I think it will be one or the other.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:09 pmNow its hard not to get excited by this sort of signing (do wonder what price Man City have on a buy back though)
Low initial fee = low buy back clause.
Big initial fee = either big buy back clause or no buy back clause.

Potentially we could see more sales for £20 million plus as a result

I’ll take that bet. 50p one of them plays five games?

So the reports are up to 19 million for a 20 year old keeper and 13 million for a 19-year-old CB who has played one game for Dortmund's first team.
Wow.

Loaning Coulibaly to be fair. That fee is next summer if we stay up and includes the loan fee this season.forzagranata wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:35 pmSo the reports are up to 19 million for a 20 year old keeper and 13 million for a 19-year-old CB who has played one game for Dortmund's first team.

For this kind of money I’d want some players that will have an impact straight away at PL level. Not convinced either of these will. Not been too excited about any of the linked players other than Lokonga who I think is the type of player we need and Gomez.forzagranata wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:35 pmSo the reports are up to 19 million for a 20 year old keeper and 13 million for a 19-year-old CB who has played one game for Dortmund's first team.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
£19m for Trafford ? What the !!! Its rumoured at £12m plus £7m addons but here is the real kicker its also rumoured there will be a 20% sell on clause and a buy back option for City. I can't really understand why we gave up on Butez after missing out on Verbruggen and what about the Barcelona keeper on a possible free ? Seems a lot of money to me and I would have rather brought in Tella. I can't see how Burnley are going to be able to spend that amount and get Coulibaly, Flemming, Tella, Clarke, Maatsen, Vranks, Lakonga, plus a goal scoring striker etc. Unless that is we are about to sell Brownhill or one of our wingers.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The cautious part of me would rather we spend £8m on Butez, a 28 year old keeper of the year in Belgium, than take this huge and expensive risk on a rookie, but I trust VK and the team believe they can develop Trafford into being worth tens of millions in the future. Same with Coulibaly.
Well, a few of us asked for some movement this week and it looks like we’ve got it. Hope we’ve still got the ranch by Friday!

We've got McNally to help secure Flemming and cash could be raised on Duncan, Peacock-Farrell and Wout
Loaning out Wout is not a good idea when a permanent sale is much preferable.

Calm down. There is nothing to suggest it has to be either Trafford OR Tella. There will obviously be money left for attacking players.LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:41 pm£19m for Trafford ? Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'm not suggesting that I'm just saying I would have seen Tella as more of a priority and money towards our other targets may have been saved by getting a less pricey goalkeeper. I wonder where the potential amounts of money involved to players we are being linked with is coming from ? We are a bit light on the LB position at present so will we get Drameh or Gomes as well as Maatsen or instead stick with Taylor and Vitinho ?Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:49 pmCalm down. Suspect Muric has rubbed up VK-his antics abroad when we got promoted, his unexplained coming off at half time when he was having a mare, some of his gashes. Trafford really excites me-longer term he could become the new Pickford and England No 1
I am certain he goes straight in as our No 1

Or we might be in talks about another player to fill that role if Saints are playing hardball or refusing to talk.
They need to bounce back up and Tella is proven in the championship now

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
For me Tella is the priority. I have a feeling that VK thinks Maatsen would be too exposed in the Prem. I really liked Maatsen, and a fantastic sight pushing forward. He had pace, a sublime telling pass, and great at cutting the ball back. His defending in the Championship was however exposed, and seemed to lack spatial awareness when he needed to challenge aerially, and it was very easy for the opposition wide man to beat him in a one on onedermotdermot wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:09 pmIf we are spending that sort of money, we just have to get Maatsen and Tella. I'm a bit worried about Trafford give how badly Bazanu got on at Southampton. Hopefully Muric stays and there can be some healthy competition between them.

When you consider how ALK bought the club would it be such a surprise if they spent the bulk of the PL money in advance?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
That’s a whopping fee for an under 21, if the figures are correct.
Got to have faith in those making the decisions but there’s always a bit of a nagging doubt with young players yet to prove themselves at the higher levels.
There are plenty who have looked hugely promising who go fail to hit the heights expected.
It really does beg the question, how much are we going to spend when GK was probably one of the positions seen by most of us as a lower priority.
I’d have happily given Muric his chance and brought in a decent older pro as back up (very Dyche, I know).

Not sure about this one at all, especially for that money. I believe he did well at Bolton, but that's League One. It's a big jump from there to the Prem., especially when Muric seemed to be really finding his feet towards the end of the season. Big gamble, but hope it pays off. Now let's focus on the positions we really need bodies!

We've really got to trust VK here, guys, I think.
Do you remember when we were linked with Verbuggen last season and there were countless posts on here along the lines of "we shouldn't be paying £6m for a 19 year old keeper who's played a handful of games for Anderlect".
Well look at him now, going for £16m to Brighton.
VK knows what he's doing.

This is where the risk is ramped up significantly. It doesn’t take many transfers that don’t work out and a season that ends in relegation to be in real bother.

Surely better for the lad to get a deal over the line than have him worry about getting injured and potentially scuppering a prem move

Whilst I agree, conversely if we are looking for investors it's surely advantageous to be showing confidence and ambition. Add that to having total faith in our manager and his coaches. The future looks bright and very exciting.

Could say the same about Ramsdale when Arsenal bought him. Appeared to be no other club chasing him-look at him now . He is one of the Prems best keepers. A few on here seem surprised, claiming Trafford has not played much competitive football in the higher leagues. Getting in to the England U-21's is some achievement if you look at the quality of players they have. I am sure they would give the England national team a good game. He could become some player, and where better to start strengthening than in the spine of your team. Now lets move to CM.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:20 pmGobsmacked that nobody else seems to be in for him.

I've heard whispers a couple of days ago of some money coming from (or a loan) China - very clearly proper pinch of salt stuff at this stage BUT if we spend 100 million then we take into account the wages etc etc the money will be coming from somewhere for sure
