Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
It's Preston at home and they aren't exactly having a good season. We're flying high and expected to beat them comfortably. However it's a local derby and they will want desperately to put in a good show for their fans and get one over on us.
Let's say it's 0-0 at half time and one or two of our lot will be murmuring and becoming disgruntled.
Fast forward and it's the 70th minute and still 0-0. One of our passes goes astray and the murmuring will be come howls of discontent which feeds it's way from the stands onto the pitch and the players start to become more anxious. I think you get my drift.
The message from me is to stay patient and keep behind them. This team knows how to break teams down and will find a way.
In Vincent we trust.

Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
Our fans have been great all season and lots of games have been drawing after 70 with the fans still getting behind the team. Think everyone is on board with VK and the style.CaptJohn wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 10:20 amIt's Preston at home and they aren't exactly having a good season. We could be 0-2 down with 4 mins to go and I'm still confident we will win. That's how I've felt this season, it's nuts.

I actually think the fans have been great this season, really driving the team on even in games where the opponents are frustrating us for long periods. Think the vast majority can see what VK is trying to do here. Not sure how the OP has conjured up this scenario tbh.

Maybe factor in being 3-0 down at half time into your next post, so we know what to expect in that scenario.

Burnley fans are well out of order in CaptJohn's imagination.
Come on guys, show patience and get behind the team in his imaginary scenario.

Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
We've found a way through most teams, even when we haven't been at our best and the opposition, despite being distinctly average in terms of league position, have refused to roll over for us and have proved an exceedingly tough nut to crack. Clearly the day will come when things conspire against us and we we'll lose (or draw) to somebody clearly inferior or simply rank bad. That COULD be tomorrow, but hopefully not. What I will say is that if I was the kind of person who heads for the exits 10 minutes before the end of games (I'm definitely not BTW and never have been) I wouldn't be going anywhere until the ref blows to signal the end with this Burnley team.

You've pretty much described the Blackburn game where the fans were great.CaptJohn wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 10:20 amIt's Preston at home and they aren't exactly having a good season. Nice story.
Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
The only real issue was early in the season when some of the fans weren’t used to Muric playing like Beckenbaur at the back ,but after a few games he won the fans over.

Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
Fans will be well up for this one. 3pm Saturday kick off, sell out, derby (even though I don’t really care about them personally). All the makings of a cracking atmosphere, albeit patience likely required due to PNE’s defensive set up.

Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
Fans have been fine recently, yes in the early weeks of the season there was some frustration as we struggled to break packed defences down, however now we've find a winning formula, and always carry a goal threat the crowd will remain patient, and why not given how often we've struck late in games.
Yes derbies can be tricky, but player for player we are miles better than PNE, and generally that tells over 90 minutes, oh not to mention the quality of subs we can introduce as the opposition tires.

As we have a habit of winning games in the 90 plus xth minute, I don’t think many will be fretting

Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
I heard a rumour that VK wanted the club to make this match away fans only such was his concern that the action of Burnley fans might scupper our chances. The only exception was he said due to being let down mid-week Agent Claret could go on and sit in his normal seat

Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
Let's say it's 0-0 after 90 minutes and one of our lot, disgruntled by Muric's passing, runs on and scores for Preston from 40 yards. A piledriver into the top corner. The referee, distracted by a carrier bag swirling in the wind, doesn't notice and the goal stands. Scary how our fans could work against us.

I'm with captain John Mannering on this one. I have a battery operated shredder that does plastic, and if we lose or draw I'll growl at my season card and in it goes with a big boo as well.

Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
If we're not 2-0 up after 15 minutes I'll be giving that useless new manager some ret stick haha.
Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
As said previously, the fans have been really patient this season, mainly as they are fully aware that teams who either park the bus, or press intensely against us, can't keep it up for 90 mins, and usually fade and falter in the last third of games. This is when we bring on the match winners from the bench.
The only issue with fans on the turf is they have been a bit quiet on the odd occasion (Coventry), but mostly have been great.
The last team to beat us at the turf in the championship? Preston
No complacency from me

I think there's the risk of an early goal for us that may see complacency setting in which quietens the crowd.

Fortunately a programme thrown in anger by a fat lass in the away end would deflect the ball away from goal.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 11:18 amLet's say it's 0-0 after 90 minutes and one of our lot, disgruntled by Muric's passing, runs on and scores for Preston from 40 yards. Win, lose or draw how can anyone be disgruntled. We are top of the league, playing great football.

I'm with Corporal Jones. "Don't Panic! Don't Panic!"
(I could refer to the real Captain Mainwaring's frequent admonition to Pike. But in the interest of board harmony, I won't.)

Ched Evans, the Preston striker, has just been given a 4 game ban, starting today, following a retrospective review of an incident not seen by match officials in a previous game. It will mean he'll miss tomorrow's game ....

What if we’re 2-0 down after 70 mins and the Bob Lorders are grunting ,groaning , sighing , quietly passing away, complaining etc ( slightly more that usual) then in goes the 3rd! They can’t take it anymore ! blankets ,flasks and walking frames are thrown on the pitch …An enraged VK charges into the BL “Cantona style “ as a tartan thermos hits him full on , flipping his cap clean off to reveal a Davros style smoking open circuit on Vincent’s now “ open and shut “ skull …
Well the OP started it !!

Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
I am positive that our fans will be fine. There will always be a few though. At the Boro' game before Christmas there was a bunch behind me who clearly haven't been for years. They were behaving and shouting like t'olden days and giving the defence stick for passing it between them and not 'getting rid' or not 'hoofing it upfield'. They were pleasantly surprised that bene was on sale though

Based on weve been losing or having to come from behind in a number of games and still managed to do it, even if its 0-1 at half time id still expect us to come back. Thats in the DNA of this team , they do not give up
Re: Our own fans could be the issue tomorrow
There have been several games where we haven't been flowing in the first half including some where we have been behind and the support has been good. No idea where the OP is coming from.
