Do you irrationally like/dislike any other teams?

There are the obvious ones to dislike - Leeds, Blackburn etc. but I was thinking earlier whilst searching, as I frequently do, for the latest Grimsby Town highlights, that there is no good reason I can think of why I have a strange affinity for them. I've only once in my life eaten a battered Mars Bar and that was from a chippy near Blundell Park when the Clarets were playing up there once but I don't think that can really explain it.
Similarly, I like to see Millwall and Norwich City doing well and always keep an eye out for Leyton Orient for no good reason.
On the other hand, I have a real dislike for Reading and Leicester City though they've never done me any harm and always get that 'mini fist pump' feeling when I see they've lost.
Strange innit, but it can't just be me.

Everton and Liverpool for me..just find the sense of entitlement sticks in my throat, and the whole "we're not English" stuff..

Even more strange because I've had some brilliant stays in the city and love going for nights out..

I used to like Grimsby, until leaving one time finding skips of half bricks waiting as we were pushed along the road away from the stadium… we got to explore the back ginnels and allotments, knowing that anyone coming the other way would have to either be swept along or gone through… it wasn’t nice for those with parents and children to protect.

I've only a lack of tolerance for the familiar few, mainly because of local rivalry. Rovers are a bit of exception as I used to have a very good friend who supported them, sadly no longer with us, and for a while we watched games at Ewood and Turf Moor on alternate weeks. I don't wish them the death knell, I just want us to be better than them and above them.

I've been verbally abused in Manchester whilst shopping, I had my colours on that day, probably a Stockport fan I would assume, so that's one club I have no time for. And I guess more recently the views of those Coventry fans rubbed me up the wrong way, so yeh, Stockport and Coventry at the moment 😁

That said the video of them singing F-off Burnley then falling silent as we scored is the funniest thing I've seen in ages 👌

I will never respect MK Dons.

They will never be a proper football club in my opinion. I genuinely hope they go bust on day, their fans won't miss them because they are not proper football supporters anyway. I wouldnt even wish that on them lot down the road.

Most of my pet hates have been left in our wake in recent years and the memories are dimming.

Mansfield was usually a bit dodgy, mainly South Yorkshire police; but not a pleasant away day.
Barnsley similar but not as aggressive.

But the one that sticks in the mind is Brighton, despised Foster…. And going to the Goldstone Ground to watch us be abject, be treated like we’d escaped from a zoo and needed containing, being held back an hour and then getting back after last orders… all on a Boxing Day(it ended 3-0) hated Brighton ever since.

For some odd reason, I've had a liking for Bristol Rovers for a while now, ever since we played them down there in the Nineties. Think they were on Twerton Park then.
Got talking to some of their fans and they were good lads and very complimentary about us and our history.
Always watch out for their results.
Kinda strange, because they play in blue and white and are called Rovers. :(

All very odd, these likes/dislikes.

I’ve also got a soft spot for Brissle Rovers, think it was the unusual kit and the fact Bristol City were then streets ahead of them, when I was a nipper. Gerry Gow was a hero at the time, couldn’t believe it was the same player that later turned up at the Turf , he’d always looked an old man, but by the time we signed him he played like one too. I also liked the fact they were the ‘pirates’ as a kid.

Weeds, once went to Reading for a midweek match in the 70’s. On returning home my Dad had painted my bedroom in their colours. Refused to sleep in it. Poor man had to repaint it.
Oh the joys of youth 😁😁

Dislike Spurs with a passion.

The reason I am a Burnley fan despite being Hertfordshire born and bred is the 1962 F.A.Cup Final. Elder brother was 11/12 and I was 7, he liked Burnley because he'd seen the colours in a magazine so wanted them to win. I recall seeing him "upset" when Burnley lost and immediately hated Spurs and we became Burnley fans. We went to Arsenal v Burnley in May 1963 and we beat the gooners 3-2 in my first proper game and it has gone on since then.

I'm not normally one to hold a grudge but with Spurs I make the exception!!

Our Geography was a little lacking at that time!! :) :)

Just despise them

Any of the big clubs and their plastic fans. Having lived in Hong Kong I can see the point of view of people over there supporting United or Arsenal much more than someone from Slough wearing a Liverpool shirt. They're on telly a lot, the Hong Kong Premier League is great but is probably non-league standard. In the UK though, where the pyramid system has such a depth of quality and entertainment, I just don't get why you wouldn't support your local side other than some strong family ties.

Newcastle. Remember their fans being arrogant and unfriendly in the cricket club, especially compared to Sunderland fans who are great. Also know a few 'massive' Newcastle 'fans' who regularly go to one game a season when they play a North west team.
Spurs. For dumping us out of the league cup semi finals.
Brighton. For being arrogant, horrible and condensing to us due to us being promotion rivals.
Crystal Palace. Their fans are like an irritating scout group who've had too much sugar. Irritating drum and 'ultra' support at home. Seen some excellent games against them tbf.
Luton. Horrible town, horrible fans, horrible footballing team.
Coventry. Pride themselves on being obnoxious.

I dislike all the so called "big 6" and yet always had a soft spot for Man City back in the days when they were the poor relations to Utd, but they had proper local fans who followed the club religiously despite the fact that it would probably have been far easier to just be a Utd fan. They were a proper club and something of an underdog. Now City are just as bad as the rest of that "entitled" group, if not actually worse unfortunately. I've always had random soft spots for Plymouth, Millwall, Notts County and Bristol Rovers, but never when they've been playing us. Bristol Rovers goes back a long way, so it's nothing to do with Joey B. All those clubs have great support and Plymouth and Millwall in particular would be huge in the PL. I loathed Wimbledon with a passion after attending THAT match in 1975, but after they were stitched up with the MK fiasco and almost shoved into extinction, I have always rooted for them and for their extremely loyal fans.

I used to have an irrational dislike of every other club but I have mellowed with age….

Fulham…goes back to MacDonald and the early 80s when he was manager

Newcastle ….goes back to MacDonald and the mid 70s when he was a player there

Swindon. 85/86 …they lobbed bits of concrete at us when they were top of the league and on a record breaking run of home wins

Oxford 83/84 coining of Hansbury

Birmingham City…utterly pointless club

Dislike :-

Liverpool - always the victim, self entitlement. Went there in corporate for a good number of years taking customers . Always found the fans to be pretty clueless about football. Maybe more the corporate norm. But surprised me non the less.

Man Utd - as above without the always the victim bit

Leeds - all of the above and just an ugly soul of a place.

Likes :-

Newcastle after the fa cup semi final defeat as a young 10 year old or so, always remember an elderly geordie comforting me as id got separated from my dad. And staying with me till my dad found me. A real gent.

Accrington Stanley. - go on from time to time keeps football real, and a good barometer for how good we are now.

Clearly not just me then!
It's a good thread this, some good tales to read.
I was once parked up outside the Bescot Stadium on my own in my van wearing a Burnley shirt after working that day in Birmingham when this big bloke came over and tapped on the window. I thought to myself "this looks like trouble....." so wound the window down about 1/4" and the guy said in that broad midlands accent "do you want to join us for a pint in The Saddlers Bar?" so I did and so I've always had a soft spot for Walsall after that. I can't just recall when it was, but they had Don Goodman up front.

Just checked and it was Tuesday 5th March 2002 and we lost 1-0. So, no, not 10 but 38!

I also quite like Bristol Rovers and I think it's the unique strip, the 'Pirates' nickname, the fact that a bit of Twerton Park used to stick over the motorway and the underdogs in a big city tag.
That said, I have a good mate who is a big Bristol City fan so I have to keep that a secret as, to put it mildly, he's not a big fan of them himself.

It was Eastville which was close to the M32. Twerton Park is a few miles from the nearest motorway

Dislike Arsenal, mostly because of a really annoying kid at my school who supported them.

Like Chelsea (despite what they are) due to growing up in west London and with fans in family, and Ajax due to having now spent nearly half my life in Amsterdam (in fact, you can also add Feyenoord to the dislike list because of this) :-D
