Another poor performance and it proves that the second string are not good enough. Rotherham are obviously fighting for their status in the Championship but we should have absolutely buried them tonight. Maatsen had a shocker and to be honest the rest of the back line, including Beyer who had his worst game for us, were poor. The only player to come out with credit from tonight IMO was Cullen. The ref was also pants but he didn’t contribute to us not winning that game. That was thoroughly frustrating.

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
BPF- 6. Didn’t do an awful lot wrong.
Maatsen- 5. Already wearing flip flops.
Al-Dakhil- 5. Like him but tonight was his weakest performance. Struggled with Rotherham’s physicality. Poor clearing header for their second.
Beyer- 8. Our best player by a country mile. His anticipation and reading of the game is excellent. Covered Al-Dakhil time and time again. Was furious with their second.
Roberts- 6. Hard working.
Cullen- 7. Did his usual. Positioning is immense.
Zaroury- 6. Few sparks but end product missing again. Nice feet for our second.
JBG- 7. Took up some great positions and movement was very clever. Unlucky with his header.
Twine- 7. Took his goal really well but disappeared in the second half.
Vitinho- 6. No end product. Struggling to see what he brings at the moment.
Foster- 6. Looked bright in the first half but like Twine faded. No goal scoring threat which is a concern.
Obafemi- 6. Nice touches and control.
Benson- 7. Super goal.
Cork- no rating
Barnes- no rating
Don’t want to be too critical. We’ve noticeably dropped off in recent games. Some squad players struggling. Hopefully we can pick it up for Rovers next week.

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
BPF 6 Not sure if fouled from the corner despite seeing it 5 times
Roberts 7 Steady as always
Beyer 7 Ditto
Al Dakhill 6 Decent game, could he have got more on the header that lead to the second equaliser?
Maatsen 5 Below par and thought he should have been a lot tighter on the man and at least tried to block the cross at the end.
Cullen 8 Masterclass in what his position should be
JBG 6 Ok again
Twine 7 Similar to Saturday, good first half, faded in second
Vitinho 6 Mixed bag again tonight, can be frustrating but he's not an out and out winger
Foster 6 Good energy, pace and determination but no goal threat
Zaroury 6 The good, the bad and the ugly
Benson 7 Great strike (what about the challenge from Cullen though)
Barnes 6
Obafemi 6

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
BPF 5 - might argue he was blocked for the goal but for me he has to be stronger
Roberts 7 - pick of the defence, forward (good assist) and back
Al-Dakhil 5 - lacked composure tonight and very poor header cost us the 2nd
Beyer 6 - not his usual dominant self
Maatsen 5 - rash defending at times and didn’t create much going forwards
Cullen 7 - lots of good stuff as usual
Twine 8* - quality goal, really neat attacking play all night, though perhaps should have got a 2nd
JBG 7 - exploited space on the left quite well
Vitinho 7 - tidy enough but lacked that clinical edge
Zaroury 6 - in and out, can frustate at times
Foster 7 - showed the reasons why we bought him tonight, encouraging
Benson 7 - stunning goal and brought a new threat on the right
Odd game in some ways. They didn’t really need to do much to score 2 goals, which is very unlike us. On the balance of play we will be wondering how we didn’t win but I enjoyed the game and don’t really care about the result. Good to see Twine and Foster looking sharp. Looking forward to playing on consistently good pitches next season rather than s**** like that.

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
BPF 6 - not a lot wrong, his distribution is fine but not on the level of Muric.
Roberts 8* - a constant outlet, made excellent runs and very good on the ball.
Al Dakhill 6 - he did fine but a couple of sloppy passes and part of a defence who looked very nervy against crosses into the box.
Beyer 7 - some excellent covering and recovery tackles, but again not dominant enough.
Maatsen 5 - some good things on the ball and moving forwards. However his positioning was so, so poor and he was a real weak link in our defence. No surprise af all that both goals came from that side. A little surprised he wasn't hooked.
Vitinho 6 - some nice touches and always an outlet but not a natural in that position.
Cullen 8 - very strong performance.
Gudmundson 7 - perhaps should have done a little better when we'll positioned on occassion but very accomplished.
Twine 7 - he's a really good technical footballer and took his goal superbly.
Zaroury 6 - some nice footwork and looked dangerous without ever really delivering.
Foster 6 - he's looked a lot sharper the last couple of games but felt he could have picked up better positions in the box at times and stayed slightly more central.
Benson 8 - fantastic strike.
Barnes 6 - fine
Obafemi 6 - looked dangerous.
Overall a good performance let down by some very indisciplined defending and lack of real conviction in the final third.

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
We dominated from the first minute to about minute 85, and should have been out of sight (with a blatant pen)
Poor defending for the second, and I'll have to look at the first again but it just looked like weak goalkeeping
BPF 5 - six if he was fouled
Roberts 7 - should score and generally good
Beyer 8 - magnificent, defo not wearing flip flops
Al Dakhill 6 - poor for the 2nd, but the closing down and marking after that was about as bad as it gets
Maatsen 5 - flip flops and wondering where he's left his beach towel
Cullen 8 - kept us ticking over as always
JBG 7 - good, so good at finding space
Twine 7 - great first half but faded a bit
Vitinho 6 - another who faded a lot as the game went on
Foster 7 - superb 1st half, but dropped off a bit 2nd
Zaroury 7 - great feet but also some bad decision making
Benson 7 - what a strike
Barnes 6
Obafemi 6
Rotherham have absolutely got away with a point there, and its disappointed that its our mistakes that have given them it

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
BPF - 6 - would like to see the first goal again but I thought he looked a little hesitant on it.
Roberts - 8 - very bright in the first half and as assured as anyone defensively.
Maatsen - 6 - couple of shaky moments and wanted to play out a bit too much at times, but broadly OK.
Al Dakhil - 6 - Not as assured as he has been and needed to do better for the first goal.
Beyer - 7 - Bailed us out a couple of times but not as composed on the ball has he has been and I thought he was caught a bit for the second equaliser.
Cullen - 7 - neat and tidy if not always able to dominate against physical opponents.
JBG - 7 - neat and tidy but not especially penetrating.
Twine - 7 - Very good and sharp in the first half, some nice touches in the second but a bit more peripheral.
Zaroury - 7- don't understand the low marks, he was a threat all night and used the ball nicely for the most part, and put a string of good balls across. One poor dive, and gave the corner away for the first equaliser, but overall a perfectly decent night's work.
Foster - 7 - Best player on the pitch first half, holding the ball with his back to goal and winning the physical battle, linking nicely, and driving with the ball to good effect on occasions. But he still needs to be a bit more assertive in getting into goalscoring positions - as shown when JBG tried to square to him in the second half and he'd been on his heels a fraction for the initial ball and couldn't make up the ground.
Vitinho - 6 - OK going forwards and steady defensively, but we needed a slightly more dynamic outlet on the right.
Benson - 7 - gave us that outlet and a great goal.
Frustrating night - lots of perfectly decent stuff, but unnverved by the high ball stuff defensively, and occasionally by a decent press, and for all our superiority we didn't quite create the quality of chance that we should have done, which has been a bit of a theme against the lower ranking teams for a few weeks, not helped by the turnover of players and perhaps a bit of fatigue. Big positives from Foster and Twine though - even if Foster may well just need a tap in.

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
BPF 5 - not sure why he’s being played
Roberts 7 - another good showing
Al-Dakhil 5 - completely bullied tonight. Nowhere strong enough.
Beyer 7 - stood up to the bartering much better but needed some help back there
Maatsen 4 - poor defensively all night and not much going forward. I’m not convinced he’ll be up to a PL season
Twine 7 - good game and good goal
Cullen 7 - typical good performance
JBG 6 - got into some good attacking positions but not much came off
Vitinho 6 - a threat down the right but can’t really beat a man
Foster 6 - a very good first half but a poor second half. Better, but we need a goal threat
Zaroury 5 - threatened but nothing came off
Benson 8 - what a goal.
Another few lessons learned tonight. Will need more strength at the back and in midfield this summer, without a doubt.

From tv
BPF 6 I didn’t feel as safe with him in goal
Roberts 7 good both going forward and in defence
Al-Dakhil 6 a couple of silly mistakes, one which led to their second goal
Maatsen 6 said it many times, not convinced about his defending
Beyer 8 held the defence together tonight
Vitinho 7 good in bits
Cullen 7 another very good performance but needs help in midfield
JBG 6 a bit off it tonight
Zaroury 6 his recent decision making has been a bit iffy
Foster 7 very good first half, we need to play to his strengths more
Twine 7 again very good first half and a well taken striker’s goal
Benson 8 made things happen when he came on, plus one for that goal.

Thought we played well and should have won comfortably. Just a bit wasteful in front of goal and two sloppy goals on Rotherham’s rare forays into our defensive third.

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
BPF 5 - couldn’t decide if at fault for the goal right in front of me but his distribution wasn’t to Muric levels
Roberts 6 - nearly won it but had one or two hairy moments too
Al-Dakhil 6 - good pace and aerial ability, not as influential and at fault for the late goal taking the wrong man, but is young and learning
Beyer 6 - a couple of wobbles that need tightening up for next year
Maatsen 5 - more than good enough at this level, the Prem, on this evidence, not sure, but he is young and will improve
Cullen 8 - ran the game
Twine 8 - magnificent, his offensive stats must be superb, always looking, gets chances, creates better than anyone we have. Can he do it in the Prem?
Gudmundsson 6 - a bit quieter tonight
Vitinho 7 - very lively but reminds me of Arfield/Boyd/Hendrick on the wing, i.e. industry over creativity
Foster 8 - they struggled to handle him, and he is impressing me more this last week or so
Zaroury 5 - some good feet but appears to be lacking end product, I suspect the season is catching up with him, he will come again
Benson 8 - changed the game and unlucky he didn’t win it for us, as it turns out it doesn’t change much for Saturday
I am coming around to agreeing with Kompany about sacking off the record (let’s be honest, he has) and instead decide who to keep and who to jettison. Better to find out now. There are some wobbles that must give him food for thought. If he really prioritised winning that game he would make different subs at different times, e.g. Obafemi earlier and Barnes earlier. It wasn’t like him which makes me suspect he was in watching and learning mode. I think he was also hoping one of the newish lads got the promotion clincher to give them a confidence boost, e.g. Foster or Twine.
I’m not going to single players out in a negative way but on the flip side Foster and Twine are making me hope they stay for next year. They need the games and are looking good.
It was a good atmosphere and the crowd got behind the players but maybe not with the extra gusto we can do, and it didn’t really push us over that line. The away end was a tad more subdued that normal, just a tad before anyone leaps on this comment.
No easy games at this level and only us, Boro and Blades have scored more at home.

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
Peacock Farrell 6 Did ok, not sure if he could have done better with their goal
Roberts 7 Covered a lot of ground but still a bit hairy fairy in the tackle and his passing needs beefing up
Al Dakhil 5 Seemed to misjudge a lot of balls tonight and struggled with the physical side of Rotherhams game
Beyer 6 Agree with another poster, his worst game for us, does this mean we get him cheaper ??
Maatsen 4 This lad is not a full back in my eyes, for their second equaliser he lost possession in their half and missed the cross when they scored,
not particularly good going forward tonight, CT is a far better defender. Not PL standard
Cullen 7 heavily involved left nothing out there
Gudmundsson 7 worked hard and tried to create something
Twine 7 Took his goal well and seemed more `up for it` and showed way more than he did Saturday
Zaroury 6 Sloppy control by him gave away the corner that they scored form, struggled against a full back who had him in his pocket for the most
part
Foster 8* His best game so far, not everything came off but he put a real shift in attacking wise and defended well from the front
Vitinho 4 didn`t create anything of note, no service for the forwards, he should be at full back or on the bench
Subs:
Benson 8 looked a bit more like the early season Benson, great goal
Barnes not greatly involved
Obafemi Looked a bit of a handful, would like to see him start a match
Cork N/A

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
I think the low marks are a bit harsh, especially for our forward players. I thought we were comfortably the better side and could have won by 3 or 4 on another day. Would have been interesting to see what the scores had been should Benson’s goal have been the winner.

On the subject of Rotherham player's I really like the look of their Number 11 Chiedozie Ogbene, a strong battling winger who is only 25 year's old and out of contract this summer

Agree he’s a striker doing the hard donkey graft on the wing. He’d be 2x the player here because he wouldn’t be defending all the timrAGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 6:05 amOn the subject of Rotherham player's I really like the look of their Number 11 Chiedozie Ogbene, a strong battling winger who is only 25 year's old and out of contract this summer

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
The low marks are are bonkers
Maatsen was the only player who really disappointed I thought
I get the disappointment of conceding a silly equaliser but the idea is you mark them on their overall game, and our overall performance
19 times out of 20 we win that comfortably, and Rotherham were quite lucky they weren't on the end of a hammering

Re: Rotherham v Burnley - Player Ratings
BPF 5-Appears to lack authority for me and i'm sure it must transmit to the back four.
Roberts 8-Thought he had another very good game. Come on leaps and bounds since the WC.
Al-Dakhil 5-Not sure about him, but he's still learning.
Beyer 8-Thought he was excellent.
Maatsen 4-Not sure whats happened to him of late since his injury.
Cullen 8*-Mr Consistency.
Gudmundson 7-Another solid performance. I like him in his CM role.
Vitinho 4-Personally I thought he was poor.
Twine 8-His best game and I can see his confidence growing. Think we might have a player here.
Zaroury 5-Huffed and puffed but little end product.
Foster 5-Sorry, if we'd have had a goalscorer starting last night we'd have won comfortably.
Benson 7-Brilliant goal, possibly the best of the season.
