Absolutely - they played well defensively but didn’t have too much threat at all.

They played 2 games against table toppers Sheffield Wednesday only conceding 1 goal and are 1 of only 2 sides to come away from Plymouth with any points. It was never going to be an easy night.

Can see why they’ve kept 4 cleans sheets in a row. Very organised and worked extremely hard. That shape with a flat back 5 and 3 just infront of the centre backs makes life so difficult to play through. We looked better when Churlinov came on and offered more direct play from wide.

They made it damned difficult, thankfully we managed to find that vital goal to edge through.
Cup ties like this will never be easy but we won and are in the draw that's all that matters.

A real shame about the sending off. I thought it barely warranted a booking, but would have to see it again. From that point onwards they just wanted to defend to get to penalties.

"Spoilt the match"??
The game didn't change at all after the sending off, they just continued to defend as they had done prior to that.

If you didn't see a change in the match, then I'd suggest facing the pitch next time.

Thought they were superb. Especially when you consider they played with 10 men in the 2nd half. Fair play to 'em.

From the Bob Lord, I thought it was a red card. Cullen made a meal of it and certainly wasn’t caught on the head - you just can’t raise your knee going into a challenge as their player did.
The replays shown at half time didn’t change my view of the decision, although not the best of angles for a definitive conclusion.

I actually felt deflated for them when we scored.
You could see they were organised defensively during the first half but the second with 10 men was always going to be backs to the wall stuff with no real attacking chance great from them

Thats barmy! They offered no attacking intent at all throughout the whole of the first half, how on earth did that change in the second half.
They defended really well throughout and were unlucky to lose it in the final minute, but the match didn't change with the sending off. They were already playing with a back five and continued with exactly the same tactics in the second half.

I never said that it changed the match but spoilt it.
An already inferior team went down to ten men against a supposedly Premier League elect eleven.
To put it simply, that's a mismatch in favour of the already superior team.

I’m not sure what the love in is all about here, they defended well but offered less than nothing going forward. How anybody can describe them as magnificent or outstanding is beyond me.

Let's be honest we're runaway leaders in the championship and one of the best teams to ever play in it, and it took what was practically a goal mouth scramble in the dying minutes against 10 men to spare us embarrassment. Fair play for their efforts, they almost Burnleyed us.

They battled stoically with ten men very well, proper backs to the wall stuff. I give them full credit for managing not to concede against unrelenting pressure for so long. But we should really have beaten them out of sight. In truth, it was more about out our inability to score than their brilliant defending.
Agree that the red card was harsh.

I watched every season under Dyche, like I said, they defended well but offered nothing going forward. Not sure that I could describe them as magnificent. They wouldn’t have won that game if it was played until Christmas. Backs to the wall and defending, they did it well but when we played under Dyche we offered a glimmer of a threat occasionally, they didn’t

They were certainly very organised in defense and the Keeper was very assured. We were watching us being frustrated by a team doing what we did very well for quite a few seasons.
Credit to them.

Agree with the comment on defending but "they wanted it far more than us"? Really. There was only one team interested in attacking and therefore winning the game. The other team played 5 at the back, then a line of 3 defensive midfielders in front of that and after the sending off, a lone player a bit higher up the field. it was always going to take a scramble or a set piece to score as they basically sat 8 players plus a keeper who had the game of his life in the box whenever we went forwards. Which was for 90 minutes.

Tbf they played for that one set piece chance or failing that penalties right from the start, so obviously showed virtually no ambition beyond the half way line. I'm not knocking that in any way because when you look at where we are currently they'd have been crazy to try to attack us and be wide open. Their athleticism, organisation and defending was far better than many Championship sides we've played this season. Good luck to them. Also, I've only seen it once live at the game, but I did wonder if the sending off was rather harsh.

Agreed. And Cullen didn’t help them or the ref with his over reaction. I don’t like to see this from our players. Sadly over the past few weeks I have seen far too many “theatricals” from our players.

We could have played without a keeper. I honestly don't remember BPF having a shot to save or even a cross to catch. Fleetwood defended superbly but let's not pretend they ever had any ambition other than to take it to a penalty shoot-out even with 11 men.

How can you say that? They had a shot in the first half!
I'd have been worried if they'd got a corner when it was 0-0. I remember Lincoln. But apart from that, they weren't interested in scoring until we scored, and (like us against Lincoln) it didn't give them much time.

All very romantic and all that but the truth is Fleetwood offered nothing.
Sure they defended in numbers but there was no way they were ever going to score.
Even so we missed a hatful of chances, their keeper made some fine saves. They were lucky not to have at least three or four put past them.
