'This is the end of my time at Burnley'
Burnley promoted to Premier League
Burnley forward Ashley Barnes told Sky Sports:
"After a difficult season to get relegated in the way we did, to bounce back and get straight back up is phenomenal.
"This is the end of my era as a Burnley player, I'm quite emotional to score.
"It's time to move on. It's one of those things, I'm delighted fro the staff and players and the fans. They've been through some tough times and it's nice to give that back to them today.
"I'll enjoy every moment. The job is done but now we want to be champions and finish it off."

What a character and he's been the scorer of some great Burnley goals, such as the ones against Spurs, Stoke City and Wigan spring to mind. Good luck Ashley.

All good things have to come to an end, and although Ash has been excellent these past few months it's probably right that he bows out on a high.
3 promotions he's won in his time at Burnley, is that a club record?

I think he joins Duff on three.
I'd give him another season personally, because I love him.

Kompany strikes me as the type who makes decisions with no emotion, similar to Sir Alex. The romantic in me would love to see him get a year, I’ve said that before. I think if Jay was out of contract you might see Barnes retained, but he has another year and the club probably think they can’t carry two ageing strikers in that league. I get it.
What a legend of a player for us though - an absolute Goliath and a top bloke who has given every inch of his body for us. If this is the end, and it seems so, then I’m glad he’s told us in advance. He can now get the send off he so richly deserves.

Not many footballers can say they'll be remembered as strongly by one set of supporters as Barnes will be.
In many ways defined a decade of Burnley FC.
Couple more against Rovers please mate.

Would like to see him stay another year.

Ah yes forgot about Duff.
I love him too, but we can't award contracts based on sentiment, although if he does move on we will need to bring in at least 1 new striker and possibly 2 depending on whether we retain Tella.

Absolute class act in that interview. He becomes the only Burnley player with 3 automatic promotions with 2 championships.
Just needs to finish it off with an Ewood hat trick.

I think Barnes deserves a contract based on contribution rather than sentiment. He’s obviously not the best striker in the premier league so we need recruits but based on the last 6 months he deserves a place in the squads

He has lost a little pace, however, he has some very unique skills.
He is also very much respected by the younger players. He can still help them.

Get his badges, he has experienced 2 styles of play here, such an asset should not be wasted, in a harsh industry you need experience and charisma, he has it.
I was one calling for his sacking after the drink drive, glad it didn't happen, he learnt from it.

A true Clarets legend who has given us some wonderful moments. I wish all the best in what remains of his playing career and would love to see him back here in a coaching role of some sort.

I’d heard this from a reliable source last week
He’s been up there alongside Duff for best value for money signings we’ve had, and this is one hell of a way to go.
3 against those lot in a few weeks would really be the cherry on the top for him

I forever remember the City game where he bullied French international Eliaquim Mangala so convincingly that it ended the guy's top level career.
He always felt more of a threat against the bigger teams, definite big game player.
Going out on a high.

My next door neighbour, who died this week, was one of the twenty people to put up £20000 to bring him to the club. Well done Ash,and well done to the others who had the money to hlp supply him to our club.

Any other club and he wouldn't have been here now, he wouldn't have lasted.
We've been a good fit for each other.
Always been a Barnes fan and I remember his goal against Barnsley when we were without forwards.
He'll always be our shithouse.

If Burnley footballers relied on their 10 year testimonial to make a few quid then I'd say sign him on, but both us and he deserve better than that.
Let him get <insert team> promoted, or avoid relegation, instead of having his Burnley career end away at Crystal Palace in the league cup or some other ignominy.

He's leaving the club in a better state than when he first arrived & he's contributed to that, you can't ask for much more & good luck to him wherever he next ends up.
