Hope they avoid liquidation, not a bad little club.

It's a club that's anything but 'not a bad little club' now with fans at war with the owner Ron Martin. There has been real concern that the club could go under.

Another club who have rapidly fallen down the leagues, it wasn't that long ago they were pushing for promotion to the Championship.

Sadly not the first time they've encountered financial issues in recent years, hope they can come out the other side and survive.

I do wonder how many other lower league clubs will face similar difficulties.

They actually made it to the Championship for one season.

Less said about our results against them that season.

Remember Freddy Eastwood being lethal for a period around the time they made it to the Championship.

He left at the end of that Championship season and played for Wolves and Coventry with little success at all, went back to Southend and did nothing. But for a while he was prolific for them as they climbed the leagues.

i remember going to Roots Hall and I think we were 3-0 down after about 25 mins

We were 2-0 down in the first few minutes in 1995 and did go 3-0 down in the second half before pulling one back.

He did - was manager there when we went in the John Bond season. It was when the dodgy Anton Johnson owned the club.

I lived in Southend when they were in the Championship. They were doing better than we were for sure. The story I heard was that Dave Webb went to see Ron Martin, who was and still is the chairman. He asked for funds to get the team over the line into the PL and was refused on the grounds that they couldn't afford to be in the PL, it would bankrupt them! Since then there have been on/off moves to build a new ground on the edge of the town as the plot they sit on is central and worth a few bob. Recently this has been scaled back, so it's all up in the air again. I have a soft spot for the club, they have some great supporters who have been treated badly for far too long. My son saw his first Burnley game there, needless to say we lost which was a regular event when we met in the lower leagues.

I remember Andy Payton planting one past Neville Southall when NS was on loan to Southend, in the late Eighties. Think we won 1-0.

Well remember a wonderful night there in May 82 when we clinched promotion. As now, we then had two full backs who scored regularly and they both scored that night. A few weeks before we had lost 3-5 at home to them in a truly bizarre game. 2-2 at half time and they were down to ten men but it all went Pete Tong in the 15 minutes after half time. Their stand out player at the time was Garry Nelson.

I remember my 2nd visit to Roots Hall (after the 4-1 victory in May 82) was on a freezing cold Friday night in January 1986. I had saveloy & chips from a chippy near the ground and we won 3-2. I think Alan Taylor scored and Richard Holden possibly made 1 of his rare 1st team appearances.

The 2-2 in 84 when Bobby Moore was manager was a typical away performance under Bond. We should have strolled it especially after taking the lead yet had to rely on a last minute Billy Hamilton goal to salvage a point

Richard Holden’s only appearance for us was at Orient at the end of the season when he came on as a sub. I think Andy Kilner made his first start for us that night.

Derek Spence, former Bury and NI striker was centre forward that night and probably had the greatest game of his life. He was untouchable in the second half. I'd seen him play many times for Bury but not like that.

Yep. Spence was a blond bombshell that night. He gave poor David Holt a torrid time

Judge dismissed the winding up application against SU
after hearing that the tax bill had been paid.

The court also heard that the club had "new money as working capital." (BBC)

So they live to fight another day...till next time.

Was it Southend we beat 5-1 at home that season when they borrowed our unlucky away kit? The jade and black one.

On the pitch Southend have a crucial “6 pointer” to try and secure a place in the playoffs versus Barnet on Friday night.

One of my worst nights of football was at Roots Hall. Think we conceded a late goal and lost 1-0. It was under Cotterill I believe. I actually left the game angry!

Really hope they survive.

Were they the team that came to Turf Moor and the ref insisted that they changed their strip? They didn't have one, so we lent them out green and black shirts. I think we then went on to beat them pretty heavily.

Be sad if they do get wound up.

I was there for that one and it was during Cotterill's awful run of games without a win. A bad pass back to the keeper cost us. There was a real risk after that game that we would go down thankfully it didn't cost us
