Been with BT for years but their price increase due in April is looking heavy. All we require is straightforward broadband. Seen that 3 is offering 150Mb (5G) at £20.00 per month over 2 years although they mention the usual increase in April. Anyone used them, any opinions, customer service etc. Just two of us old biddies, iPad each, hive for heating and a Wi-Fi alarm that’s it.Thanks in advance.

I'm on a rolling contract with TalkTalk. I'm waiting to see what prices are going to be in April and then either get a new contract or leave. Currently paying around £33 a month for 38 mbps which I imagine will one of the worst around.

I'm with 3 on the wireless broadband. Despite being in a good 5G area, I never get it (but I do on my phone), i lose connectivity on average twice per day and I don't get anywhere near the advertised download speed (not sure what it should be but i get about 25Mbps). I don't have a BT landline and I've just left virgin because I felt they were seriously ripping me off and providing very poor service. 3 is costing me £16 per month after a discount I got so I can put up with the downsides at that price. It's more than adequate for what I actually need

I've never had an issue with Virgin.
My contract is the 500meg, it's £38 per month for the broadband volt package. I do pay slightly less though as i get it subsidised from my Employer ( I pay £30 per month)

Most contracts, 1 or 2 years now have tiny print, allowing a mid-term increase. Bas*ardos!

Up until a month ago, I had a basic Sky package for nearly 4 years that started at £55 p/m.
I never did much checking on prices until I'd had more than enough, and then I broke down the different prices in the package.
The robbing g*ts were charging £44 for broadband.
My fault I know, for not checking but I've booted Sky now.

Look at cashback websites like top cashback as there can be some good deals.

Also don't pay for something you aren't going to use. If you 2 people with relative normal use - 150mb is probably excessive. Also you may not need unlimited downloads etc. If you can find out from BT what your monthly download is in terms of how many GB's you use, it may give you a better idea of what you need.

My brother in law rang BT this morning and told them he was going to give up, in favour of a cheaper offer. They gave him a deal paying less that his current one!

Just rang my brother in law, as legitimate questions asked.

2 year deal. Fixed for the first year, so no April increase.

Virgin Media have always been brilliant for me. I'm paying £35-ish a month for 250Mbps.

FYI anyone signing up to BT. Book an install/connection with them and give it about a week then call them back to cancel (you can do this upto 14 days after your services go live). You'll be put though to their loyalty/retentions/value team (i forget) and they'll try to keep you. Typically they'll make three offers of ever decreasing price (or more services for the same price) but just keep tentatively refusing until they say it's their best offer (usually after having to 'speak to a manager' which is not true, they have the offers on their screen). Then give it some fake thought and accept. Can usually save about 30-50% each month for something you wanted anyway.

Annoying as it is the best way to keep the cost down is two swap provider every couple of years as soon as your contract is up.
My last 72 months
Vodafone > John Lewis > Shell Energy

Money Saving Expert for the current best deals, customer mer service comparisons etc.
To be fair the switch overs are very smooth these days.

I've had no issues.
No dropouts, speed is at the top end of what they estimate in my area.

On Superfast Fiber Plus at about 75mb/s down, so can't speak for the Ultrafast 300mb+ or FullFiber 900mb+

The best way to change it is doing it through Quidco/TopCashBack etc every time your contract ends - you can find which deal you’d like and then get it through the cashback sites - we usually get about £80/100 back every time we swap … sometimes I will swap to the exact same package with a new customer discount and cashback by swapping the contract into my wife’s name and then back to mine when contract comes up just for the free £100 back via cashback sites.

Looking at changing my broadband provider as I am out of contract and the wifi is next to useless every day and nowhere near what is being claimed 65Mb/s- image shows a really good day as its usually 12 Mb/s download 5 Mb/s upload. I frequently go through changing channels to try and avoid heavy traffic channels in the area. I am limited in what I can get where I live - no Virgin ff. I am not a big user- just for web browsing ( not many downloads, no streaming, no gaming). Does any one have experience with a decent provider in an area with limited fibre ( fibre to junction box then old BT copper wire to house).

Also I have another need. I would like to pick up wifi signal from my brothers property ( with his obvious permission) about 80 metre across a road - rural location. Is there a system where I can piggy back onto his broadband router without laying a LAN between the houses?
