Team v Hull

Not an easy task to pick tonight, with Saturdays game in mind, imo although both will have to play a part we need to protect Anass and Nathan as much as possible to get the best out of them on Saturday, also to have any chance of beating City we also need Benson to play a part imo, which would really mean a run out tonight, vk kept quiet on Manny but I've just a feeling he could get 30 mins tonight, also again with Saturday in mind it's a bit unfortunate to have brownhill missing in terms of a workhorse in the middle for Saturday. Thoughts guy's ??

I hope to see Benson make the bench. Could really do with him as an option later on in the game on Saturday.

Hull play a back 4 so we usually go 4-2-4 with the press, like away at Norwich with Barnes and Tella through the middle. I think it will be that with JBG right, Cork and Cullen middle and Vitinho dropping out.

Agree with several previous posters- we should play the strongest available side.
Keeping the league performances going is top priority, we dont want to be thinking "we're already up" and get into relaxing/ taking it less seriously.
We have decent replacements across the board so the odd injury/knock ahead of Saturday wont big problems (and it's a "free hit" then anyway).
Maybe Pep will rest a few though- hopefully Haaland for starters.

How the heck have they managed to do today's date on the headline and then the link takes you to a game against them from 2015. Bizarre.

BPF in goal and the ten outfield players that finished Saturday's game, with the five that were substituted and Muric chilling on the bench.

I suppose it is a good time to refresh the 15-16 campaign as it was the last time we were at Hull and it was the nadir of our season. This was the last time Michael Duff played centre back I think and wasn't it rumoured that Barton went ballistic in the dressing room after that game-and the phoenix then rose from the ashes to 23 undefeated; although we were 5th in the Table at the time.

You'd have thought what with all the fancy tech in the stadium nowadays, the new owners would have called for an immediate overhaul of the official website to make it easier for fans to use.

Muric
Vitinho AAD Bayer Taylor
Cork Bastien
Obafemi Dervisoglu Zaroury
Barnes
Strong enough to beat Hull whilst giving Tella Maatsen and Roberts a well deserved rest

With (sadly) no Brownhill available for what is likely to be a difficult and physical encounter, this is the team I'd go with. Shame too that there's no Benson from the bench late on option either.

Absolutely agree! I had to do a double check when I saw this team suggestion as I assumed it was going to be DA! Take EVERY game seriously and respect the opposition, whoever they are. If we fall even slightly below the high standards we've set, we'll come a cropper. And forget all about Saturday until Thursday morning. As far as right now is concerned, Saturday is an irrelevance. All that matters is 8.00 this evening and getting the best people for the job out there.

Rest as many as possible imo. FA Cup quarter finals don't come around often.

Cork Bastien
Dervisoglu Twine
Obafemi Foster

Strongest team possible tonight. The Championship is the focus. 100+ could well be possible. We can still break the record for most points in the Championship if we hit another streak. The City game is a distraction and not worth risking any injuries over. I genuinely wouldn't be bothered if we sent a second string at the weekend!

I suppose that's the big question. Which is better - win the league with 100 points but lose to City, or win the league with 99 points and win the FA Cup and qualify for Europe? I say give it our best shot for the Cup. I'm still disappointed about that Watford match twenty years ago.

I read earlier that Benson and Jay are close to making the bench. I think it was Dan Black.
I'd be tempted to start JBG on the bench too. He's been one of our best performers recently and think he'll be a key player for us on Saturday. So a mix really. Not our strongest lineup but far from weakest.

Trust me, if I thought we had a sniff vs City I'd be all for giving it a go. I was at Watford and I still feel the same disappointment. This is different though. This is City. My first Burnley vs Man City match was in the FA Cup as it happens - January 1991. Unsurprisingly we lost.
Our record in my lifetime sits at P26, W1, D4, L21. Goals scored 17. Goals against 81. I hate playing them. Just hate it.
I tend to fancy us against anyone... Liverpool, United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs... bring it on! Not City though.

It would be a very bad idea to regard this evening's match as anything but one of our hardest, and we shouldn't underestimate Hull or disrespect them.
They haven't lost at home in the league since early November so it will be tough.

And certainly not 4, 5 or 6 changes as this always leaves the team so disjointed.

But do we really want to foster a spirit of "you're not good enough, these lot are better, we can't win so let's not try"?
If we rest the better players for City, there is every chance they'll be upset about not getting the chance which might affect their league form anyway.

I'd like to be at full strength for both, but I don't think some will manage 90 in both games. And there will be a lot of running required on Saturday. We will miss Brownhill, and will need the legs of Maatsen. And probably the pace of Obafemi.
I'd rest Barnes, Cork, JBG in parts. It'd be nice for JRod and Benson to get a bit of a run out if possible too
Tonight I'd go:
Muric
Vitinho Al-Dhakil Beyer Maatsen
Cork Cullen
Tella JBG Zaroury
Barnes
And make changes early. A draw tonight won't be a bad result

And it's not like they had to work hard last Saturday. The second half against Wigan wouldn't even count as a training session, for the effort it took.

There is a positional gamble there in Twine playing so deep, but I'd prefer to maybe try and preserve JBG and Cork to start at City.
