Sheff Utd fans meltdown

Twitter is absolutely full of blades fans having meltdowns. Puts this place to shame for over reactions. :D

Quite a few want the manager sacked after wasting a 4 point lead.
Some are suggesting they will miss out on the play offs altogether.

Will be hilarious when they miss out on auto and I wouldn’t fancy them in the playoffs either. I can see a Millwall or Luton doing the business in the play offs

Should say 14 point lead.

They have a point about Heckingbottom.
The man just lacks something, he looks like a rabbit stuck in the headlights, on the touchline.
SheffU fans have said, rather like Rovers, that their football has never been as good as their league position suggested. The odd good game, but lots where they had the rub of the green.
They are worried, as we would be in their shoes, because they can see it slipping away, and they know they can't do anything about it.

Sheff have Sunderland, Norwich and us away in their next 4. Fancy Boro will be at least level by the end of that.

You can never tell in football
Yesterday was a tough one as Luton do well away
This season seems to be one of several clubs putting a good run of games with lots of wins and then slipping away
Sheff U Norwich Sunderland Rovers WBA Watford spring to mind

Just watched their lowlights from yesterday.
Billy Sharp will get a 3 match ban for punching a Luton player to the floor. No yellow so it is reviewable.

Astonishing that Billy Sharp punch was missed. Should get a long ban.

Blades are doing a good job of Devon Loch-ing this. Doesn’t help when your experienced squad members are doing stuff like that.

Saw that too Trevor and he should get a retrospective ban (if its reported post match)

The could be out of an automatic place next weekend, while they are distracted by trying to get to an FA Cup semi.

Bastards could also find themselves out of the play offs.

I’d absolutely **** myself if Sheff Utd ended up in the lottery of the Playoffs. I can see it happening, too. Every chance of Middlesbrough catching them now.

Worth noting that Boro play before Sheff Utd in midweek so could put pressure on there….and then they have a game at home next weekend whereas Sheff Utd are obviously involved in the cup. So there is a chance Boro could be 2nd come this time next week or certainly within a point.

But weren't they running away with the league and people were saying that bookies should be paying out on them in October ?

Big trouble financially for them if they don’t go up too. I’d bloody love N’Diaye if they don’t follow us up.

Sheff Utd showing they are prime bottle jobs, and after their gloating in the Bonfire Night game it's karma to see their automatic hopes going up in smoke.

And unlike us the don't have the luxury of just enjoying FA Cup quarter final weekend.

Everybody is talking about Boro snatching that 2nd spot, however I wouldn't completely rule out Luton, after their victory at Bramall Lane they are now only 7 points behind a nervy Blades.

It's just pleasant as a Burnley fan to watch them all fighting it out while we coast to the title.

Like an extended version of the last game of ‘15/‘16, where we cruised to victory and the Championship at the Valley whilst the two teams, who’s fans a few weeks earlier were talking about a last game stitch-up to send us into the playoffs, we’re left to actually battle it out for the runners-up spot.

They may well do, however although Sheff Wed are strong favourites for promotion and probably the League 1 title due to their games in hand, the form of Ipswich and notably Barnsley is keeping them honest.

We need Sheffield United to go up automatically leaving Middlesbrough in the play offs otherwise I could quite feasibly see Bastards sneaking up via the play offs even though they’ve been largely garbage.

Bastards would have to finish in the top six first.

What they are moaning about is that they were 14 clear with a game in hand, so we can see their point.

I think they will blow it, they need us to win at Boro.

Their form is still patchy and it’s tight below them with teams showing good form. I would not be surprised if they finish just outside the playoffs.

So many teams (apart from us) put a great run of 3,4,5 games together and are suddenly in the midst of the play off picture and then immediately lose 4 on the spin and are just above half way. Sheff U could easily randomly change form and suddenly win 3 or 4. As others have said, nobody seems to really want it badly enough, but I think the more realistic explanation is nobody apart from us is really much good. There's absolutely no consistency.

Millwall's run in looks really easy. Lots of home games that look 3 points. West brom away, Luton home and f all else.

When Sheff U played Wrexham in the Cup there were many on here who were cheering Wrexham on. At the time I suggested that this was misguided, and that the further Sheffield went in the cup the more likely it was that:
a) We would pull further ahead of them
b) Middlesbrough could catch them - even though at the time Boro were a long way behind.
Sheff are under a transfer embargo and were unable to strengthen their squad, whilst Boro strengthened very well in January and have had less fixtures.
There's a fair chance that Boro could overtake them next weekend whilst Sheff U are tussling with our local rivals in the Cup.
Should Sheff U progress to the Cup semi final they may well find themselves relying on another Wembley appearance to gain promotion via the play-offs.
Beating Wrexham was pivotal to Sheffield's automatic promotion hopes (IMO), and not in a good way.

I’d rather Rovers win in the cup… destroys Sheff Utd confidence and distracts Rovers in the league - proper win-win that for me.

And we may beat City too and have an east Lancs date in the big smoke ;)

Beating Wrexham has resulted in Sheff Utd playing just one more fixture in which they fielded a second string team. I really don’t think that was pivotal to their automatic promotion hopes.

It was only a few shirt weeks ago Sheff Utd still harboured ambitions of catching us, well that's not happening.

13 points behind us.

And a mere 4 points ahead of a rampant Boro, who under Carrick are a different animal.

Sheff Utd have now lost 9 games which is more than Luton have this season, and their recent form is average at best.

Tellingly they've also lost to promotion rivals in Boro, Luton & Rovers. and their run in looks tougher than Boro's.

No wonder the Blades fans are fretting over their meltdown.

Whenever I have watched any of Sheffield U, they have never been a fluent, football side. More giants and try and overpower teams- largely successful but it doesn't lay a good foundation.

I suspect they will be overtaken by Middlesbrough and then struggle in the play offs.

Manager...who cares.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, why the wheels have come off for the Blades, but when they played Wrexham at the end of January, they had lost just once in 14 with 11 wins and 2 draws, and had 57 points from 28 games. (Over 2pts / game)
Since then they have 10 points from 8 league games, and they had very hard fought victories in the Cup replay against Wrexham, and against Spurs. It could be that their progress in the Cup is a complete coincidence, but there's no doubt that since the 3-3 draw at Wrexham their league form has been v poor.

Perhaps Blades players have eyes on cup glory and taken them off promotion .... whereas ours seem to have eyes on both 🤔

They don’t have the biggest of squads and have a lot of off-field issues.

I’m not sure if they have lost some players to injury or even fatigue during this period or simply just lost confidence.

Any time iv seen them iv never been impressed by them at all. Even during our 5-2 defeat we were the better side and just ran out of steam/ couldn’t defend agricultural balls into the box

I do find it quite amusing that they are capitulating. Makes the league more interesting aswell. We aren’t even in the conversation any more either which is even better.

Carrick is doing an amazing job at Boro, and in any other year he'd be a strong contender for the MOTS, however I sense Kompany will scoop that specific honour.
