Best to have played in the East Lancs derby

Post by Pickles » Fri Apr 28, 2023 11:51 am

For the podcast I do, we're going to discuss this so I thought I'd throw it out there to get some opinions. Can be how good the player was at any stage of their career. Would be interested to hear some suggestions from before my time, so 60s, 70s, 80s. Cheers!

Brad Friedel. Ah there you go: you weren’t expecting that were you? Incredible keeper.

Slightly off topic but after listening to your last podcast and then my twitter feed I realised I knew Michael ‘Gravey’ through schools in Clitheroe. Is there where you were acquainted? I often see him on twitter giving us some stick 😂

Tony Morley went on to win the league and European Cup. I assume he’ll have appeared in at least one derby in the mid-late 70s (although I haven’t checked). Trevor Steven will have played in the 82/83 matches.

Seen us win a few and lose a few,too but nothing to compare with New Year's Day 1966 at Ewood Park. 0-2 up.and Ralph Coates sat on the ball. Priceless.

Throw this forward 5 years and you might find Al Dakhil's (sp) name in the mix.

No quote intended. 🙂

He's far from our best on paper player to have been in the Derby but if we're talking best derby performances got to be a word for Jason Shackell, scored in two separate fixtures for us.

Jon Walters by a country mile. But for his bad luck with injury's he would have been one of Burnleys greatest ever players and an all time legend.
