Reading’s motivation

Post by Stalbansclaret » Tue Apr 11, 2023 10:22 am

Now threefold
1. Relegation dogfight
2. Safeguarding their 106 point record
3. Impressing new manager/potential new managers following Ince’s sacking

Interesting. Hope we can just kill them with our quality nonetheless. I remember going there at the end of the season when already promoted under Dyche (second time) and their fans singing “ We hold the record , one hundred and six” . The same game as their comedy pitch invasion when they thought they’d made the play-offs .

Their current team won't care about the record. None of them were involved.

I'd add the grievance over the game at The Turf as a motivation too.

Never mind Reading's motivation what about Burnley's.

Could clinch the title.
Match our record points tally.
Continue our unbeaten streak.

Plenty of motivation for our lads on Saturday, certainly just as much as Reading will have.

About that record:

It is impressive but by god the Champ was crap then - just after the ITV digital fiasco with clubs still feeling the sting of it.

It’s so much more professional now, there’s no comparison

I'd like to think we will be brimming with confidence too. They certainly won't.

I don't think Reading have anything to stop the steam roller we have become.
If we turn up, we win.
All season long the only team that looks like it could beat us, is ourselves.

we only just beat them at the Turf, they probably should have had a pen when they were already 1-0 up. It will be a tough game for us

I notice that on their fan forum they have a long-running thread devoted to their hope that thy retain their record

Reading played that game to nick a point, for a brief moment looked like they had a shot at three, but ultimately we ground them down. We left it late but it would have been the definition of smash and grab.

If anything that they now need to attack us you’d hope would play into ours hands.

It won’t matter what motivation they have if our attitude is right. We’re far better at football than them.

Will Tom Ince play or will he spit his dummy and follow Daddy out the door 🤔

From the Reading board.

Sadly, given the current form of both, Reading have an excellent home record against Burnley with just 1 defeat in 18 league visits. That defeat was almost exactly 42 years ago on 11 April 1981.

I'd wipe away the play off memories if I was them as well

That thread linked to their forum is odd.

I did like the ill-informed poster who claimed Bradford are one of our rivals.

They've had 8 wins and 11 draws (choosing to ignore the play-offs). It makes no difference. This is a totally different team and I don't think the record will mean anything to the Reading players - the fans yes, but not the players

Who could ignore the play-off semi-final where we completely stuffed them? Very jolly train journey back and their fans were very complementary. Confidently expect the same this weekend.
