Berlin stag do help

Post by Marney neyMar » Mon Feb 27, 2023 6:47 pm

Am organising a stag do to Berlin later in the year.
Looking for some advice from anyone who knows the city well - best areas to stay, areas with the best night life, places to avoid etc?
Can anyone on here help to share some thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks!

Tough city for stag dos. A lot of places get snotty with groups of English men.
Great place though. We hired a beer bike, a mobile bar everyone pedals while seeing the sights.
Kreuzberg was a good area for bars last time I went but that was with wife.
Perhaps an organised pub crawl may be a consideration too.
If you are into electronic music, Tresor is a great club.
Anywhere is reasonable to stay within the city as public transport is superb.

Go out of tourist season. Block book the open top city tour bus. Bribe the driver and guide lass and request the best bierhaus’s , flesh pots and crack dens.

Organised a stag do some years ago. Had a great time, but as another poster recommends, I would do an organised bar crawl at least the first night. It’s a big sprawling city and so we were glad to be taken around to get our bearings.

Definitely agree with the recommended beer bike - just make sure at least 2 of you can pass a breathalyser test!

As mentioned above, it’s a bit difficult for stag dos - the main clubs like Berghain and Tresor are notoriously picky at the best of times, a group of boisterous lads will have no chance. There’s loads of great bars in Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg though. Again as above, an organised bar crawl may work best.

Not many stag dos head to Berghain or Tresor! Allowed in or not 😂

As mentioned it's a great city but very spread out. Hackescher Market and Oranienburger are drinking areas but it's been a while since we visited.

Sack whoever picked there, and go elsewhere is the only tip you need

Very bad place for a stag do compared to the alternatives

The venue has been set so no changing now. But will make the best of it with some research into where best to go.
Thanks to those who have shared thoughts & recommendations of areas to look into.

It’s absolutely fine for a stag do, as long as you’re not a nuisance and in fancy dress.

Our Stag do went to Tresor. Turned away from Watergate the night before so split into smaller groups. Think the basement room scared most...

Weird trip for a stag do when we went - we ended up visiting a few of the sites around the centre etc.

Found a little techno club in Hamburger Platz called Kosmonaut that was decent …. Found there wasn’t a big stag/drinking culture like other places have that makes a stag do there a laugh.

Stayed in the Melia when best man at a stag do and we did a variety of things including a night drinking north of the river which from memory was a bit more trendy and local not tourist.

I wouldn’t neglect the cultural stuff either. We did a lot of drinking but also did the Holocaust Museum which was grim but felt essential, and did some walking in the old district where all the bullet holes from 1945 were still in the walls. The western bit was a lot nicer than the old Soviet bit.

Why do you need to go all the way to Berlin when all you’ll probably do is drink all day/night in a pub. Find a nice country pub locally and save yourself a fortune. Plus it helps our local economy.

The other weekend, I went to Hamburg. (Great city.) Early flight from Manchester so there was a stag do or five on board. All in the usual fancy dress and to be honest as good as gold during the flight. Anyway, on the train from the airport into Hamburg city centre, a local got on asking for directions. Who did they ask? Out of everyone on that train? Michael Jackson. Some bloke from Manchester half cut at 10am in a city they'd never been to before, dressed as Thriller Michael Jackson. Best bit was when one of his mates said "show-mone him where to go!"

Don't go to Frankfurt. Even worse.

Whatever happened to going down the road for a drink?

We got a bit lost in Berlin. Struggled to find bars and got turned down at all the main clubs (group of lads). But did also quite like the city. Weird one.

If my stag do was organised and it was no different to what I did most weekends, I would be disappointed.

I suppose it is based on your thoughts of the value of a stag night. MIne was a long, long time ago!

On the bright side it’s a fairly new city, as most of it is less than 80 years old. Also, I t’s a fairly big city so make sure you get on the right train, and if you get the choice, have a bath. I’ve been many times, and never really had a bad night out there, lots of bad mornings but the nights are good.

If you’re still there on a Sunday, don’t expect much too much to be open other than perhaps some bars and restaurants (possibly all you’ll want on a stag do).

The place is dead due to a Sunday trading law. The Sunday was our last day and it was a bit of a drag, having had more than our fill of booze the previous few days.

The tour buses were running which were decent enough - the usual hop on hop off affair, reasonably priced and a good way to see the city, if you do want to kill some time.

It’s a decent city, though perhaps one that you’d benefit more from knowing quite well to really get the most out of it, unlike the smaller more compact stag destinations such as Prague.

We found the locals to be pretty friendly and helpful.

Can recommend the beer bikes but can get a bit hair raising on some of the busy roads and roundabouts. James Simon Park by the river with bars and cafes also worth a visit.

I'm frankly amazed why anyone would want a stag do in Berlin?

Brilliant destination.

We had a great early evening rubbing shoulders with locals in Clash Bar (said to be one of David Bowie's hangouts). Wouldn't think you'd have any issues in a group there bit I can't be sure.

I really liked Mitte as an area but had boutique/smaller hangout feel so may not suit larger groups.

Been a few times in recently summers as group of lads (stag and stag reunions!).

The clubs are mainly out of bounds unless you’re smart and split into smaller groups before arriving.

But to echo a few people, we’ve always found Kreuzberg pretty decent (bit of a student-y area so used to groups).

The Hofbrau Huis near Alexanderplatz is decent for groups - good scran, steins of beer and plenty of fun. No singing and swinging on the benches after 9pm if I remember rightly - we were asked to leave after going through our repertoire of homages to 1990s/early 2000 Clarets!

And I think someone else mentioned it but James Simon Park next to the river is pretty decent for daytime relaxing with a few drinks. We watched some of the 2018 WC down there on the screens.

Final tip from me - Berliner Republik is quite good fun. Food is decent and after 5pm they operate a stock exchange system where the price of the 18 draught beers goes up and down depending on what’s selling/not selling. Gets busy and decent atmosphere.
