Nobody wants to sell their better players, but there's clearly been some dialogue about a sale otherwise I highly doubt we'd be going back three times.

When was the last time it was public that we went back 3 times and eventually bought the player?
From memory it doesn’t happen like this in Burnley’s case

Dale Stephens , yeh.
When he was a good player and worth signing , I think we even had a report he was texting his mate to tell him he was Burnley bound.

Although I’m not sure we did actually bid in the end. I think they called us and said ‘giz a Mill and you can have him’

If you watch the O'Shea video put out by the club he says we have been in dialogue since the end of the season, so not as quick as you think. Just we managed to keep it under the radarwarksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 7:14 pmIf we believe what has been reported-ie a third bid, then after 3-4 weeks of fannying about trying to get Clarke, we should know the figure that will secure him. So either meet the price tag or move on. This reminds me of the Garlick days.Makes me wonder if we are really serious about him if you look at how quick O'Shea was concluded

SSN saying "Chelsea understood to have paid Villareal more than the £30m release clause for [Nicolas] Jackson". Why would they do that?

I think the release clauses in players at Spanish clubs needs to be paid up front, so presumably paid more but with terms more favourable to Chelsea.

Be a great week if we get both Clarke and Flemming.
Be interesting to see where we prioritise after that Vrankx?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We can't answer this because it might have happened dozens of times in the last transfer window alone, for all we know. The media write about whatever info they get, but there's no way they'll be kept informed of every offer we make, every negotiation that goes back and forth then stops when a different option appears, then re-starts when things change once again. I suspect most transfers entail a club making at least a couple of offers, getting gazumped, other teams unexpectedly pulling out etc. Maybe it's like buying a house and some players come with a chain. 'We can't sell you X until we line up a replacement' and so on.

I'm led to believe from family that the Fleming guy will be signing after we agreed a fee , family said he played well last season after signing for them but can he step up to the Premier league big difference to championship.

Every manager would like to have his full squad in place as early in pre season as possible but we all know that it just doesn't work that way.PensansClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 11:16 amGone very quiet. Do we have to wait till Monday for some news.

I'm differentiating between negotiations that take place in the media and those that are done privately.davideyresleftear wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 6:09 amWe can't answer this because it might have happened dozens of times in the last transfer window alone, for all we know. Take Fleming for example , a clearly media event. If it comes off it will disprove my theory that the quieter the affair the better the chance of signing a player.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He was the third player I referred to which included Vigouroux and O'Shea. I don't know about medicals but the interest in him was definitely real and close enough to him signing for me to get an article ready. Having said that, I've had a lot of those over the years that have never seen the light of day.

They got him on a free last summer didn’t they? Very unlikely a player goes from free transfer to £20m player in one season.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 11:45 amTheir fans keep saying it's going to take £20 million to get the lad.
Let’s face it, his record is good - 9 goals, 12 assists - but far from sensational in a decent side. I think around £10m for a player they bagged for nothing only 12 months ago I’d decent business for them.

Tbf what would you value Zaroury at? Clarke had a better season (output wise) in a worst team at similar age.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 11:48 amThey got him on a free last summer didn’t they? Very unlikely a player goes from free transfer to £20m player in one season.

I think their value is a similar level. I certainly wouldn’t want to lose Zaroury for 9m

I think a lot depends on the circumstances - the buyers finances, other teams interested, contract length, club finances, etc. For example, as a ex PL team benefitting from 2 further years of parachute payments I’d expect us to be in a better position than say Sunderland are now.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 12:04 pmTbf what would you value Zaroury at? You’re right I’d be disappointed to lose Zaroury for £9m, but equally 3x ing your money in one season is decent, but we’re talking the numbers quoted as being £18m - £20m. 5-6x ing your money in one season is unrealistic unless you have several big clubs bidding imo.

I still wouldn’t expect to lose Zaroury for 9m. I think if prem teams come in for young talent the number immediately starts with a 1. It’s the second number that is up for debate.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Given our "smaller" PL budget
Would you want to spend circa £10m on Clarke who is not guaranteed a start in front of Zaroury
Put the £10m towards someone like Tella or Gyokeres who would be starting
We need players through the door who are going to be starting games

Apparently Weghorst has agreed to stay, but only if he’s guaranteed the number 9 shirt and Vincent Kompany’s parking space at Gawthorpe.
