Can I have your shirt?

Anyone else think the shirt request signs are getting a bit much?

There were three or four kiddies in my general vicinity holding signs up throughout the match on Saturday. It's not like the players read them during the game, or will toss their shirt into the crowd when flagged offside.

Three times I - very politely - asked a young lads dad if he could stop holding the sign up as I was sat right behind him and it was obstructing my view. He was nice enough about it, but I thought once would be enough. (I felt a bit bad for him when he didn't get a shirt tbh).

I get it's a nice gesture of the players to engage with the younger crowd and give them a nice souvenir - as long as it doesn't just end up on ebay - but maybe wave the signs around as they players come on and off the pitch rather than during the match.

What do you think? Am I just being too grumpy?

Should be an area they can go after game for 10 mins
Or go and wait for players to arrive

bit grumpy mate.

they are just having fun. if it gets them into the club as future fans then its great.

its just one of the parts of the modern game.

my girls have done it from time to time and have been successful

If players give shirts, it will continue to happen
Can’t say it bothers me in the slightest, but I sit in the top tier so it’s unlikely to block my view 😂

Set fire to the signs.

Only way they will learn.

Sounds great but for every fan that gets one how many will be left disappointed. Kids feel it more than adults.

I was disappointed to see Twine ask for Christian Eriksen's shirt at Old Trafford.

I fair love it when a player runs up to a kid holding that sign and gives it to another kid next to them 😅😂

Wouldn’t be surprised if most end up on eBay

It’s the latest fad that loses it’s meaning once everyone jumps on the bandwagon. 1 kid that randomly takes a sign and gets a shirt is nice, but now it’s at every game, it ain’t.

File under

Minutes applauses
Kids running up to players on the pitch

Its harmless, and if it makes a kids dream come true, then what on earth is wrong with it?

Honestly lads, is there anything some of you won't moan about?

Appalling thing. Ladt person that should get a shirt is a kid with a sign and their parent next to them!

Begging and moral blackmail in one hit!

I wish they'd stop selling both Benny & Bovril on the turf, both the things stink to high heaven & reminicent of Rab C Nesbitts armpits.

however, i understand people like it, so i dont let it play on my mind.

move on, get a grip, grow up.

some folk wont be happy until football is actually played in a library.

We went Arsenal in that Coyle Season and we took our seats in the Emirates... about 10 mins before KO a group of folk came and sat down behind us ... Obviously a few shandies had been imbibed ... one of the ladies (would have said she was in late 30's early 40's) tapped me me on the shoulder and said "I want to apologise now for any swearing" ... we all had a good laugh ... then one of her friends said "ere Mary you going to get yer t*ts out again if we win" ... "No ... I only do that at Wembley"

So you are ruling Mary out of being the woman above?

Did you ask to change seats? To the row behind her?

It's not, as previously mentioned, if it's spoiling someone's view of the game.

Not grumpy at all OP, why spoil it for others, display the sign at ok moments, ie just before half-time and right at the end of the game, mind you, I’m well grumpy.

It didn't used to be too bad, with the odd one or two, but now it's a bit of a pain as there are quite a lot. Makes it hard work to get to your seat at the start of the game and even worse when you are trying to leave at the end.

It would be funny if one of the sign holding kids caught a shirt, then lobbed it right back shouting - yer could have washed it first!

I was standing next to two guys at Millwall who weren't wearing any shirts at all, so I guess they could use a sign and hopefully a shirt donation as they were probably freezing, the poor souls.

Far bigger problems in football than kids asking for players' shirts. Glad there's enough young people going to the Turf that we notice them asking for shirts to be honest.
