India will prepare raging turners for every Test. Hard to see any kind of a contest.

Hotly contested series between these two- ranked 1 (Oz) & 2 (India) at test cricket.
Already some controversy according to the Daily Telegraph coverage:
"Ravindra Jadeja, the India spinner, was facing questions on Thursday about whether he applied a foreign substance to his finger while helping to bowl out Australia."
"Video footage shows Jadeja preparing to bowl his 16th over, with Australia 120 for five, and appearing to wipe a soft substance from Siraj’s hand and onto to his left index finger, the key digit for bowling left-arm orthodox."
India says: "Jadeja was applying pain-relieving ointment for sore fingers”.
Also some questions about the pitch preparation:
"The series began in controversial circumstances when sections of the Australian media accused India of “pitch-doctoring” after the groundstaff appeared to have dried the pitch out more on one side. India's top order is entirely right-handed, whereas Australia have four left-handers in their usual top seven (including Head).
Feisty stuff.

Aussies aren't helping themselves with Warner. He averages 23 in India and his dismissal yesterday was dreadful, which is symptomatic of the vast majority of his innings for the past couple of years, should have retired at the scg. That being said would be good if he got one decent knock in this series, don't want him losing his place in the team before the ashes.

Bit of a fightback by the Aussies on day 2, India 250-7, lead of 73, 120 for Rohit, and Jadeja again showing his worth this time with the bat nearing 50.
5 wickets on debut for Murphy including Kohli cheaply.

This 8th wicket stand taking the game away from Australia, 303-7 lead of 126, India were 168-5 at one stage as well.

I know Kohli has scored some runs in the one day stuff recently but he's on a shocking run in the Test format.

A proper pasting. Still- many test series have swings and roundabouts so Australia could come back; test 2 starts next Friday in Delhi.

We should probably remember our last series in India before we take the **** too much. Although we did start considerably better than the Aussies have.

The Aussies Cant make their minds up who to pick. Too loyal to some, scared to pick fresh talent.
The other thing, the way they prioritise T20 here, the players are forgetting how to play test cricket.

If they meet again in the final of the World Test Championship in England my money would definitely be on the Aussies. The pitches in India don't make for a fair contest.

I’m looking to the Ashes this summer, I’ve got tickets for both Headingley and Old Trafford tests
Rammy, let’s hope we do better than the last couple of tests that we went to at the MCG!

Exactly this.
This hammering that the Aussies have just taken gives us absolutely no indicator whatsoever of how the Ashes series will pan out.

I assumed Travis Head must be injured, surprised they've dropped him. Been one of their best players in recent times.

No surprise India romped to victory inside 3 days, they haven't lost a home series since 2012, and on these pitches you can see why.
Australia will be a completely different animal come the summer, and although this England side are in a good place right now the bold approach could easily see us bowled out cheaply in some innings against this quality Aussie attack.

The way Warner got out in the first innings tells me Stuart Broad will have him on toast again this summer.

Australia struggling with the bat again on day 1 of the 2nd test, 256-9 after opting to bat 1st, a couple of 50's, but Smith a 2nd ball duck, and Warner only 15 failing again.

This could be a real thriller.
Australia 263 AO, India 262 AO.
Warner ruled out for the rest of the match for concussion injury allowing Matt Renshaw to replace him.

Australia 61-1 at close of day 2, looking like a very competitive game this time round.
It looked like Australia would have a better 1st innings lead than 1 run when they got India 139/7 but a 114 partnership then from Patel and Ashwin stymied that.
Good start by Aus though in 12 overs in that last period must give them some confidence for day 3.

Australia win the 3rd test to seal their place in the WTC final at Lords where they will face either India or Sri Lanka, quite how Sri Lanka are ranked so high baffles me.
The WTC final takes place a week before the 1st Ashes test.
