He is the only fast bowler to take more than 600 Test wickets, has played the most Test matches for his country and only Sachin Tendulkar has made more appearances in the history of the game.

A legend of the game and one of the finest sports stars the country has ever produced.


And still nothing really in Burnley acknowledging his achievements, very poor really.

Benjamin Button, absolutely fantastic career and seems to be getting even better with age.

Belvedere Road should be renamed James Anderson Road.

He's been recognised, rightly, by Burnley Cricket Club, but the town has made no positive attempt to do so other than awarding him the freedom of the borough. There should be some recognition of him in the centre of town, maybe a road re-name and/or a statue.

Once suggested on here that Centenary Way should be renamed James Anderson Way. I'd agree with that, or alternatively, Manchester Road from the bottom until past the Town Hall. Visitors to the town should be able to see how proud we are of the finest sportsman we have ever produced.

Made Harry Potts Way much easier and I think there will only be Tesco with a Centenary Way address.

Forget naming a road, just build the bloody statue. NOW!!

Statue should come once he retires. Doing it earlier seems odd to me. An iconic moment might still be around the corner and any plaque listing his achiements could be out of date the same week it was unveiled if he's still playing.

He deserves the highest recognition the town can afford him. A sensational sportsman; an incredible career.

I make it two tests against New Zealand , a test against Ireland and a 5 Test Ashes series.

If he can average slightly over 4 wkts a Test match he will do it.
He has to be picked for every test and stay fit for the full year . Otherwise he might need a big haul in one or two of the 8 Tests.
Whatever happens he’s been colossal !

You would imagine him and Broad will play 3/4 each in the ashes, it’s definitely doable.

If he stays fit for the rest of the year he could well surpass Warne, and no imminent sign that Jimmy is preparing to hang up his bowling shoes anytime soon.

I do take umbrage with the OP on one point however, what do you mean one of the greatest fast bowlers, surely the greatest.

I never thought he’d pass Glenn McGrath, I then thought there was no chance of passing Anil Kumble. Shane Warne - seriously? Now just 31 behind. Who knows? But how long can he continue?

Let us just appreciate the skills and fitness this great cricketer as and when he hangs is cricket boots up then that is the time to for our Town to acknowledge Jimmy in some way , I would hope some sort of statue.

A statue on the corner of Harry Potts way and Tod road (where it says turf moor in black and white) would be a great location for a statue. It gets a massive amount of footfall from people from all over the country.


I’m not a massive cricket fan but he’s clearly the greatest sportsman ever to come from the town. Deserves something to commemorate that

I remember Dennis Lilley slowed down a lot late in his career, off a shorter run up, but he was still a terrific bowler.

Changed his action a lot over the years and his whole run up / delivery is a lot more efficient/economical, sort of let’s the motion and wrist get the ball velocity rather than over straining if that makes sense.

He’s obviously lost a little bit of pace but it’s what he does with the ball - he can swing it any way he likes and ball it off the seam or using cutters dependant on the wicket/overhead conditions - he’s also a master at disgusting his deliveries.

He used to bowl super side on which put extra torque on the body but overtime changed.

He really is a marvel, the bloke is an absolute legend and imo the greatest English sportsman of all time.

To the the leading wicket taker of all time for seamers, considering just how many people play cricket around the world, the other greats before him and how he’s constantly adapted and changed his game is bonkers.

Not to mention he had a prolonged period outside of the England team when he worked on his action etc and had a few injury issues (early-mid 2000s).

Not really into knighthoods and all that crap but if anyone deserves one it’s Jimmy. Ridiculous player

I'd say if anything he has been unlucky with injuries over the years. I think he looks after himself extremely well, more so the older he's got - looks leaner than he did when younger. Pace-wise, he's never been lightining fast, but I think he has dropped off a bit in recent years and his average has just got better and better as hes got older.

Every day that passes without recognition by the town council is an absolute disgrace. It’s THAT bad when a sportsman of Jimmys quality hasn’t been recognised and some sort of permanent reminder of his WORLD CLASS status erected in the town.

I can only hope they are waiting for his retirement…

Could be problematic building a statue ,if the woke brigade find out he’s bowled out a few W Indies,& Indian players ,they’ll be wanting it removed.

The former captain and opening batsman Cook was knighted for services to cricket. Surely James Anderson deserves a similar award…maybe he has to wait until he retires.

Well Jimmy doesn't look tired judging by his recent wickets hauls, indeed if anything he's improved with age.

I assume you are referring to Fred Trueman as the GOAT, way before my time but I wouldn't have fancied facing him that's for sure.

What sets Anderson and Broad apart is their longevity, often you get quick bowlers who can be explosive for 6-7 years, then as their pace drops they become less effective, but Jimmy and Stuart just keep going and going incredible stamina by the pair of them.

The horse fiddlers have Alan Shearer Way way down from Deadwood, hardly a local home grown hero was he?

Burnley council need to get their thumbs out if their arses and sort this now.

Don’t think Burnley has produced many if any World number ones The town should certainly recognize his amazing achievements. Turf Moor should be the site of this as that was where his career began. I watched a you tube the other day where a Preston fan specifically went to the Cricket Club to view the display of his caps etc. it was amazing how revered he was by JA. If Harry Potts deserved a street then so dies Jimmy. How about renaming Yorkshire Street into Anderson Way linking it to Harry Potts Way. I am sure JA would love to to take over Yorkshire !!
