Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
So good looking at the table right now, and game by game see us move up in the cant possibly less than league position until (hopefully) that position is 1st.
Currently on 73 points with 13 to play and can't possibly finish less than League Position 22nd

Correct and it’s all on the magic numbers thread.

Currently on 76 points with 12 to play and can't possibly finish less than League Position 18th.

We can't possibly finish less than 1st.

Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
I've done the calculations like Mr Riley and its a stone cold mathematical certainty that we finish 1st

Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
On basis of the fact that every team underneath us cannot win every game (because they're playing each other) I think you'll find that league position will be much higher. We'd need some kind of super computer to work that one out though

The fabled Supercomputer (which is definitely not a work experience kid at a desk) has predicted we will finish 1st and on 98 points.

For those who want more info on what a Supercomputer is, it's very much like a regular computer but more superer.
I'm not linking to the clickbait article tho.

Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
15th the worst we could now finish apparently.
Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
Probably right. Some computers are superer than others. Mine doesn't take account of who plays who!
Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
Could be right. I guess it's not as simple as going with how many points Hull in 16th can get (78) as teams have to play each other. They could get 78 but that would take a potential 3 points off teams between them and us who they'd be beating along the way. You'd need a program to mathematically check the remaining fixtures.
Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
This is all very interesting ... but every team below us "cannot win every game" as they play each other
we are going to be Champions folks, we know that because it was in Rileybobs tea leaves

Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
With 24 teams to play 12 (13 in some cases) matches there must be millions of combinations in terms of results.
Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
Yep get all the permutations but that gives me a headache, so pub reckoning after a match will do for me until we get to the point of 1st. We jumped 4 spots after 1 game.
what a time it is to be a Claret.

Guys we are 1/100 on with the bookies for a reason.

So we can get (450 + 76) 526 points if we win all our remaining matches. I think I'm right in saying that would make us top, although Sheffield United do have a game in hand.
Who needs a supercomputer.

Where's that Hurstwood guy that said B'burn would finish ahead of us on 98 pts?

I imagine it to be the size of a house, but the bit that does anything is in a matchbox inside it. Like the Wizard of Oz.

Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
I wrote a betting prediction program some years ago
It loaded a league table for each division, scanned all the data and analysed recent home/away performances
Also took into account goals scored, league position etc then came up with a likelihood of victory for the next match.
Ran it all on my "super" work desktop and it took about 15 seconds on what was a very slow computer compared to today's standards. Most of the time was taken up with waiting for the web pages to load.
All this talk of "super computers" in the media is absolute tosh, it's just some bloke with a laptop

Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
I did the supercomputing yesterday. It involved a piece of paper and a pencil pulled from behind my ear. It's all here:

Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
I think 15th is right. Stoke only have Bristol City to play of the sides a few points above them, so if you start with them as one of the sides that manage it, then it's easy to get Preston and Bristol City above us using gd. However, by that stage points have to come off the other 3, who pretty much have to play each other. 1 of hull, Swansea, Reading could also get passed us, but to get two of those 3 past us, you'd lose one of bristol City or Preston.
All a bit silly really. Even more unlikely than that "Blackburn finishing on 90 points" - and that's impossible. They could finish on 89 or 91 points, but not 90.

Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
I know there are lots of permutations that effect this either way but fag packet reckoning
Currently on 77 points with 11 to play and can't possibly finish less than League Position 16th.

It's higher than that. The teams in 14th and 15th could get 80 but they have to play each other.

Lowest is now 14th apparently.
Re: Can't possibly finish less than ## league position
I'll be honest, I can't be arsed looking it up - but since the Championship was formed, what is the lowest a team on 77 points has finished?
