Does it make it even sweeter that they will be whining that Cork should have got a red and a penalty against Barnes? It does add fuel to the belief that the big clubs always get the decisions!

Barnes had a great game tonight. Played as a foil for his team mates, won important challenges and above all just genuinely ****** them off. Don't think he'll be hooning them next season.

Finally some payback for that offside Dunn late equaliser at theirs and that diving penalty they got at ours last time they beat us.

I didn't hear them complaining when Brereton hand balled it at Burnley and got away with it. That was easier to see as well.

Their match day thread is brilliant reading.

According to some, that’s the best they’ve played all season. Did Muric even have a save to make?

The ones on twitter all agree that they had no goal threat at all

They looked great in the middle third, but a lot of the time that was because we just let them have it there

Credit where credit is due though, they were a lot better than they were at the Turf, but it would have been hard to have been worse

Barely… they also had an xG of 0.4 which is basically nothing.

Massive variability in their xG stats (see below), which makes you wonder if it should be classed as a "stat" rather than an opinion, but to my eye they didn't carry any real menace.

I take the xG stuff with a pinch of salt.

It's not a tracked metric like passes completed, shots, on-target, its a "what if" calculation.

If an opposition team gets 5 corners and every corner is a headed in the box by opposition and easily defended away then its classed as an increase in xG, yet in reality it may never a threat and not even an on target metric.

Possession, shots on target and off target and most importantly goals tends to tell the best picture.

Rovers had more of the ball but didn't do anything with it, we had limited shots and made them count. That's all that matters really.

That’s not really how it works at all - it just tracks all the goals scored from the same position on probability of a goal based on historic data of all goals scored from the same position /angle to goal in the data base.

Possession means absolutely nothing - it’s just how many passes a team successfully completes as a % of total game passes.

xG whilst not perfect is much better than any of those metrics.

Chances created, big chances created and touches in opposition box other good metrics

Their manager leading the sad lamentations. Apparently they were the better side, the ref was useless, and he references parachute money.

Exactly - its a calculation on probability with a bunch of other previous stats, not a exact measure of what is happening at that moment or what will happening. I feel it at times it just skews games to demonstrate more favorable to one team than they actually are.

You can see the more rational ones slowly getting annoyed at the ones who are pretending that us winning the league at their place is somehow counter balanced by them running around a lot

There are about eight pages of one fan asking everyone to name the shots our keeper had to save and absolutely no one replying to him

End of the day, one moment of quality settled it, but once we scored, they never bothered our goal (and they barely did before)

Not really, just shows a team is making good quality chances.

It’s how betting and everything works - probability - one off games are one thing…

For example, flip a coin a million times and it’ll be roughly 50/50 heads and tails but you could have patterns of 10 heads in a row for example.

The odd game might look strange but on average the teams with more xG and more xG differential will be higher up in the league than those that don’t.

It’s also why Blackburn’s early season standing of 3rd was a red herring - their underlying stats were turd.

Quite a funny read their match thread, one particular poster GAV seems really hurt, bit strange that he doesn't seem to have cared enough to go to the match judging by his weird comments all through the match, seems to have a fetish for jenga as he can't stop saying it. Always find it weird when someone seems to care so much but won't leave his armchair.

The whole thread is littered with inbred this and inbred that, I genuinely thought it would be people aged about 10 saying this but there are adults using it they really are a very odd bunch.

Hurting them last night as much as this has done makes a brilliant season perfect. Last night was possibly their best performance for over 10 years and yet they never looked like scoring a goal at any stage and we never got out of 2nd gear, it could be some years before they get over this.

That was the best thing - even though it was a tough watch in the last ten mins or so, it left them with enough hope that they may score and ruin the party so most stuck around till the end. It was perfect.

Indeed. Given bastards’ inability to muster one in their last 5 games against us, they could just have put the xg down as 0.0 and save everyone the bother.

Well true most won't ever, but some seem to forget their club exists or revert back to boycott stance when not near the play offs so they will be fine by next season when they are mid table and back watching 3pm Premier league games on their firesticks yearning to watch their team play at that level.

Lots of trying to console themselves because they were a lot more up for it than they were at the Turf
