County Championship: Essex v Lancs
Anderson and Hartley into the side.
Lancs win the toss and have elected to have a BAT.

Re: County Championship: Essex v Lancs
forgot about this.
Another tough test for Lancs, as Essex are usually strong at Chelmsford, and they are coming off the back of a good win against Middlesex at Lords.
No surprise to see Jimmy and Hartley is an obvious choice on what is likely to be a spinning track, I'm only surprised Parkinson misses out, especially after his 6 wickets against Surrey.
Bat well today get a score on the board then see how our bowlers perform.
Weather sadly intervening again, play off for the day at Bristol, and delays in the other Division 2 fixtures.

Oh dear not the ideal start for Lancs, Wells on his way for 3, 4-1.

Essex fighting back through to be 98-3 at the close, and they've probably edged the day just.

Exactly what Lancs needed, and who else but Jimmy.
4 now for the great man, and he'll fancy bagging a few more yet.

Finally underway on day 3, Jennings completed his 50, but Bohannon and Croft dismissed in rapid time, 102-3 lead of 90.

Brisk start by Jennings and Bell this morning as Lancs look to put on quick runs. Lead up to 179 now still 6 wickets in hand.

Shame Jennings missed out on his ton, and Lancs will want a few more yet, get the lead to 250 and we are well in the game.

The tail enjoying some late fun, lead now well over 300, and surely a declaration at lunch, and then allow Jimmy and the rest to bowl them out hopefully.

Cant help but think they're over-cooking this, 339 ahead with just two sessions to go. I suppose the bowlers can be v aggressive this afternoon at least. Its gone about as well as they could've hoped for at start of paly though. Something to follow this aft along with the various football.

Jimmy takes Cook's scalp for the 2ns time, Essex 5-1 after 6 overs, fair to say they are playing for the draw.

Re: County Championship: Essex v Lancs
In hindsight we declared far too late
Essex would be happy for draw having won their first game
Their best and opening bowler , Cook, was obviously injured and didn’t bowl much in the second innings and Lancashire scored at over 8 per over this morning .
May still bowl Essex out , we will have to wait and see

Yes and the Leicester Captain made a very late declaration in the Derbyshire game . Could say he was playing for himse as he was not out on 160 when he declared and May cost his side bonus bowling points in a tame draw.

Re: County Championship: Essex v Lancs
Harsh he declared once they'd posted 450 to earn an extra batting point, and as Leicestershire have so far claimed 7 Derbyshire wickets i doubt he'll face much flak from his side.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 4:19 pmYes and the Leicester Captain made a very late declaration in the Derbyshire game .
