Probably because the last 2-3 games the defence infront of him has been guilty of handing the ball over in dangerous areas. Ekdal being the main culprit, we really miss Beyer and THB in that regard.
Really, I’ve not noticed that? I can recall one miss placed pass from Ekdal, otherwise would’ve said his distribution has been great.

Re: THB/Beyer, I don’t really think we’ve missed THB. I know people rate his passing as a major strength but I always find his long balls to be very inconsistent. Although that’s perhaps because he is good enough to attempt those where others don’t… which we probably have missed thinking about it.

Beyer yes, but we need to find a way of turning those brilliant runs in to end product. Too often the rest of the team stand and watch him (instead of advancing with him) and it results in a sideways/backwards pass.

Muric was fine, made a couple of regulation saves and caught about three simple crosses which were dropped pretty much on his head. I wouldn't say he 'came for crosses' as they were right at him and he barely had to leave his line to collect them, but he dealt with everything he needed to.

He made one mistake ….
Which cost us a goal and his distribution was uncharacteristically poor in that game.

Guys, look at yourselves. You're crucifying your own players for the occasional mistakes that all players make. They aren't robots. Then when one poster speaks up for one player, posters state why they think some other player is better, quite often someone who wasn't in the last team. Support the whole group of players and ignore the occasional error. It's football. Mistakes will happen regularly.

he wasn't coming for those simple ones 6 months ago, he either left them, flapped or punched - his development is there for all to see imho

Agreed he was punching way too many previously, you're wasting your time though mate, you simply can't win here.

Thought it was interesting that last night he went long on several occasions. Assume he must have been under instructions to do it more often but personally thought that was an odd choice of match to do so given their goliath of a centre half; it did come straight back on more than one occasion.

no biggy mate, people only have to see the mistakes by Allison and Courtois last night to realise even the absolute best make mistakes, I'm really pleased by the progress we are seeing from Muric, for the most part he's been exceptional, the pressure he is put under because of the way we play is pretty extreme and he not only handles it but excels - he passes the ball better than some lads we've had playing in midfield

They made note of that on the commentary, they said Kompany was telling him where to pass it

I agree. He seems a safer pair of hands at dealing with the more bread and butter crosses, which is possibly aided by an instruction to stay on his line rather than go looking for crosses and also probably by defenders becoming better at blocking off attackers and affording him more protection. Just pointing out that the crosses he claimed were very simple and ones you’d expect any goalkeeper to take. Not everything that Muric does has to be polarised.

They were decent takes and weren’t just on his line. Comms team both praised them at the time.

I do agree with the polarising point and that is why this thread is so long.
His catches last night though were top class and this point should not be undervalued. This is part of his game that people are looking to see improve so well done to Muric.

Why oh why is Muric under the spotlight ?? Loons talking about him “ needing catching practice with coaches “ etc god almighty ! Does anyone think even for 1 min that handling isn’t an absolute core for any keeper . You won’t get out of an u11 academy without excellent hands ( and feet of course ) Muric is doing just fine , all keepers have the odd foot howler and “ unlucky dipping ball” like he did a while back .
If the ball is a “ solid take “ he’l take it end of . It must be remembered that the last 2/3 yrs the punch, “ help ball on its way flap of hand and the parry of hard shots it’s simply what’s being coached . Few keepers have Heaton’s hands .

absolutely and I wasn't trying to make it polarizing, I was just pointing out that he was getting those 'basics' wrong - you would expect him to do what he did last night in his sleep tbh

Nope, not for this team. Pope suits Newcastle, but wouldn’t get a look in at City or Arsenal for example. I think Pep or Arteta would choose Muric over Pope if it came down to it.

I can't tell whether the reason i'm nervous when he's playing the ball at the back is because he's shakey at it, or because ball-playing keepers and playing out from the back scares me to death.

To be fair just because someone says Muric appears to be weak in a specific area doesn't necessarily mean there slagging him off and think he's sh***.

Our coaches and manager will probably be pointing out his weaknesses in training and working on them most weeks.

It's quite obvious what Muric brings to our side in terms of his passing ability, I'd question if there's many keepers in the top two divisions that have his level of ability in this respect and I think there's very few that would fit into this system.
However when it comes to the command of his area I think you'll find lots better in the top two leagues.
However if Muric was good at everything he'd still be at Man City so that's the way to look at it.
If we can improve his weaknesses he'll be a top keeper, if he was any better right now he wouldn't play for us. He's a good fit.

The one thing that I do have a question mark over is "mentality". I use that tentatively as it's hard to judge and I may be well wide of the mark, but he looks an absolute confidence player to me, the sort that makes a mistake and isn't coming back from it in a game, likley to continue to feel the pressure and continue to make mistakes. It might not be so and I hope not but I believe it's one of the reasons he was substituted after a bad first half last week.

I rate Pope as arguably the best GK in the world but wouldn't seap him for Muric in this Burnley side. If I had Muric at Huddersfield i'd swap him for Pope all day long but Muric is a crucial cog in our system and despite his many strengths as a GK Nick Pope cannot do Muric's job.

Yes , gives the ball away yet again , resulting in an injury to one of our players, brilliant.

All players can have a pass intercepted. Any player when making a tackle can suffer an injury. Today the two came together in a terrible result for Ian Maatsen. But to use this to further your crusade against a player, and that is what it is now, is just very sad. Both players will be feeling bad as will the rest of the group. These are the kind of times and circumstances when supporters prove their worth and loyalty by standing firmly alongside their players, not by attacking them.

Amazing we win 4-0 and yet again some posters can't wait to take ain at Muric, he didn't have a lot to deal with today, but what he had to do he did efficiently enough and the incident with Maatsen was just unfortunate.

Burnley win the league by a record points total. On the balcony of the town hall, above a swell of Burnley fans from the top of Manchester Road to the bottom, the Burnley players each raise the Championship trophy. Muric is booed for raising it too high/too low/too long/too short/delete as appropriate.

The celebrations promptly end. This thread is on page 1372.

True.

And did lots of other good “goalkeeping” (as the folk that think goalkeeping is just done with the hands call it).

Yes , gives the ball away yet again , resulting in an injury to one of our players, brilliant.
Ridiculous comment. I bet you believe in the coincidence of destiny rather than reality too. I also believe the Peps of this world would choose Muric over Pope. There was an incident around 50 minutes, where Muric deliberately coaxed Huddersfield’s players forward and then played it long, which almost resulted in a goal. Very intelligent football from Muric. That, plus his catching, when necessary, has clearly improved

Amazing we win 4-0 and yet again some posters can't wait to take ain at Muric, he didn't have a lot to deal with today, but what he had to do he did efficiently enough and the incident with Maatsen was just unfortunate.
Unfortunate yes , his fault also yes

Apparently Maatsen has just unfollowed Muric on Instagram.
