No criticism. I hope VK takes the good from this ( I thought sticking to our passing game at 6 0 down) was brilliant. Again no criticism I hope the owners realise the greater world they are privileged to be in and accept the challenge.

He picked the wrong team... But we'd have lost anyway, it's Manchester City.

It's rather academic now, Viva, but I'd have started Muric instead of BPF, I don't know if Ekdal was injured, but I'd have started him if he was fit. I'd have been tempted to start Cork, just for his experience, and I'd have started any of our other strikers instead of Foster, who is still learning about English football.

I knew we'd lose when the draw was made though.

:(

fair enough, I see it the other way though. We know Muric is up to it so we needed to see BPF in a more pressured situation and whilst his distribution wasn't great he did make the odd decent save - I'm still not convinced about him though. I 100% understood playing Foster for exactly the same reasons and for the first 30 he was ok (we wouldn't have learned anything playing Barnes). Ekdal must have been injured but Al Dakhil was excellent until City decided to go up the gears, he did far better than I thought he would. I guess we could have played Corky but to be honest we could have played 16 players today and City would still have won.

I think it was tricky with the added impact of Kompany returning to his true home. I'm not sure if it had any impact on our players but there was so much attention on that it felt very odd and I found it a bit off as a Burnley fan, I can't describe it but it didn't sit well for me.

Anyway at least that's out of the way and when we go next season there won't be so much of a hoo haa around him. He seems very determined in that interview to go back there and do a million times better, so will be very interesting next time I think. I definitely would have started Muric as others have said, and it's a shame key players that have impact aren't available, but not sure if the scoreline would have been any different.

Pep said he thought Kompany was brave going man for man against him and again said he will be City manager some day.

Agree - I'd have preferred a different team, especially given our league position. But they are just too good.

If Kompany wants to keep BPF as backup keeper then he has to play yesterday. Thought Foster was fine yesterday and certainly no worse than Barnes.

We looked tired after a quick turn round City had an extra day and the ability to bring in 7 players withou weakening the team
We were missing Muric Ekdal Brownhill JRod THB thru injury
No excuses but I believe a full strength and rested Clarets would not have suffered a heavy defeat
Some of our players got found out at this level but some looked like the step up will be no problem
I thought Beyer was brilliant and looked good enough to play in any team.
We will have learned a lot yesterday which in the long term will benefit VK and the club
Remember Man City away is probably the hardest game in the WORLD

Clearly Muric is a better keeper for the style we want to adopt than BPF and would have added something- in particular giving us an ability to play longer with precision to beat City's press. But I can absolutely understand why BPF played.

I thought the selection in midfield was a bit naive though. I don't understand the logic of playing JBG as an orthodox central midfielder when we were never likely to have the ball. In effect he played as a defensive midfielder yesterday and that isn't playing to his strengths. It would have made more sense to accept reality and play Cork alongside Cullen. The first City goal simply doesn't happen if Cork is screening the back 4 from a long ball forwards.

Equally, whilst I sort of understand Vitinho on the right of midfield in some situations to hold width whilst
allowing freedom elsewhere, that was never likely to be a factor with City dominating the ball and he neither threatened on the counter attack nor stiffened us defensively. Better I'd have thought to play JBG there instead - either as a 10, or off the right.

It was just a touch ambitious away at City. We've played with a double pivot lots this season very successfully and I'm a bit surprised we've abandoned it. If yesterday showed anything, it's that we will need the personnel to play that way next season- particularly against the best teams.

That said, we missed Brownhill yesterday. We can't replace his athleticism against the best teams.

His reaction is excellent and nice to hear him say 'the next time'.

This is a Manager with so much positivity!

I think that there was too big a gap between our last defender and our keeper for the first goal. That is a strength of Muric. After that, unfortunately we collapsed. But no complaints about team selection. Our manager has to keep his word to his players. We move on.

Yes I think having Muric is like having a sweeper and extra outfield player. If VK needs some inspiration he needs to play back the first half of yesterday-I have just done and we played so well against a top 4 World side. I have to also say I thought we started with one of our weakest sides too, with the injuries we have, and the decision to start Foster and Peacock Farrell

I think Foster was an entirely calculated decision to get some pace through the middle on the basis that was the best way to disrupt City and threaten them. Thought it worked quite well in the first half and (big fan of Barnes though I am) gave us an attacking dimension Barnes couldn't have offered - and didn't when he came on (tough situation though it was).
