I’m sorry there has been a need to remove threads following Saturday’s incident in Blackpool.
It has now been confirmed that Tony Johnson has passed away following that incident outside The Manchester in Blackpool.
Can I please ask that you ensure any posts on this thread remain respectful and please, no comment on what might have happened given this is a police investigation.
My thoughts are with Tony’s family and friends and all those associated with Blackpool Football Club.

Condolences to family.
A death in a pub, following a football match is unacceptable.
Let's hope this sobers anyone with any confrontational thoughts, forever.

Desperately sad news. RIP Tony Johnson.
The authorities really need to get a grip on the hooliganism that is creeping back into our game. It has never been welcome, certainly not for 95% of supporters. Maybe a tragedy such as this will make people think twice in the future. I hope so as away days have gone from something I used to love to something I rarely even consider these days.

It's fine 99.5% of the time, if you just go to the game and come home, you'd be incredibly unfortunate to be involved in something like this. You're right though, hopefully it may push someone to stop and think about what they're getting involved with on these particular sort of away days.

Can't help but feel ashamed - headline news on the BBC website, after all the great things our team have done this season.
Never again please, go to away games to have a good time and enjoy the football.
Rest in peace Tony.

Tragic news, and as others have said and / or implied, hopefully a wake up call to many people.
Win or lose, the matchday experience (home or away) should be an enjoyable one for everyone, young or old, and as has been stated, everyone should always get home safely.
RIP Tony Johnson

It’s terribly sad news and my thoughts go out to this chaps close family and friends. It’s tragic.
However I don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed by what’s happened. I feel saddened.
Had things gone the other way we could well have been mourning the passing of a Burnley fan this morning. There is a real feel of “by the grace if God” about this.
It’s sad for those left behind and those who will be effected by this, including the person who threw the fatal punch, but I don’t accept it’s shameful and a stain on our club as the events could we have unfolded very differently.

A tragic loss of life - things like this should just not happen.
Whatever the reasons behind the incident, there is no justification for violence and no one should not return from going to support their team.
RIP Tony - my deepest condolences to all who knew him.

I'm not trying to get a response or wind people up or even get the topic closed but there is two sides to every story and a lot of people have already made their minds up without facts, once again my full condolences to the family but let's find out the truth before we jump on our own fan's

Got to agree with Agent_Claret here, people are far too quick to lay blame.
A terrible tragedy that shouldn’t see speculation one way or another.
Thank you, I sometimes don't always post in a way that is understood and its often gets taken the wrong way, I'm glad you see it in the way it was supposed to be written

Poor guy, I passed the pub by car around 7pm and there was blue tape all outside and a huge police presence, there was a white unmarked van on the pedestrian bit (towards the edge) outside and I thought something had mounted the pavement but obviously it turned out to be another tragic event. RIP and thoughts go towards the family and friends, booze on a football day or non football day causes so many injuries/deaths/domestics a very underrated disease/killer.

RIP Tony, no one should go to a match and not come home. Cant help but think this thread should be locked though. Comments about feeling ashamed don’t help as it prompts responses speculating on what happened. Two families will have their lives torn apart by this completely avoidable event.

Whatever the circumstances, this is very sad news. As others have said, there are now two families having to deal with the fallout from this and little bit of respect on social media would be appropriate. What don’t people understand about that?
