Hopefully a calmer affair than last year.

Plenty of British and Irish interest with the likes of Colin Farrell and Bill Nighy up for best actor, and Martin McDonagh up for best director for Banshees.

Difficult to predict this year but I'd expect AQOTWF to pick up several awards, and probably best picture.

However I for one won't be burning the midnight oil to watch it.

I thought Banshees was a great little film. Good to see it is in with a real chance at some awards. Deserves to win.

Haven't seem it myself yet, but the responses I've seen are mixed, so it does appear to be one you either love or hate judging by your personal tastes.

Watched the Banshees the other night, some excellent acting performances but not sure about the storyline !
I thought it portrayed the Irish in parts, as being .....shall we say, a little daft...which we all know they aren't. So they aren't

I think "Everything, everywhere all at once" will clean up!

Agree with Aclaret... "Banshees" makes the Irish look thick. The film stays with you & the acting is superb, but it leaves you scratching your head. WHY?

Austin Butler for Elvis anyone?

I thought he was outstanding.

The two best films of the year are Tar and The Whale, and The Whale isn't even nominated whereas fking Top Gun and Avatar both are, while Tar doesn't stand a chance despite it being superior in almost every way to every other film nominated save for maybe AQOTWF which was also very, very good, maybe on a par with Tar. Joke of a event, the function of which is only to inflate the prestige of Hollywood, not to genuinely recognise art. Means nothing when there's ridiculous oversights like those I've mentioned.

I think he was good but I think Jonathan Rhys Meyers performance in the tv mini series 20 years ago was far better.

Avatar 2 is an eco warrior film, so it's no shock that it's nominated

I didn’t know until I read up on the film after watching and it’s not a part of history that I know anything about. Worth another watch with a different perspective I would say though.

Good call it took home 8 awards.

Banshees joins the list of hard luck Oscar stories, it was nominated for 9 yet came away empty-handed.

Lady Ga Ga that was some performance

The whale is a stunning movie in all regards. My wife and I were in tears because it directly touched very raw nerves. Spoiler alert - Her brother was such a person as portrayed in every way physically and mentally, and identity, and died of a heart attack when standing up. My daughter was separated from me at age five and taken 3,500 miles away. The ending there is good as she chose to live with me, aged 16, 20 months ago, but I’m refusing medical treatments so that I don’t spend her inheritance…. It couldn’t be more poignant

And what Brendon Fraser did was to be just stunningly committed to his art

Michelle Yeoh won one. She was a drama student at Alsager College when I was there. I can't say I knew her.

wouldn't know a good film if it smacked them in the face,when was the last time a good film won a Oscar for best movie
