The volume of signings, the clubs we now approach and the type of players we are interested in. It's very different.

Definitely down to both Kompany and Pace.

No. Both the manager and owner. A clear strategy that's been well publicised

Nope that would be idiotic given none of us actually knew what “it” was.
What’s your actual point here ?
Can you not see from the other comments that the original point you made was a bit daft ?

What backups did Garlick have? He used to have 1 target and continue making lowball offers for the same target

The differences are stark. To the extent that I find it impossible to see how anyone could think that the approaches are exactly the same.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 9:46 amIt was just an observation that the owner is doing exactly what the old owner did, but fans acceptance levels are different.

Isn’t that what all owners / clubs do ?
It’s very clearly how many players you bring in and the eventual price you pay that fans judge owners on.

Compare the Dale Stephens transfer window with the last one.
Have a think.
Then come back to this thread.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
People also forgetting that the last 2 transfer windows under Garlick the club was attempting to keep as much in the coffers to help with the leveraged buy out. As opposed to the club now seemingly wanting to spend everything it's got including this year's premier league money already. It's about as far apart as you can imagine

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I would expect he is looking for a replacement for Franchi, who seems to have struggled to show much.
If VK knows BPF is leaving it would also require a new keeper.
So just because we are looking at keepers, doesn't mean that Muric is under threat. He had a great finish to the season, and improved, just like most everyone around him. Add to that, that any new keeper will be required to play exactly the same way, and will be exposed to the same dangers that Muric has to face, we aren't going to change our style to accommodate new players.

I think if we pay many millions for a keeper it won't be just to replace Franchi. It will be to challenge the number one spot.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 10:35 amI would expect he is looking for a replacement for Franchi, who seems to have struggled to show much.

I agree with most of that but what different Clubs do we approach? We seem to be approaching plenty of Championship down to league 2 clubs. Although we are doing more business abroad now so maybe that was your point.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We are clearly looking to the European market which we rarely did in the past.JarrowClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 10:54 amI agree with most of that but what different Clubs do we approach? Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
That's obvious from last season and probably one of the reasons Pace & Co took a punt on VK because he has the contacts in Europe, in particular Belgium where there are many gifted players who cost a lot less than than those in the bigger countries.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Of course we’re signing a lot more players under the current ownership - that’s because we sold most of our best players when we were relegated and we had a number of players on loan who have now returned to their clubs.
This is what I don’t understand about the criticism of our transfer activity under Garlick; nobody seems to acknowledge that we managed to keep hold of our best players on improved contracts. Many people may think in hindsight we would have been better having a more active trading policy in terms of cashing out on players at peak value - but that would no doubt have come under fire by many as well.
This new approach is certainly more exciting and our forays into the European market have been very refreshing and something that was certainly lacking previously. But another factor to consider is that we were signing players who had to perform at Championship level which is obviously an easier task than signing players for the PL.
We will find this transfer window more difficult as we are competing for signatures against wealthier clubs and the calibre of player we need to improve us is much harder to find within our budget. This is why some of our targets and even the signing of O’Shea have been described as a ‘Dyche type signings’, which is just odd, because basically signing the better players from the Championship is just one of the realities of the situation we’re now in.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
As usual the truth is in between the poles: our strategy has changed from the Garlick/Dyche years, but it's an evolution not a revolution at present and let's hope it stays that way given that the ultimate constraints are exactly the same.
We are being a bit braver and looking a bit broader, and apparently are looking to be more dynamic in moving players on to reinvest, but the fundamentals of buying cheap and where possible then selling on are the same.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The backwards thing is we appeared in a more healthy financial state under Garlick (money at bank and no debt) as opposed to now. Yet we are being braver with less. I still maintain had Garlick invested the money at bank or even half of the money at bank rather than keep it in the club we may never have dropped out of the prem. All ifs and buts really.
Garlicks crime was 'investing in the leveraged buyout' however if ALK can take us to the next level did Garlick do the right thing? Quite possibly.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Maybe we wouldn’t have dropped out of the PL, but a massive reset would still have been needed because we hadn’t managed our playing resources properly for quite some time - I think we all saw that. Garlick helping out would just have been a sticking plaster when an operation was needed.
I think the drop was the best case scenario. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing tho I accept that….

You make some interesting points conroy, I certainly agree with your appraisal of Garlicks decision to go with the leveraged buyout.
I believe Garlick did the right thing for Garlick…. The fact that it looks to have worked out very well for us (at the moment) I would suggest is purely coincidental.

If only we had a whole forum where people could create new threads unrelated to transfer rumours, like comparing Garlic to Pace. That would be grand.

I watched a youtube video of this lad and another of Kyogo from Celtic and I can't help but think that Flemming has something about him whereas Kyogo would probably fail in the top flight because he'd never find that much space against better defenders and goalkeepers.IanMcL wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 10:57 pmMillwall's Zian Flemming. You do get more space in the Prem than you do in the Champ. That's just how it is. Players tend to stand back and hit you on the break. Flemming looks like a chilled player who gets the ball and just hits you with a pass.dibraidio wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 2:38 pmI watched a youtube video of this lad and another of Kyogo from Celtic and I can't help but think that Flemming has something about him whereas Kyogo would probably fail in the top flight because he'd never find that much space against better defenders and goalkeepers.

I totally disagree. You get way less time in the prem. the opposition are bigger and quicker athletes that close down incredibly quickly.

“Has Kompany called yet? No, although I am in contact with many other Burnley staff.”
“Not necessarily about a transfer. But if Vinny calls, it might open a door that I would like to walk through.”
