Enjoyed watching that, a proper good battle on a garbage pitch and the better team came out on top.

Muric 7 rarely challenges but he handled well all afternoon

Roberts 7

Ekdal 8 steeled in very nicely and very quickly

Taylor 8 lol at those who questioned him starting

Maatsen 7

Cork 7 controlled things

Cullen 7 metronome. Glad I can resurrect the one word review.

Brownhill 7 his energy was vital today

Gudmundsson 6

Tella 6

Barnes 8 thought he was cracking today, the ideal warrior up top

Zaroury 6

Vitinho 7 stretched things really well when he came on.

Ground this out really well. Hilarious they complained about the pen. Good stuff.

Muric 8 - you did wonder if Tuesday may have effected his confidence but that was probably his most confident GK performance all season
Roberts 7 - stood up to their physicality
Ekdal 9* - wonder if he’s ever played in a match like that? won most headers, calm in 1 on 1 situations
Taylor 9 - excellent tackling and used his physicality against their big lads
Maatsen 7 - good defensive performance
Cork 8 - guilty of being a bit sloppy on the ball but absolutely needed his physical presence in there today
Cullen 8 - not able to display his pass and move stuff today given the pitch but showed his other side which is often overlooked
Brownhill 5 - thought he struggled today
JBG 5 - wasn’t his game out wide
Tella 5 - ball bounced off him a bit too much, not his type of game
Barnes 6 - never doubted him from the spot but aside from that I thought he limited our play a bit with some slow and scruffy link up, credit for assisting at defensive set pieces though

Zaroury 7 - gave us much needed width and threat
Vitinho 7 - same as above

Not going to complain about Luton’s methods of stopping us play (driest pitch I’ve ever seen, long direct physical football) as their wage bill is under 10m a year and they do what they do well. But at the same time, it made it a horrible, scrappy game which was only ever going to be decided by a set piece.

Not sure why the Luton fans were so upset as it’s a clear penalty and their players were ridiculous in the way they reacted. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get a fine for the way they rushed the ref.

Muric 7 Good comeback
Roberts 7 some brilliant covering for the centre halves
Ekdal 8* Incredible how he's just slotted in
Taylor 8 Up for the battle, some great defending
Maatsen 7 His defending has come on so much.
Cork 6 Untidy by his standards, but essential today
Cullen 6 not his best game for us, but grew into the game
Brownhill 5 Poor today, good energy isn't enough, but it's keeping Josh in the starting 11
Gudmundsson 6 Quiet with the odd glimpse of quality
Tella 6 Let's hope that the injury isn't too bad
Barnes 7 Battled all of the game, essential in this match

Tough tough game and the Burnley of early season probably wouldn’t have won that but we have a steel as well as flare. Luton played to their strengths including having a pitch as dry as Blackpool beach but that’s their prerogative as the home side. Brownhill is still disappointing me as his distribution is poor. Hopefully Tella’s injury isn’t too bad.

Absolutely impossible to score imo. We were really, really poor, especially by our extremely high standards, but I'm utterly delighted at the robbery of the 3 points!

Muric 8 - was actually composed and assured , a lot more longer balls but the pitch called for it
Roberts 7 - solid all game
Ekdal 8 - really growing in stature this young man
Taylor 9 - MOM i was worried about him at CB today but he was imperious, best performance he’s put in at CB - against a very physical side
Maatsen 7 - solid
Cork 6 - the whole midfield struggled today
Cullen 6 ditto
Brownhill 6 - ditto
Gudmundsson 6 - not a game for buddy today
Tella 7 - tireless but on a pitch like that ultimately frustrating
Barnes 8 - pitch and game made for him today

Subs:
Zaroury 7 - looked lively , tactically resubbed
Vitinho 7 - made a couple of significant impact
Foster - NA put on last 6 mins to chase down

Think they must have shown a different game in US. A poor game by two poor teams on a poor pitch with a poor ref. We won and got 3 points but no idea where the rights and nines are coming from

Plenty of effort from us but we never mastered the pitch or the opposition

Muric 7 Safe hands today. Not able to get too involved in midfield today!
Roberts 6 Pegged back by Bell.
Ekdal 8* Safe and solid like a Volvo
Taylor 7 Some great blocks.
Maatsen 7 Much better than Tuesday.
Cork 6 Solid
Cullen 6 Some really good moments and some uncharacteristically sloppy ones. Not given time on the ball to settle.
Brownhill 5 A bit off today.
Gudmundsson 6 A good free kick. Otherwise not give much room to exploit
Tella 5 Below his usual standards today. Hope he isn't injured too badly.
Barnes 7 A typical Bashley performance. He's a fighter and almost willed us to win today.

Subs:
Zaroury 6 Some great touches, but needs to chase back.
Vitinho 7 Added a lot when he came on.
Foster N/A has some hustle about him.

From tv so just a couple of comments.
Muric, had his best game of the season 8
Ekdal, quality from start to finish 9 MOM
Taylor, excellent defending but worrying on the ball 8
Cullen, poorest game all year. I can’t believe some of the scores he has garnered. 5

A win is a win. Take the points and move on.

He has developed in an absolutely unbelievable way. We bought him from our rivals in the beginning of january 2021 for <50k pounds. He was the fifth choice for their central defence and basically had no chance of getting any playtime, which is why our rivals agreed to selling him to us. In a year he became our most important player and even got to debut for the Swedish national team. Now he is performing for you guys and will almost definitely be playing in the Prem. Unbelievable

Absolutely love the way Kompany rotates his squad and keeps everyone happy, they all seem to buy in to it and drop in perfectly when needed.
That is the definition of a top top manager

Another one who watched on-screen (Thanks Buxton) so my two-pennorth:
I thought Muric, Ekdal and Cork were superb, but my MOM with a ten was Connor Roberts; his play was only worth a seven, but the moustache's gone so he scores three extra for getting rid of that.

Thanks for that DIF. All the plaudits he’s had so far are fully deserved- he looks a real player. Comes across so well in his interviews too- very level headed but a real determination about him.

Scruffy 3 points but well worth it. What an awful ground, surely if hey got through the play-offs they would need to make major changes

Muric 8-very good distribution and good handling
Roberts 7, thought his distribution was good
Elkdar 8, very calm performance
Taylor 8 , thought he was outstanding defensively against big physical side
Maatsen 7-good defensively, saw little of his attacking play
Brownhill 7
Cork 7
Cullen 7
Tella 6 -looked lightweight against their defenders
Barnes 8-we needed him today against this big team and he played well
JBG 6 -did not get into the game
Zarourry 7-our most skillfull player when he came on
Vitinho 7- got us the pen

From tv
Muric 8 he did very well in a tough game physically for all our defenders.
Roberts 7 kept busy as a defender so not much chance to get forward.
Ekdal 8* how this guy has come from nowhere in Sweden to play like a top centre back in the English game is amazing.
Taylor 8 difficult to chose a man of the match, but for me he was just behind Ekdal.
Maatsen 6 did okay ij a tough game for him.
Cullen 6 our midfield went missing today though it was understandable.
Cork 7 best of our midfield today.
Brownhill 6 silly yellow card in an average midfield performance.
JBG 6 misplaced passes and never got going.
Barnes 7 today was a game for battlers and he battled for the team.
Tella 6 worked very hard against a defence of giants, but no much happened.
Zaroury 6 some touches of class in a game bereft of class.
Vitinho 7 made an impression when he came and did well for penalty.
That was tough. It was like playing against the Wimbledon crazy gang boys. The game will soon be forgotten but the three points are now in the history books.

From TV

Muric 6: Didn't have many saves to make but looked more comfortable in the air than usual.
Roberts 6: Did his job as a defender. Solid.
Ekdal 7: Just looks the business. Must just be me but he doesn't look taller than Charlie. However, a really good defender. Doesn't give his man a second before getting a tackle in.
Charlie 8: Top performance. Cool head. Excellent tackles. Great to see.
Maatsen 6: Had to defend more than he would have liked. Did what was required.
Cullen 7: I thought he had a decent game. Gets through a hell of a lot of work. I don't know if he's got the pace to play PL but it will be interesting to see.
Jack 6: Did what was required. Had to dig in deep.
Brownhill 6: Never really got into the game. Worked hard but very little attacking threat.
JBG 5: Not involved much today.
Barnsey 7: Defenders must hate playing against him the way he's playing right now. Pressure penalty but away with class.
Tella 6: Didn't really get chance to run at them. Hope his injury isn't serious.

Annas 6: Not a great cameo but it was tough for everybody today.

Vitinho 6: Gave us some impetus. I think Josh C. was offside but in any case the run and cross was good but it would have needed a super finish to put it away.

We had to really battle today. They were the best team in the first-half. They stopped us from playing but we stood tall, dug in and got an excellent win.

Thought we were superb against a very good physical side, possibly the win of the season so far.
I get what you're saying and that's definitely one way of looking at it. I do agree we stood up to a very physical (but largely fair) challenge extremely well. Luton were playing to their strengths. They knew they couldn't out football us, but they could definitely hassle us constantly, give us no real space, bombard us with long balls and set pieces, win the aeriel battles and pounce on the second ball and we struggled to be our free flowing selves and we didn't create much or look like the side we know we are. At 75 minutes I wanted to take the scrappy 0-0 and run. To get all 3 points was at that stage beyond my wildest dreams.

Tough old game, great ground - absolute shithole, but a right throwback. Loved it and glad to have visited before it goes. We always find a way don’t we!

Muric - 8 - He had little to do today but after the other night this looked a tough one knowing how Luton would bombard him. I felt he was great.

Muric - 8 - bounced back from the other night perfectly.
Roberts - 8 - up and down the right all day, dealt with what they threw at him defensively.
Ekdal - 9 - MOM - Dealt with Adebayo perfectly in first 10 and won majority in the air.
Taylor - 8 - Again, dealt with their front two particularly well, arguably his best game at CB for us.
Maatsen - 7 - Plenty of energy up and down without doing too much.
Cullen - 7 - Not as influential as normal but put that down to Luton's relentless press.
Cork - 7 - Does most things right, great to have in this league.
Tella - 7 - Unlucky to go off injured, kept going throughout.
Brownhill - 7 - Silly booking, worked hard but didn't do much.
JBG - 6 - Wasn't in the game much and subsequently came off early.
Barnes - 8 - Better than his midweek antics, +1 for the goal.

Zaroury - 6 - Didn't do much.
Vitinho - 7 - Could have had a goal or two in a different game, won the penalty, did well.

Luton shown on 2 occasions this season that they'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. A different battle to we're used to seeing at this level and I'm glad we managed to get the 3 points.
