Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We can wish for Tella and Maatsen but if their clubs are asking for too much or the players aren’t convinced by joining us, then we should move on. Pursuing one or two players for the whole window is how you end up making panic signings on the last day. I much prefer the ‘that’s too much, move on’ approach. It’s just that right now, we haven’t actually accomplished the ‘moving on’ with Maatsen.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'm pretty sure that our record without THB was better than it was with him last season, not that I'm saying I wouldn't have him back if we get the chance.
We seem to be linked with quite a lot of midfielders and full backs and it's just a matter of time until we sign a couple of these - but ON OUR OWN terms.
Hamer is an obvious one. if Coventry don't sell him before the midnight deadline when the window closes then he can effectively walk away for nothing in January - at which point he can make a pre-contractural agreement. I doubt Coventry will allow this to happen.
There will be lots of deals going through in the last couple of days of the window. We don't have to do all our deals now simply by paying whatever inflated prices teams stipulate.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Not wanting to be adversarial, but doesn't being "incredibly short" depend on the formation being played. I think VK may have a new formation in mind, possibly the Danubian (2-3-5) or the 1-6-3 adopted by Japanese in the 1936 Olympics - our current recruitment would support either of these formations and would allow us to beat Man City in the opening game by at least 3 goals.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 10:20 amWe currently do not have a first team left back and we need at least 2 CMs.
So I would say we are incredibly short.

I'd agree with that, we've already got more than enough in the squad to see off Citehclaretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 10:27 am.. I don't expect any signing to be the difference between us winning or losing to Man City...

Ah but Daramby might not be one of our priority targets , but just a decoy , who knows if we are even the slightest bit interested in him ?

I was away this weekend and missed the report that a deal Daramy joining us would have a 'difficult structure due to financial fair play'. I assume this refers to us spending an absolute fortune this summer?

We haven’t really, plus we had a few years of not spending muchArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:12 pmI was away this weekend and missed the report that a deal Daramy joining us would have a 'difficult structure due to financial fair play'. Some of the deals are loans to buy next year so they don’t impact ffp this year
That and transfer fee payments are generally spread out over the duration of the players first contract, which means we aren’t paying out a lot this summer

For example Tony Mowbray said recently we weren’t interested in signing Clarke ,we were just testing the market. It gets to the point that we really don’t know anything, with the approach we take to transfers, until a signing is announced.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:09 pmAh but Daramby might not be one of our priority targets , but just a decoy , who knows if we are even the slightest bit interested in him ?

You make a good point. Sorry should have elaborated - I think FFP is calculated over a period of several years rather than one year. So I feel as though this summer we've committed to paying a fair bit of money over the next few years. There would have to be a limit at some point without selling - something I never thought I'd be saying as a Burnley fanGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:15 pmWe haven’t really, plus we had a few years of not spending much

Romano may have been referring to another problem with FFP but I can't think of what else it could be?

Then we will have another one who will create and another one who will score. Indeed, I was at SoL yesterday and he was for the most part useless on the day and I have been a fan of him previously. Maybe he wasn't interested because he thinks he is on his way?Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:18 pmI hope we don't waste money on Clarke imo there's better abroad for less money. He was poor v Ipswich and not what we need

My understanding is it is based on committed outlay (so delayed payments through a loan to buy wouldn’t affect it?)ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:20 pmYou make a good point. Lmao Blades will be in meltdown if we sign Berge
For that reason alone* then get it done.
* or the fact he’s actually decent and massive - much needed in the middle of the park.

Makes sense. But Romano indicated it's a permanent deal for Daramy, contrary to the report from The Athletic. Who knows which is right.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:27 pmMy understanding is it is based on committed outlay (so delayed payments through a loan to buy wouldn’t affect it?)

But I'm just generally wondering whether the report re: FFP is referring to us committing to spending a lot over the next few years and whether it's something we need to be keeping an eye on. Or whether Fabrizio Romano was referring to something else, e.g. a problem with Ajax's FFP.

Think Berge would be a good signing. And a real statement of intent to take one of Sheff Utd's key players.

Mike McGrath as well
“Burnley have held discussions with Sheffield United over a deal for Norway midfielder Sander Berge. The 25yr-old has one year left on contract and there has been interest in previous windows without a deal progressing”

Out of contract in a year so just like N’Diaye, they’re over a barrel because they’re brassic. Could be a relatively cheap deal in the offing when you consider they only got £13m for N’Diaye…

Not really bothered about the Troyes lad or Daramy. Get Berge in!

12m plus a swop should seal the deal for Sander. A Dewalt, Makita ,Milwauki or Bosch heads over the Pennines with the cash to pacify the tykes.

As was said in the recent transfer podcast on us , I think it was Romano said that we feed agents with none stories to detract from our real targets.
So much is fantasy , distraction and decoy, none of us and them know the real truth, even the people on here itk that said we were signing Tella.

This would be the only worry I'd have thought. Wages. It was widely reported he didn't have a relegation clause when Sheff U went down last time I think and I'd be furious if we didn't include as standard.
Good player though - the only question is why given his calibre he's spent 3 years of his career either getting relegated or playing in the second tier. He certainly now needs to kick on.

Burnley are making a dramatic move for Sheffield United’s Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge.
Vincent Kompany’s club are ready to pay around £12 million for Berge who is in the last year of his deal with the Blades.
Berge is looking for a major pay rise from his terms at Bramall Lane and Burnley may come up with the cash for that side too.
It will be a second major loss for United after Illiman Ndiaye left for Marseille in a deal worth £16 million plus extras.
Burnley have been trying to sign reinforcements for their Premier League return and Berge would be ideal.
United want Berge to extend his stay but have not come up with a contract that works.
