Flying Scotsman can be seen on the East Lancs Railway in March and on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in May.

Why did they change its number from "4472" to "60103"

I still think 4472 is the iconic number ... when I was little I had a wooden jigsaw with the Flying Scotsman on it and it was 4472 not 60103

Rant over 🤭🤭🤭

Interesting detail of its numbering, however fails to address the last renumber.

To me it looks like a date but not info.

Update:

In 1924, all LNER locomotives were renumbered and Flying Scotsman was given a new number, the iconic 4472. In 1946 it was briefly renumbered 502 for just five months before settling as the 103 till 1948. In 1948 it was then renumbered the 60103 which is the number it carries today.

Happy Birthday !
In the absence of Beamish .

Ps it’s now a fashionista joint with £10 pints.. though at least you don’t come home smelling like you’ve been in a Victorian brothel .

First to officially do a ton, some would say City of Truro did it first.

Love the Scotsman but it's the second best steam engine after Mallard.

I always preferred the look of the Brittannia class locos.

Saw 70000 a good few times.

Mine from Manchester Road this evening, it was bloody cold, but when she came through slowly (we asked the driver to slow for us (he lives in Brierfield) Mick did the honour) it warmed us all up seeing this famous engine in Burnley on her 100th Birthday.

saw the flying scotsman on thursday evening in Beattock dumfriesshire on its way up to Edinburgh.....it stopped in the Beattock sidings waiting
for the Glasgow /London express to come rattaling through,so was about 20 minites waiting to progress, beautiful old engine.
Its been to u s a ...then on to Australia, then on coming back home had £2 .5 million spent on a refit.so she an expensive old gal but we all love her.
As she set off from her pause at Beattock to tackle the steep incline to the summit the driver gave us three blasts on the whisle as we waved her on her
way....hope there is another hundred years in her.....HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY

Pretty close? Remarkable...We must have been sharing the same camera! :-)

I was the guy with white hair, stood by myself on the path. There was a small group with kids just in front of me,then a guy in a green jacket in front of them.
Then there was a group just behind me. i reckon, from the positions of the folk on the platform relative to camera positions, you were in that bunch?
Anyway,it was well worth turning out in the old for.

I was there very early and me and Dave were the ones nearest to the top of the slope. It was a good atmosphere around there last night, and two lads and a young lady were off to a club, and gave us some beers when they got off the train :D
