Enjoyed that.
I’m going to miss Barnes in a Burnley shirt.
What a bargain he has been.

It’s gonna hurt so much when he leaves. He bleeds our colours and it’s clear to see how much he loves this club

Really well put together. Hope we get more stuff like that produced by the club. Looking forward to part two.

I'd love to see that push on the keeper in his Strictly routine.

The thing that really struck me was he knew he was playing crap, he even admitted to his missus he was so bad At Sunderland he may never get in the team again. But I think that’s the key, he wasn’t thinking he was doing well and playing great, he knew he wasn’t and then turned it around. Almost brought me to tears. Bless him.

Great interview that.
Did chuckle at his acknowledgement that he was terrible at Sunderland, which he was. Hasn’t half turned it around since and made a few of us, myself included, eat some humble pie.

No sentiment in football, but would have loved Burnley to have found him a post to fill when he’s finished.

Really enjoyed that. Does bring it home what players go through during their tough spells. For him to think Sunderland away could genuinely have been the last time he wore the shirt after ten years, and the transformation since then!
Anyone know when part 2 is out?

He and his wife came across so well in that, clearly a very strong team. He'll get a tremendous send off in his final game and it wouldn't surprise me to see him back here in a coaching capacity or such further along the line. It is clear and his family just 'get it'.

Loved that. When you see footballers at home with the family like that you realise how hard it must be for all of them when they are out of form or injured. Particularly when you see some of the thoughtless comments from the keyboard warriors. Wasn't long ago he was getting dogs abuse from some on here. Really disrespectful after all the years of great service. So glad he's turned it round so he can bow out in a fitting way.

his wife is clearly a rock and incredibly supportive. He's a lucky man.
You choose a life of a footballer, which means you move around... he has his two kids and also his Mother-in law in the area now.... it must be gutting for him to rip that up and move elsewhere

Was a little annoyed that the club captioned the link as "watch the full video now" then its just part one

Re: ASHLEY BARNES: 10 Years A Claret | Part One
Mixed feelings about his wife being involved in this. In a way, a nice touch to get another perspective, however I think all this does is conform to a stereotype about footballers' wives and it all being about the player with the wife's function simply being about support. I think it would have been better positioned if they were revealing more about how day to day, the family operates, rather than it being an interview all about Ashley with the wife chiming in all about Ashley.

I just thought it worked really well
But I have to say, even Barnesy thought he was shite at Sunderland
Can people stop pretending to be outraged because people pointed that out?
Cheers!

They was talking about how Ashley was out of football and how he was a great house husband doing chores around the house.Papabendi wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:49 amMixed feelings about his wife being involved in this. It was a programme about ASHLEY'S 10 years at Burnley
Re: ASHLEY BARNES: 10 Years A Claret | Part One
Enjoyable video of a great servant of our club and, as an aside, positive to include his wife, who comes across so well, to get a broader perspective too. Barnes is a legend.
Re: ASHLEY BARNES: 10 Years A Claret | Part One
Enjoyed the interview and left me feeling that Ash is no doubt like many of us (well certainly me). An aggressive competitor who strives to win football matches, yet not the boss in his own house

Re: ASHLEY BARNES: 10 Years A Claret | Part One
Love Barnes and love how Burnley has become his home.
I remember Dyche really wanting to sign him from Brighton and him being one of his priorities.
Think the fee was £500k from memory and what a fantastic deal that’s been for us and for Barnes.
Great that he’s been involved in some of our big promotion moments - the goal against Wigan, away at Barnsley, and last week at Boro.
His fantastic performance and goals away at City when he frightened their defence to death.
One of the best goals by a claret player in the last 20 years away at Spurs.
Scoring the winning goal away at Liverpool to break their record.
Blackburn performance this season.
So many great memories but most of all he’s clearly been a very big character in our dressing room for a decade now and he has a big influence on his team mates and the culture of the club.
I wish we could keep him on and he could take a coaching role under VK. Would be great for him and for the players young and old to have him still around the club. I suspect Barnes wants to still play for a couple of years though and that he’ll get a last decent 2 or 3 year deal from a club which is understandable in his position. Hopefully after this he’ll come back and have a role in the club in some capacity

We’ve had clamour for lots of others to be found a role, over the years. Had we acted on them all, we’d be overrun with ex players in various roles within the club.
If there is a role that needs to be filled, sentimentality needs to be taken out of the equation, though of course there must surely be benefits from having someone who ‘gets’ our club.
Ultimately, we want the best person possible - if the best person is Barnes or another former player, all the better.

Re: ASHLEY BARNES: 10 Years A Claret | Part One
I agree with the point DCWat makes and I actually think the decision by the board / management to take sentimentality out of it and not offer him a contract should be applauded. He’s not good enough at the top level anymore and we can’t keep hold of players that aren’t just because they’ve done well for us and are legends. That mentality eventually leads to a downfall and costs the club financially and on the pitch. He’ll get the send off he deserves v Cardiff and we both move on.

Whilst I appreciate the value for money bit regards Ashley, he's way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way down on my list of 'Top' Clarets.

Thought it was a very personal and open video.
They both came across very well.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to Pt. 2
Any video featuring the first goal he scored against Rovers is a winner.

Excellent watch.
He's certainly come a long way from when he started, I remember then he didn't seem to be able to string two words together and rumour had it, the other players bought him some elocution lessons once for Christmas.

Since the Sunderland away game, he's possibly having his best spell at the club.
Good luck for the future Ashley and I can't wait for part two.

Sentiment aside- while Barnes is still fit I see a role for him in every game, last 10mins chasing a draw or last 20 mins to hold a win.
Sentiment included- this video shows how much he loves the club and gets the fans, that’s priceless.
