Pep: it’s Vinny’s destiny to manage Man City

"The consistency they are showing is unbelievable. They are close to being promoted; I am delighted to see his success.

"He will be back sooner or later. His destiny to be Man City boss is written in the stars. It is going to happen; I don't know when but it is going to happen. We have a chance to reach Wembley, we will compete against Vinny and his team."

Something we all knew months ago.

If so, it’s only good news for us. It means that 1. we’ll keep him for at least 2 more seasons (Pep signed a new 2 year deal recently I think) and 2. he will have had enough success with us for City to want him.

Better than that. He might turn down the chance to join a mid- to lower- PL team as he is waiting on the City job coming up.

If he stays for 2 more seasons and then moves on to City, you can't say fairer than that.
I just hope this isn't a one-off thing and that Pace already has a plan/idea of the sort of manager that VK can pass the baton on to. After all, it's Pace who did a great job of going out and bringing him here in the first place.

But why would he want to join City two years from now? They'll certainly be offloading Pep then, especially with City having finished below Burnley for a second season in the EPL and having also got got beaten by us in the Champions league final; but Vinnie will surely want to stay with us for our world-club cup win and the upcoming quadruple winning season.

Another potential upside to this would be some loans of young City stars so he can develop them & build relationships before managing them at City?

Will we have moved to a new 50,000 all seater stadium in Crawshawbooth by then? ;)

I remember VK 1st interview where he genuinely did not know how long his contract was with us that he had signed !!!! if we get promoted presume we don't have to offer him a new improved deal as I presume it will be in his contract if we get promoted his salary will change accordingly ? Just picking up on a comment from this thread about VK potentially going straight to the city job from us, if Gerrard had stayed with Rangers for 5-6-7 years picking up "easy" silverware along the way in leagues or cups he possibly would have gone from Rangers straight to Liverpool but chose a "in between" job at Villa and we know how that went - all VK has to do with us is do a Dychy and keep us in the division season after season there will be "no pressure" and because of the budget "no realistic goals" - would that test him enough ?

Don’t reckon Pep needs to play mind games for beating a team he’s won 10 in a row against with an aggregate score of 34-1.

Aren't the Man City owners desperate to win the Champions League?

If Guardiola doesn't achieve that before he leaves wouldn't they most likely look for a manager with more European experience than VK?

So Trawden can dream on!!

The only mind games Pep plays are with himself in big games...tinkering...leaving his best players out of position or left out altogether....and absolutely fantastic manager but he over thinks the big games in the Champions League.

Highly likely.

Aside from uprooting his family and not needing any extra money, he won’t want to be at a new side for less than a year before moving on. At the very least he won’t want to do that to new young players.

The only issue if it City owners want him to have some European experience at a PL side first, but I suspect they will think he has been there done that as a player.

That's right. We need some optimism for the Cup match. :-)

Anyway, perhaps by the time VK is ready for the City job, City will be back down the bottom after their finances have been decimated from their alleged rule breaking.

Well it was said about Steve Gerrard and Liverpool when he was at Rangers and Frank Lampard actually got the job at Chelsea.

I'm sure VK will prove to be a better manager than those two but it's a long way to the top if you want to Rock n' roll.

Personally I think this a good thing

Pep is only saying what the rest of us are thinking

If they have earmarked VK for the City job they will want him to develop in an environment where he is allowed to build a club based on the City model - which I think buys us 2/3 years to maybe re-establish ourselves in the PL

I doubt it is part of anyone's longer term thinking that he takes an interim job at a 'bigger' purely results focussed club where he has to compromise his methods and risk getting sacked

It also means we can get our succession planning in place - because I'm sure VK takes his staff with him

This has the potential to be the the smoothest, most seamless managerial transition it's possible to achieve

1) Pep G has only made this statement because Burnley have been drawn against City in FA Cup. He's only saying "your manager can have my job when I'm finished with it" as a bit of gamesmanship ahead of the cup game. Managers/coaches aren't usually the ones who appoint their successor.

2) What's this about: "he might turn down the chance to join a mid- to lower- PL team?" Has everyone forgotten that Alan Pace and Vincent Kompany have set the target of Burnley getting into Europe again - I think it was 4 or 5 years time from last summer. Why would Vincent Kompany want to take a step backwards to join a "mid- to lower- PL team?

A world class operator speaking about a man that is destined to be one. Everyone on here says VK is destined for the City job so I don’t understand people taking offence at Pep acknowledging that.

Every man and his dog knows Kompany is nailed on for the City job at some stage, and we should take it as a compliment Pep also thinks this.

However whether VK would want to be the man following Pep is another matter, the obvious example is David Moyes succeeding Fergie at OT, and look how that ultimately ended.

If Vincent Kompany is going to get the gig at City he'll first need to show he can make Burnley a credible PL force, plus continue to play this passing football we're now renowned for.

I don’t think he is engaging in gamesmanship, and at City I bet he holds a lot of sway. As for the Europe thing, I aspire for us to win the Champion’s League, it doesn’t mean we will do it :D

I like and share your optimism though. But he will be here 3 more seasons max imho.

We all know that City will be his ultimate destination. If we can avoid him having a stepping stone between then and now, that would be a bonus (assuming he continues in this vein).

Perhaps time for a new lengthy contract with a significant release clause for him and his staff?

The appointment to replace VK will be really interesting when the time comes. Will we follow a similar model with an intelligent, up and coming young manager? VK could quite easily have been Frank Lampard with much less successful results!

It’s no more than a romantic idea Kompany one day managing Manchester City.
It would be unthinkable that he won’t be managing us in the PL next season and as such that is where our anticipation lies, not two seasons or more ahead.
Watching a Kompany Burnley playing good passing football and exciting us .

It's an inevitable thing to hear and for him to say - and I suspect he would jump at the chance (who wouldn't). Remember Steven Gerrard was touted as Klopp's successor and he left Rangers to manage Villa and now look - not a hope in hell he will manage Liverpool any time soon.

As long as the game on 18th isn't as nauseating as it was when we lost 5-0 and Joe Hart did everything but celebrate all 5 goals, then it's fair enough that they will wheel out the red carpet for him. The difference is, VK won't go all dewy-eyed and lap it all up and lose any semblance of pride in his own performance - I am sure he will be classy throughout.
