Probably not the right time to ask, but can anyone summarise the games at which we've been promoted. I'm asking because I was due to attend tonight, but couldn't during to the k.o time change.
From memory, I was at York,Scunthorpe, the 2 Wembleys, Chesterfield at home in the flood,,Charlton, but nothing else springs to mind right now, probably due to the celebratory alcohol. Thank in advance.

We clinched promotion from the old Div 3 into what is now the Championship at Southend in 1982. Remembering this made me think of Paul McGee who scored the night...now there is a former Claret I haven't thought of in a long time.

Scunthorpe away is one that sticks in my mind. Sat In the home stand and running on The pitch at the end, nearly getting lynched by home fans . It was worth it.

50 years ago -- beat Sunderland 2-0 to clinch promotion back to the top flight. My dad and I were ecstatic that night on the Turf. This is how I saved some cuttings in my scrap book

I think the only two clubs never to be relegated or promoted in my lifetime are Arsenal and Everton. I think every devoted fan needs to experience that agonizing pain of relegation and that great ecstasy of promotion at least once.
Was talking to 2 young lads in gym last week who recognized my Burnley shirt, one supporting Liverpool and the other Man U just because of T V exposure here, and neither was aware their team had previously been in the second tier. Also neither aware that we had been English champions, and the Liverpool fan was shocked to learn his team had been in second tier when we were champions in 60.

Sadly many younger fans think football was only invented in 1992.
I kind of agree although relegations sting at the time, the prospect of promotion is something Arsenal fans will never experience.
And Everton are trying their level best to break that long spell without suffering a relegation.

Everton were promoted to division 1 in 1953/54, the first season I have clear memories of. They were runners up to Leicester, who were the closest top flight team to where I lived at that time. Everton finished just one point ahead of Blackburn, who were not promoted.
How sad!
