I thought we got one when we finished 2nd a few years back. I agree it's a bit embarrassing. 'Well done on nearly being the best' Trophy

Still got promoted, we had the same celebrations when we came second behind Leicester. The big presentation will be next weekend UTC

Not as embarrassing as when we lifted the Championship play-off trophy at Wembley in 2009. Wow, what a cringeworthy moment.

3rd place gets one, so why not 2nd?

That's exactly the point.
I've always been unhappy with the concept that you fail to win promotion by finishing 1st or 2nd, but you get a Wembley trip and a trophy for finishing amongst the "also rans".

Are there any other examples in sport where those who have basically finished 3rd are allowed to have have a bigger celebration than the best team in the competition?

Whoever wins the play-offs even gets a bigger report in the papers and a prime-time slot on the sports news.

Crazy when you think about it. Did Wolves get more coverage than us when we beat Sheff United in 2009?

There should only be 1 trophy 🏆, everyone else should get a certificate of merit 😁.

We've been happy enough to get runners-up, play-off winners awards.
Let's face it...it's all primarily for the benefit of the product.

Think of the poor teams who finish near the top of the Premier League, they don't even get the chance to enter a play-off round to try and win a "lower placed" prize at Wembley.

OK, "poor" isn't really the best word to describe the teams picking up the Premier League tv money according to the position they finish in the Premier League.

Not really sure that we are moaning - or at least not most of us.
If finishing 6th, over 30 pts behind the top 2 means that you can get a Wembley trip and a trophy, then why not the runners -up?

Final day will be good, fixtures like QPR v Bristol City and watch them both lift their "mid table participation" trophies!

Sheff Utd have had a great season and are rightly celebrating it and enjoying it tonight. Doesn’t diminish our amazing success at all. Same for the play off winners.

We are the only one's that matter.

We are champions.
We have been superior.
We are Burnley.

Nobody else matters.

Next Sunday is OUR day, and nobody is going to take that away from us.

I'm getting there early to avoid disappointment !!!! :o

I did wonder when I typed that tbh, but as we're off to a gig
in Manchester straight after the game, I assumed that it was
correct without checking it out.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I'll see y'all Monday then.

2nd place and play off winners should get medals only.
Trophies should be reserved for the winners.

Nothing wrong with silverware for being Runners Up which is always listed as an honour. Its an achievement to be Runner Up and certainly in this Division. Don’t get the moaning.

The runners up trophy was added because they were the only promoted team not to get one.

Not just a bigger celebration, but the playoff winner earns more than the champion too (as I recall from our 2009 run, when we went halves with Sheffield Utd on the cash). I think what gained us more media interest back then was the human interest story of a great old club returning to the top flight.

I didn’t think we went halves with them

I thought there was an agreement that the loser got the cash as the winner then got the prem money

It's also a one-off game with no other games to share coverage with. Sky hype it up "the £150m match" etc so of course there is a lot of interest in it.

Speaking of also ran’s. I have always thought that the Champion’s League is probably the most inappropriately named tournament in the world given that most of the teams in it aren’t. How do you qualify for a ‘champions’ tournament for finishing fourth? Ridiculous money making excercise.
