MacBook’s

Hi all. I’m thinking about getting a MacBook Air M2. I’ve always had windows laptops but they always end up really slow. I like apple devices and think it makes sense to get another but was wondering about the pro’s and con’s of them as a laptop.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

The M2s are great.
MacBooks are expensive, but they are better. If you compare the raw specs, you'll not appreciate that because the beauty of the Apple ecosystem is that Apple supplies both the hardware and software, so the software can do a lot more with seemingly less hardware.
I've been in IT for 25 years and it was only recently that I swapped my personal Windows laptop with a MacBook. I wouldn't go back at this point.
One note: most casual users suffice with a MacBook Air (M2). Unless you're doing rendering, video editing or gaming, you don't need a MacBook Pro (probably)

Agree, have MacBook for home use, still lumbered with a Windows laptop for work though - you can really tell the difference.

I have an iMac, and have had a MacBook Pro in the past. Lightyears ahead of windows machines.
Decent resale value too, I got £250 for my MacBook when I sold it in 2019, 8 years after I bought it.

If you get an M2 it will last you 10 years easy at this point.
Brilliant machines, no faffing - haven’t looked back since I made the switch around 12 years ago

It probably does depend on what you need it for. I've got the 27" screen iMac for processing music software, and to be honest, I couldn't cope without it. I bought this one brand new as soon as I realised they'd stopped making them, got my original for spares.

Just get one - it’ll change your computing life - for the better. I’ve used Macs for more decades than I care to remember and they just work.

Another point to note: the batteries don't die spectacularly after a year like Windows laptops. At least, mine don't.

I'm writing my response on one.
Very good laptops and nothing but good things to say about it.
I replaced my macbook 2015 a few months ago which was still going ok 8 years later. The only reason I replaced it was because the keyboard on the 2015 were notoriously poor design. Pleased to say no such issues on the m2 macbook.

make sure it has the software you need, companies are way behind when it comes to MAC compatibility with things like music production

Thanks everyone. I think I'll go for it. I don't need it for anything too technical but I like the fact that they're quick and last a long time.

Agreed, I've got the 27" too, use it for Affinity Designer and Photo a lot. It's superb, handles so many tasks without fuss

They do work and last for ages and are much quicker. The issues is that you need to adapt to the Apple system which takes a bit of getting use to. That being said I have a surface at work and that is very good too

I’m a windows guy. An IT windows guy. I’m seriously considering an iMac as my next home use purchase for some of the reasons posted above. Reliability and security are the main issues for me, and it would be for office apps, photos and videos (editing and manipulation etc) and browsing the web. I don’t play games on my PC anymore, and I want something built to last, hence considering the option.
