VK on the referee

Post by Milltown1882 » Tue Feb 14, 2023 9:42 pm

Hopefully he doesn’t mince his words in the presser. Single-handedly one the lost shambolic refereeing ‘performances’ I’ve ever seen on the Turf.

Not the reason we’re losing though. Only got ourselves to blame.

I thought he got most calls right to be fair.

Watford took it to the line and kept it there , like dyche of old.. broke game up , time wasted . But not a lot ref can do but add time on , and there probably should have been 3 more of them

Yes but seemed to fall for most of their tricks and missed a couple of assaults on ours

It was a scrap and they brought us down to their level, and we allowed them to. We stopped playing our own game and played theirs

Regular calls perhaps. Big calls - absolutely shambolic. Gave them every free kick when we went in too hard, gave us very little. Barnes booked for nothing, then the player Barnes “assaulted” for his yellow drags him to the ground by his neck and should’ve been a red and a penalty - nothing. That for me is unforgivable for any ref to do that. He definitely saw it too, but thought Barnes was play acting because of the previous incident.

Joke, absolute joke.

Difficult game to ref, seen much worse performances this season. Watford played right on the edge like we used to, people never complained then.

Barnes was too busy skull-duggering. He could have been sent off several times. Sadly, several players followed his lead.

We need to be more clinical, calm and professional. Our young players have the talent.

Barnes WAS play acting. It was a case of 6 and two 3’s and the ref got it absolutely right.

I have watched it back - starts off as six and two threes. Then Ash is dragged to the ground. Have you watched how the Watford player got Ash booked? That’s bloody disgraceful for a grown man to “die” on the pitch like that. Bloke needs to get to hospital because if he’s going down like that he’s got a major health problem!

The ref wasn’t good but you can’t blame him wholly for our performance, I haven’t seen us give the ball away so much all season. Tella, Maatsen, Zaroury and others made loads of awful passes under no pressure at all. We seem to play better and control games better when Cork is in midfield with Cullen.

Difficult for the ref. A lot of shenanigans going on. Not an easy job for the ref
The players did their best to make him look shambolic.

Thought we mullered 'em. Absolutely dominated but a 10 man strong defence was always going to be difficult to break through.

agree regarding the watford player but Barnes drags the Watford lad down using all his experience, it's as clear as can be. Good point in the end though, can't blame the red for us not being able to pass to each other

From what I could see on TV, the ref got most of it right. Some early calls that the fans were moaning about were correct decisions. I didn't enjoy watching the way Watford played but they got that early goal which was gifted and then dug in.

I don't mind teams fighting for points but aren't they supposed to be a big club with lots of exciting players?

Oh well, we kept fighting and did well to get a point when I thought all was lost but I couldn't blame the ref for any of that, really.

Also, I would love to know how the ref, from well outside the penalty area, can see Barnes supposedly nip the lad, yet didn't see the same lad backhand Al-Dakil in the face. He was at it at every corner and Barnes got dragged into it, but he (the Watford lad) should have at least have a yellow card tonight.

The ref was a shocker. Saying Burnley players couldn't pass to each other is a bit daft, have a look at the passing stats.

We have certainly got into bad habits of niggly fouls.

We pick up far too many bookings for not many advantages.

It worked against us after a good start. Stopped momentum.

The spell in the 2nd half was ridiculous booked Barnes for a push on their 44 and then he did exactly the same on three separate occasions off the ball and not once did the ref who hasn’t seen it bother to consult his assistant.

Thought the ref was a lot better than some we’ve had ,we were as bad as Watford ,a lot of play acting ,getting plaudits from across the board ,but not a good look all the diving ,& whinging we did tonight.

Some utter guff being spouted here. Watford did a job on us by and large and the ref was fine. We'd have helped ourselves by not going down with theatrics.

As for that Barnes yellow - we've been told how much of a menace he is for nipping, standing on feet etc for almost a decade. Barnes had two hands on their lads torso before he went down. Likely Ash did create that situation, after which Barnes was clearly looking to give the defender and ref a quandry by going to ground at will. It almost worked but with the quality in this team i'd sooner watch us try and play football rather than fall over.

The best shout for a pen looked to be the one on Tella before all that but the ongoing nonsence meant we didn't even see a replay of that particular incident.

If you were on the game, I can well imagine you are incensed by the referee. If you had watched it on TV you would have see that 85% of what has annoyed you is actually play acting by the players. It's pure and simple cheating and sadly both sets of players were as bad as each other.

I got the impression on the pre-match I’ve just watched that Kompany felt we let them bully us too much in the first game. Think he was expecting a niggly struggle tonight.

But the ref then missed their player dragging ours to the floor on three separate occasions while we waited for the corner to be taken. Total lack of consistency but that seems to the the norm at this level.
