Vincent and the Ballboy
Anybody spot what was happening between VK and the ballboy in the BL/JM corner during the second half?
Looked to be having a good conversation with him whilst the game was being played

Re: Vincent and the Ballboy
I got the impression Kompany was telling him to get the balls back in play quicker.

Apparently someone sat on the front row of Bob Lord Stand overheard VK explaining to the lad if he doesn't train hard and listen to the coaching staff this is the kind of sh*t team you'll end up playing for instead of Burnley

I hadn't realised anyone in the Bob Lord could still hear; though I suspect that hearing aids are getting better nowadays.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 6:16 pmApparently someone sat on the front row of Bob Lord Stand overheard VK...

Think VK might have been slightly out of his coaching area

Re: Vincent and the Ballboy
The ball boy gestured to VK he had been told to slow it down, so I presume VK wanted him to keep the pressure on.
Re: Vincent and the Ballboy
How many managers are so "on point" with game organisation, VK works with everybody involved even training and guiding the ball boys.
Fantastic manager to have.

Was right in front of me this. VK was very calm and measured. Tella told the ball boy to "slow it down". VK had a few words and left. Attention to detail is massive

Re: Vincent and the Ballboy
Ross Wallace had mentioned it earlier in the commentary that the ball boy in that area was Trevon Bryan and that he had scored earlier in the day in an U-18s match.
As has been noted further up, in-game ball boy coaching is serious attention to detail from Vincent Kompany!

Re: Vincent and the Ballboy
It was a ball boy (Liverpool youth player) that quickly gave the ball to Alexander-Arnold who quickly passed to Origi for Liverpool to knock Barcelona out of the champions league 4-0 on the day after losing the first leg 3-0. Klopp and Guardiola have always been keen for their home ball boys to pay proper attention and speed up/slow down where appropriate.
A former manager of ours, I forget who, would have referred to it as 'fine margins'.
It probably wasn't as necessary today at 3-0, but as evidenced by the Rotherham game, it can have a marked effect.

Re: Vincent and the Ballboy
Apparently, he did a training session earlier in the season with all the ball boys based on these concepts. Perhaps this lad was a new one.distortiondave wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 8:48 pmIt was a ball boy (Liverpool youth player) that quickly gave the ball to Alexander-Arnold who quickly passed to Origi for Liverpool to knock Barcelona out of the champions league 4-0 on the day after losing the first leg 3-0. Re: Vincent and the Ballboy
I sit with my dad in the corner stand between Bob Lord and Jimmy Mac stand so had a great view of it. Ball boy slow off his stool and in collecting the ball, Konpany from distance may have thought it was a missed opportunity for a quick restart. so Kompany really not happy with him being lethargic and slow to react, comes down and in a firm but positive manner has a word in his ear. When Kompany got there ball boy to his credit, clearly explained Tella had told him to slow it down and Kompany seemed to calm down a bit after that. I've been annoyed about the ball boys for years under Dyche, they were clearly a detail Dyche missed as they mostly just sat there freezing until their free half time free pies or hot dog. They clearly werent coached properly or given any instructions and there were too few of them. That all has changed under Kompany and I spotted early on in the season Kompany did the same, coming down and nicely but firmly explaining he wanted them more alert and reacting quicker getting the ball back for a quicker throw etc The next home game we noticed a coach giving out very detailed instructions to a small group of ball boys. It's a small but minor detail and I'm pleased it's been picked up on, its something Dyche and his coaching staff never bothered with, probably because the style of play then meant there was rarely a need to restart quickly.

Loving this level of detail from Kompany. Marginal gains.BigJay wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 10:08 pmI sit with my dad in the corner stand between Bob Lord and Jimmy Mac stand so had a great view of it. Re: Vincent and the Ballboy
Vinnie had hoped for 'multiball' but having discovered that isn't a thing anymore he wants a large number of ballboys/girls to get play restarted as quickly as possible.
Today, Tella had just had a couple of quick runs, seemed to be breathing a little heavier and did motion to the ballboy to slow down the return of the ball. Vinnie just put the ballboy right.

Presume the lad will now be fined two weeks wages for disobeying club rules
